Little Crusty — The Innkeeper

Little Crusty is a fully mature Galactic Sovereign Turtle, Dao Lord, part-time gardener, and one of Eclipse's oldest friends. His quiet fascination with plants contrasts with the terror he inspires in most other Dao Lords, making him one of the tea party's most powerful participants despite his near-total lack of interest in its politics.

Biography

Eclipse's oldest gardener

Eclipse saves Crusty's entrance for a dramatic reveal at the Primordial Garden tea party. His arrival immediately stills almost every powerful guest, while he ignores status and begins smelling the Innkeeper because he senses other Sovereigns around him. Once satisfied, Crusty turns his attention to the unique flowers collected for the event. That choice defines his conduct: other Dao Lords probe alliances and secrets, but the gardener uses unprecedented access to study life. (Chapters 2048–2056)

Choosing the garden over the meeting

Crusty remains close enough that his seriousness changes the meeting's tone, yet repeatedly withdraws from negotiations to inspect the garden. When the formal gathering ends, he simply walks out and refuses to leave, mumbling about mushrooms rather than seeking permission. His friendship with Eclipse and status as a gardener make the Primordial Garden a natural destination, while his disregard for protocol demonstrates that no ordinary host could force his departure. Appearance and personality

Crusty appears as a normally sized mature turtle only because the Primordial Garden compresses him; the gravity radiating from his body suggests an original scale larger than a sun.
