Prince Nathan
Prince Nathan is an old Immortal Shadow Dragon of Gathuzan who befriends the Darklight Host during a Crocolisk crisis and temporarily shelters in Karl's Tiny World. Earlier chapters contain an unrelated church subordinate named Nathan, the businessman Nathan Roth, and a portal mage named Nathan; none is identified as this Gathuzan prince.
Biography
An assassination turns casual curiosity into alliance
Nathan meets Remi while she is treating a wounded companion and is amused rather than offended by her blunt experimental method. He introduces himself as a Gathuzan prince, praises the potion, and joins the group dealing with the regional Crocolisk threat. The visit begins as a chance encounter between an old Immortal and an unusual alchemist, not a formal diplomatic mission, which makes the sudden assassination attempt against him especially revealing. (Chapters 1438–1439)
An attacker using movement similar to [Shadow Step] cuts through Karl's barrier and Nathan's Mythic fur cloak before Nathan can react. Rae intercepts and drives the assassin away, while Nathan activates a device that adds two barriers. The attack forces him to accept that his rank and experience do not make him untouchable; it also gives Karl's group a personal reason to protect him while they investigate and defend the surrounding settlements. (Chapter 1439)
Shared defense makes the Tiny World a temporary refuge
Nathan remains with the Darklight Host through the Crocolisk fighting, helps assess the city curfew, and recognizes that even an old Immortal needs an escape method when a stronger foe presses too hard. His observations of the team's nature clerics and shop reveal a prince adapting to unfamiliar customs rather than demanding royal privilege. He questions dangerous customers and marvels at the commercial value of Rae's clothing, but accepts Karl's rule that the guild will serve buyers whom local prejudice excludes. (Chapters 1456 and 1462–1463)
When Karl closes the Tiny World during advancement, Nathan and other Gathuzan visitors become stranded inside. He accepts Supreme Lady Matilda's later offer to send them home, speaks for those who had come only to hunt monsters, and leaves without trying to claim continued access to the resource-rich space. His latest sourced state is an active Immortal returned to Gathuzan; the corpus does not show his subsequent political position or a higher advancement. (Chapters 1463–1481)
Appearance and personality
Nathan is a Shadow Dragon and can exhale a huff of black mist. In humanoid presentation he wears a Mythic-ranked fur cloak, but the corpus does not give his height, hair, eyes, or detailed draconic colors. The cloak's damage during the assassination is a measure of the attacker's equipment, not evidence that Nathan himself is only Mythic. (Chapters 1439 and 1456)
He is sociable, amused by eccentricity, cautious about groups he considers dangerous, and experienced enough to admit that retreat is part of survival. Nathan can be snobbish about cultists and respectable shops, yet he listens when Karl rejects those assumptions and continues working with the guild. His jokes with Lotus and interest in Rae's business show a less formal side than his title suggests. (Chapters 1438, 1456, and 1462–1463)
Abilities and class
Nathan is explicitly an old Immortal and a Shadow Dragon, but the corpus does not name his System class, advancement origin, or exact age. He considers himself a capable combatant and participates in the response to the Crocolisk invasion; nevertheless, a peak-Mythic assassin with Immortal equipment moves too quickly for him to counter unaided. Rank therefore supplies resilience and experience, not automatic protection against specialized surprise attacks. (Chapters 1439 and 1456)
His draconic nature includes black-mist breath or exhalation, though the scene does not demonstrate its offensive mechanics. Nathan can also sense and reason about magical conditions well enough to follow the group's battle and recognize persistent curfew effects, but no named innate attack, portal, or healing spell is assigned to him. (Chapters 1456 and 1463)
During the assassination he activates a magical device that produces two additional barriers. Those defenses are item-derived, and their strength, duration, and reuse limit are not stated. His latest demonstrated mastery is consequently an experienced Immortal Shadow Dragon with unspecified combat magic and emergency equipment, not a fully documented specialist class. (Chapter 1439)
Relationships
- Remi: Remi's treatment of Nathan's companion opens their acquaintance. He respects her alchemy even while recognizing that her testing methods can be overwhelming. (Chapters 1438–1439)
- Rae: Rae intercepts the assassin who nearly kills Nathan. Her intervention establishes a direct life debt, even though she is angrier about the attacker's escape than interested in his gratitude. (Chapter 1439)
- Karl and Dana: Their group protects Nathan, fights beside him, and shelters him in the Tiny World until Matilda can arrange his return. (Chapters 1439–1481)
- Lotus: Nathan trades teasing remarks with Lotus and observes her high-energy priestly behavior closely enough to recognize its rhythm during the crisis. (Chapters 1456 and 1463)
Items
Nathan has no standalone item in the scoped catalog. His Mythic-ranked fur cloak is cut during the assassination, and an unnamed magical device adds two barriers around him; neither receives a complete mechanical description or persistent item article. (Chapter 1439)
