Harry Midnight is the Midnight Inn's barber and the reviver of the forgotten path of Glamor Sorcery. A teenage orphan who builds a livelihood through skill and relentless initiative, he turns grooming into a soul-affecting art, survives the destruction of his body and most of his soul, and eventually leaves the Inn to act against the enemies threatening Lex.

Biography

From Harlem barber to Glamor Sorcerer

Harry meets Lex while hustling for clients after a small acting job, offering a free haircut because he sees how much the wrong style changes Lex's face. Having run away from foster care at fifteen, he supports himself from a Harlem apartment by cutting hair for neighbors and cultivating connections. The prospect of the Inn frightens him less than the possibility of missing an opportunity, so he accepts a practical test, restyles Velma despite limited experience with women's hair, and earns a permanent position. The Glamor Sorcerer heritage turns that professional instinct into a supernatural calling. Harry's tools move by themselves, his incantations reorganize thoughts, and a haircut can cut away anxiety or nurture a client's soul. He initially performs these effects without fully understanding them and exhausts himself against powerful targets, but he keeps practicing because service itself strengthens his soul-based path. During the Raskal invasion he stops enemies by damaging their souls, proving that the same craft used to comfort guests can defend the Inn when ordinary physical attacks are insufficient. Near-death, recovery, and a wider responsibility

Harry's wedding to Hailey ends in disaster when an immortal attacker smashes him hard enough to destroy his body and scatter his soul. His sorcery tools preserve fragments, allowing the Inn to reconstruct his body and medicine to regrow the soul, but recovery is neither immediate nor complete: the cultivation lies dormant, his new body's vitality remains critically damaged after he wakes, and others must support him while he rebuilds. Once recovered, he adopts the surname Midnight, turning survival and belonging into a deliberate new identity. (Chapters 407–449 and 619)

The experience deepens his work rather than narrowing it. Harry develops the Soul Pond to sustain damaged souls and support soul cultivation, reaches level 6, and applies his precision to Moon's unusual condition. His growing immortal clientele then accelerates his advancement faster than he wants because Glamor Sorcery grows through work on souls. When news arrives that Lex is fighting an Agent of Chaos, Harry acknowledges that he cannot defeat Lex's opponent, yet takes indefinite leave to harass weaker agents. Appearance and personality

Harry is introduced as a presentable teenager in worn clothing, later favoring the polished grooming expected of the Inn's barber. He pays close attention to faces, hair, clothing, and the effect of appearance on confidence. His work changes as he matures, but aesthetics remain essential rather than decorative because Glamor Sorcery uses beauty and presentation as part of its engagement with the soul. He is enterprising, focused, warm, and stubbornly self-reliant. Early poverty teaches him to treat every encounter as a possible connection, while the Inn gives that hustle room to become craftsmanship and loyalty. Harry does not mistake courage for invulnerability—he plainly admits that he cannot save Lex alone—but he refuses comfort when doing nothing would betray the person who changed his life. Abilities and cultivation

Glamor Sorcery

Glamor Sorcery strengthens the soul directly and channels its effects through incantations and external tools, unlike ordinary cultivation, which first strengthens the cultivator and only indirectly elevates the soul. Harry receives the heritage from the Inn and grows through repeated use, mini-quests, and working on clients' souls. By Chapter 1131 he is a level 6 Glamor Sorcerer; later work on immortal guests causes rapid further growth, but no higher numbered level is confirmed. (Chapters 79–84, 97, 286, 1131, 1509, and 1790)

Grooming, soul care, and the Soul Pond

Harry's grooming tools can float independently while incantations affect the client beneath the physical styling. Demonstrated results include organizing chaotic thoughts, cutting away anxiety, relaxing accumulated stress, nourishing or augmenting a soul, and changing the client's physical presentation as an indirect reflection of the deeper work. The Soul Pond extends that practice beyond appointments by sustaining damaged souls and supporting soul treasures and cultivation methods, though its direct healing is described as minimal rather than miraculous. Offensive sorcery and survival through tools

Harry can reverse his therapeutic focus and burn or injure enemy souls. Against low-level Raskals even mild soul damage leaves targets physically intact but nearly unable to move; against a Nascent-soul opponent, his attack slows the enemy but exhausts Harry before it can secure victory. His tools also preserve fragments of his own soul when his body is destroyed, making recovery possible, but they do not prevent dormancy, bodily reconstruction, or the need for rare medicine. • Lex Williams: Lex discovers Harry's talent, hires him, and gives him the heritage that changes his life. Harry later leaves safety because loyalty will not let him ignore Lex's enemies.
• Hailey: Hailey becomes Harry's wife and remains beside him through the attack and long recovery that follow their wedding.
• John: John values Harry's rare soul expertise, protects him after the wedding attack, and later relies on the Soul Pond while healing from system removal.
• Moon: Harry is summoned to strengthen and stabilize Moon's soul during her unusual fusion.
