Principal Erwin leads Echelon Academy and recruits the academically gifted Gustav for an interschool exchange despite the academy's prior neglect of him.

Biography

Bargaining for Gustav's representation

Erwin realizes that his mixedblood delegation lacks strong academic representatives and calls Gustav Oslov, publicly treated as school trash, to ask for help. Gustav refuses because the academy never protected him, forcing Erwin to beg, offer concessions, and invoke Miss Aimee's deal. The eventual agreement secures Echelon's best mind but also makes Erwin confront the cost of relying on a student the institution alienated. (Chapters 86–99)

Prestige through the “secret weapon”

Gustav's answers reverse Echelon's poor position and surprise the other principals. Erwin quickly presents him as a deliberately withheld secret weapon, converting an expensive negotiation into institutional prestige. He later supports the exchange's harsh battlefield standard, showing that his pride in Echelon and competitive results remains stronger than any broader reassessment of the school's culture. Appearance and personality

Erwin is a bald man and senior school administrator. He is pragmatic, prestige-conscious, and willing to humble himself when Echelon's reputation depends on Gustav. Once the strategy succeeds, he readily reshapes the story to make the academy look prepared, mixing genuine recognition of Gustav's brilliance with institutional opportunism. (Chapters 86–103)

Erwin can amplify his voice many times through his bloodline, letting him address a large venue or summon students over the crowd. No combat application or formal rank is established.
