Geeves
Geeves is the dedicated worker who arrives with the Midnight Tailor and turns the shop into the Inn's center for law-bearing, defensive, and ceremonial clothing. His garments combine meticulous fit with functional cultivation effects, and his insistence on treating every commission as a complete craft makes him trusted by clients from mortals through Celestial-level guests.
Biography
Building the Midnight Tailor
Geeves begins as a relatively young tailor attached directly to the newly established shop. Lex gives him an extraordinary budget and freedom to design outfits for the Inn's workers, allowing him to choose materials and techniques rather than merely execute specifications. He works himself to collapse preparing the first major order, but the resulting suits impress Lex enough to commission personal defensive and stealth variants. This early success defines both Geeves's creative independence and the physical cost of trying to satisfy it without compromise. (Chapters 629–646)
From uniforms to high-prestige commissions
Geeves's defensive philosophy is to frustrate an attacker before they can harm the wearer, an idea Lex repeatedly validates in combat. As his skill and the Inn's clientele grow, he outfits dates, expeditions, ceremonies, and weddings while adapting materials to each wearer. By the time Lex returns for another fitting, ordinary tailors handle routine customers and Geeves reserves himself for Prestige level four or higher, including Celestial guests. He later prepares Liz and Levi for an urgent mission and maintains the same professional confidence even under impossible deadlines. (Chapters 646, 780, 900, 1064–1065, 1425, 2026, 2142, and 2198–2199)
Appearance and personality
Geeves is introduced as a relatively young, light-skinned man. Work quickly leaves him exhausted enough to collapse or sleep in the shop, but being startled awake reveals fists raised as if he expects an ambush rather than passivity. He is exacting, proud, and argumentative about measurements because he sees every garment as the pinnacle of his present ability. His grumbling about sentient suits owing him payment and his dream of making enemies cough blood from frustration give that perfectionism a dryly comic edge. (Chapters 629, 638, 642, 1065, and 2026)
Abilities and cultivation
Enchanted tailoring
Geeves designs clothes whose materials, fit, and embedded effects work together as cultivation equipment. A general suit can provide broad protection, while specialized versions use resources such as Orion scales for stealth. Later outfits carry augmentative benefits beyond ordinary clothing, and a wedding dress made from extremely light, expensive material can endure a full Heaven Immortal strike without damage. These results remain constrained by Geeves's current cultivation, the wearer's ability to bear weight or restriction, the available material, budget, and production time. (Chapters 646, 1425, 2026, and 2142)
Defensive design
Geeves's signature design goal is layered denial: an enemy should struggle to breach the suit and then discover that the wearer remains unharmed. Lex's repeated survival and ability to ignore attacks validate the approach, though the suit does not replace the wearer's own defense or guarantee safety against every higher-level attack. Geeves tailors protection to the commission rather than producing a single universal garment, which is why measurements and intended use matter to him so strongly. (Chapters 646, 780, 900, and 2334)
Law knowledge and craft growth
Geeves can discuss Foundational and Relational laws in a way that helps Lex formulate his own understanding, showing that his tailoring includes conceptual law work as well as fabric construction. His continuing advancement brings increasingly prestigious clients, but he explicitly says his cultivation realm limits what he can currently make. The narrative does not state that realm, so his demonstrated products—not an inferred stage—define the latest extent of his craft. (Chapters 1680 and 2026)
Relationships
- Lex Williams: Lex is Geeves's employer, recurring client, and the wearer who most visibly tests his defensive design philosophy.
- Gerard: Geeves outfits Gerard for his first date with Lilith and later continues serving the Inn's senior workers.
- Liz: Liz is a repeat client who trusts Geeves with mission clothing under urgent conditions.
- Lilith: Lilith does not commission Geeves directly in the cited scenes, but her first date with Gerard prompts one of his notable formal fittings.
Items
Geeves has no finalized notable-item inventory. The many suits and dresses he creates are products of his craft, but none is assigned a finalized item article associated with him.
