Kaemon

Kaemon is an Earth-Immortal Magma Lion and commander in the Reaving Dread mercenary organization. After years of attrition in Abaddon, he becomes the principal guide and field partner for the Midnight Inn's reinforcements, leading them through the realm's hazards and paying a devastating personal cost when the Condottiere uses his body to complete the mission.

Biography

Seven years of attrition in Abaddon

Kaemon meets the Midnight Inn force after seven years of watching successive reinforcements die in Abaddon. Physical exhaustion, mental strain, and the realm's refusal to obey reliable rules leave him suspicious even of rescue; when the Inn's castle appears, he is too stunned to reassure his own soldiers before collapsing. Once recovery proves the newcomers real, responsibility overcomes caution. He explains the locusts, soul feasts, ruins, opportunities, and the Condottiere's restrictions so that Lex Williams can make informed choices rather than repeat the losses of earlier allies. Lex's group changes Kaemon's expectations of what reinforcements can accomplish. He accepts Lex's proposal to seek resources while pursuing the chalice, advises against threats that could include Heaven or Celestial Immortals, and coordinates the Reaving Dread with Luthor, Z, Fenrir, and the other Inn forces. The alliance is not blind trust: Kaemon continues weighing orders from the Condottiere against immediate survival, but repeated competence lets him treat the newcomers as partners rather than expendable replacements. Command against the Gon and the chalice mission

When the Gon force threatens the expedition, Kaemon takes operational command. He orders the castle positioned for defense, leads the charge, activates a dome that suppresses the enemies' realms, and spreads a Reaving Dread aura that lets the mercenaries fight above their normal level. He also preserves retreat contingencies and prepares the castle for the fallout of mass self-destruction, showing that his courage is grounded in responsibility for subordinates rather than a desire for spectacle. The chalice mission pushes that responsibility beyond his own limits. After visions burden his soul, Kaemon's aura takes on signs of Dao power and he becomes the focus of invisible attackers. The later revelation explains the impossible state: the Condottiere temporarily inhabited Kaemon's body, a feat that would have killed another host. Kaemon survives because he is a biological clone made from the Condottiere's pre-Dao DNA, yet remains a separate person with his own soul and will. The possession completes the mission but leaves spirit, body, and soul so depleted that even special lava and the Condottiere's aid cannot prevent a long recovery. (Chapters 1735–1744 and 1776)

Appearance and personality

Kaemon is a Magma Lion who normally appears in his leonine form. His physiology is comfortable in the Inn's lava hot tub, where heat helps release tension and supports healing rather than harming him. The text emphasizes exhaustion more than ornamental detail during his introduction: he arrives barely conscious after prolonged battle and only gradually regains the alert bearing expected of a commander. He is cautious, candid, loyal, and tactically responsible. Years in Abaddon teach him to distrust apparently easy gains and to prepare for the realm to violate prior patterns. Kaemon can defer to stronger judgment without surrendering command, and he is willing to gamble his own vitality when his soldiers need protection. Abilities and cultivation

Earth-Immortal cultivation and Fire Intent

Kaemon enters the narrative as an Earth Immortal. His Fire Intent has reached the fourth level of transformation, explicitly above average for his realm, giving him a mature foundation for controlling fire-aligned power. The narrative does not supply his numbered Earth-Immortal level or earlier advancement history, and his later Dao-like aura belongs to temporary possession rather than a breakthrough of his own. Reaving Dread command abilities

As a commander supported by the Reaving Dread system, Kaemon has access to formations, joint quests, emergency weapons, communication rituals, and battlefield effects supplied through his organization and the Condottiere. Against the Gon he deploys a spiked, chained dome that forces down enemy realms and then grants allied mercenaries the Reaving Dread aura needed to fight above their level. These advantages depend on preparation, accumulated energy, and external support; exhaustion, disrupted communication, or the dome's failure can expose the force to enemies whose true Heaven-Immortal strength remains overwhelming. Condottiere possession

The Condottiere can inhabit Kaemon's body and channel power carrying signs of Dao aura. Kaemon does not control or permanently retain that power, and the process nearly erases his spirit while placing extreme strain on body and soul. His biological relationship to the Condottiere makes survival possible, but the two are not one identity: Kaemon has an independent personality and soul, and the possession's aftermath establishes its danger rather than elevating his normal formal realm.
