Luther Black

Luther Black is a Monolith commander whose perceptiveness is undermined by the greed intensified through his demonic contract.

Biography

The false recruit and the coveted mask

Luther notices that the supposed recruit before him has the wrong frame and that the surrounding soldiers move as if drugged, correctly deducing that Ren Dover has infiltrated his unit. Rather than sound an immediate alarm, he guides Ren deeper into headquarters because he wants Ren's face-changing mask for himself. Ren anticipates that choice, traps him in toxic gas, and kills him after a close struggle, then strips useful Monolith supplies from the commander's dimensional storage. (Chapters 265–273)

Appearance and personality

Luther is tall and muscular, with a black moustache, sunglasses, and an oppressive aura; a massive burn scar later covers half his face. He is observant and calculating enough to detect Ren's disguise, yet possessive and avaricious enough to conceal the danger from his own organization. (Chapters 265–270)

Powers and abilities

At B- rank, Luther possesses formidable physical force and combat pressure. His sharp visual analysis lets him infer an infiltrator's identity from body proportions and the behavior of nearby troops. His demonic contract, however, magnifies his greed, creating the exploitable fixation that leads him into Ren's prepared gas trap. (Chapters 266–273)

  • Ren Dover: Infiltrator, trap-setter, and killer; each recognizes the other's deception. (Chapters 266–273)
  • Xavier Pearce: A superior Monolith officer connected to Luther's mission. (Chapters 265–266)
  • Matthew: One of the recruits operating under Luther's command structure. (Chapters 265–268)
