Rick
Rick is a mercenary co-captain and planner whose face contains a portal to the irreversible VI realm.
Biography
Planning a contract he distrusts
Rick warns his captain that the Genxodus contract on Gustav Oslov carries too much risk, but the promised payment could sustain the crew for fifty years. Pressured as the master planner, he designs the operation and tries to minimize collateral damage, offering Gustav's companions survival if they surrender the target. (Chapters 1145–1150)
Captured after the VI-realm attack
Rick removes his scarf and uses the realm embedded in his face to draw victims into a space from which he says nobody can return. After Gustav defeats and captures him, Rick explains the contract and the realm's altered atomic scale and time. Miss Aimee nearly kills him; Gustav intervenes only to siphon his memories first, leaving Rick with no confirmed survival afterward. (Chapters 1151–1154)
Appearance and personality
Rick conceals part of his face with a scarf because direct sight of the hidden region triggers its effect. He is cautious, analytical, and less eager for collateral deaths than his captain, but ultimately accepts lucrative work despite correctly recognizing the danger and moral cost. (Chapters 1145–1154)
Bloodlines and abilities
The uncovered portion of Rick's face opens into the VI realm, automatically pulling in people who look at it. Inside, matter and time shrink, making outside time pass at a different rate; Rick states that victims cannot return. The scarf is therefore an essential safety restraint as well as concealment. (Chapters 1151–1154)
