Officer Cole
Officer Cole is an MBO camp instructor who evaluates cadets' maximum attacks, speed, and practical problem-solving. He is distinct from the much later courtroom lawyer Jareth Cole.
Biography
Measuring the cadets' limits
Officer Cole initially doubts that the cadets can overcome the training target he presents, then revises the exercise when Elevora demonstrates the special class's oppressive power. Rather than preserve an easy benchmark, he raises the task's difficulty and leaves the facility available for voluntary practice. His response establishes him as an exacting instructor who changes the standard when evidence shows that exceptional cadets have outgrown it. (Chapters 376–377)
Evaluating speed and ingenuity
Cole later supervises movement trials in which Gustav Oslov reaches speeds that astonish the officers and accelerates over repeated laps. During another segment, Gustav uses the Sacred Jewel and an exchange trick to secure Officer Mag's device before Cole can intervene. Cole recognizes both the clever method and its likely restriction, reinforcing his role as a technically observant evaluator rather than a combat antagonist. (Chapters 824–825 and 857)
Appearance and personality
The corpus identifies Cole primarily through his MBO officer role and does not give him a sustained distinctive physical description. He is skeptical without being rigid, willing to reconsider a conclusion after Elevora's demonstration, and attentive enough to infer how Gustav's exchange tactic works. Surprise at elite cadet performance repeatedly becomes revised instruction rather than resentment. (Chapters 376–377, 824–825, and 857)
Bloodlines and abilities
No personal bloodline or formal rank is established for Officer Cole in the retained corpus. His demonstrated strengths are professional: organizing large-group attack tests, timing extreme-speed runs, sensing oppressive energy, and analyzing unusual ability interactions. Because the training devices do much of the measurement, their capabilities should not be attributed to Cole himself. (Chapters 376–377 and 824–825)
Relationships
- Gustav Oslov: Cole repeatedly evaluates Gustav's extraordinary speed and tactical use of abilities.
- Elevora: Elevora's attack forces Cole to revise his assumptions about the special-class cadets.
- Officer Mag: Cole helps supervise a practical trial involving Mag and tries to intervene when Gustav springs his exchange tactic.
Items
- Sacred Jewel: Cole witnesses Gustav use the jewel during a practical evaluation; it is not Cole's property.
