Cohilia

Cohilia is a sentient, multicolored living devourer and one of the Outworldly's five sacred items. Cohilia seeks its former master, recognizes Gustav as that person, and eventually remains embedded in his left palm as a living partner whose power he can access.

History

Imprisonment and recognition

Cohilia is first referenced as a power sealed within Gustav, but its identity and motive become clear when he reaches the final floor of an MBO-controlled dungeon. Long before that encounter, Cohilia had crossed planets and devoured beings, worlds, and solar systems while searching for someone. Jack defeats and confines Cohilia on Earth, using the prison both to contain the danger and to reveal the sought person if that person ever reaches it. (Chapters 659, 868)

During the final-floor confrontation, Cohilia attempts to devour Gustav's existence. A deeper Outworldly force reverses the encounter, and Cohilia recognizes him as “master” before becoming sealed within him. Gustav can see the rhombus-like presence inside his hand but initially cannot sense Cohilia's consciousness or use the devouring ability. His role is therefore host and former master, not owner of a captive person. (Chapters 868–870)

Reawakened access and restoration

As Gustav grows stronger, the seal loosens. By chapter 1363 the mark in his left palm is active and he can draw on Cohilia without the earlier bodily toll. Chapter 1527 explicitly describes Cohilia as a living devourer embedded in his palm, one of four sacred treasures then accessible to him. This continued residence is a partnership and power reunion rather than ordinary inventory custody. (Chapters 1363, 1527)

Dimension Six later gives the clearest enumeration: Cohilia is one of five artifacts the Outworldly created before becoming mortal, alongside the Armor, Boots, Ancient Hourglass, and Sword. Cohilia can swallow matter, energy, and even concepts of existence. The five are connected in Gustav's restoration ritual by chapter 1643, but the corpus does not separately describe Cohilia's condition after the ritual. (Chapters 1595, 1643)

One line in chapter 1363 says “four sacred items acquired” and “three more to go,” implying seven items. This conflicts with chapter 1527's “four out of five” and chapter 1595's explicit five-item list. The later direct enumeration is used here, while the earlier count remains an unresolved textual inconsistency.

Abilities and properties

• Devours living beings, matter, energy, planets, solar systems, and—at its later defined scope—concepts of existence. (Chapters 868, 1595)
• Can interfere with powers and awareness that normally resist outside effects; even the System loses perception during Cohilia's first confrontation with Gustav. (Chapters 869–870)
• Exists as a sentient multicolored rhombus-like being and later as an embedded living presence in Gustav's palm. (Chapters 868, 1527, 1595)
• Access depends on Gustav's strength: Cohilia is initially sealed and unusable, then becomes available without a noticeable bodily toll as he advances. (Chapters 870, 1363)
• Belongs to the five-part Outworldly restoration sequence; the ritual requires the sacred items and recovered vestiges in the prescribed order. (Chapters 1595, 1643)

Ownership and custody
