Matthew
Matthew is Ren's childhood friend turned demonic contractor. The Matthew in the alternate world is a reconstruction of the same dead youth, not Thomas the black-market contact or Thomas D. Shurle.
Biography
Friendship, corruption, and a final guide
Manipulated into believing his father caused his mother's suicide, Matthew signs a demon contract, kills his father, curses Ren's parents, and blackmails the one friend who once supported him. Everblood draws him into the Monolith, where survival hardens him into a D+ saber fighter. Ren kills him in their final duel, and Matthew's returning sanity exposes the demon's original deception. A later constructed-world Matthew fulfills Kevin's request by guiding Ren toward the condemned grandmasters and accepting that his temporary world must end. (Chapters 81–88, 187–190, 235–275, 731–753)
Appearance and personality
Matthew has black hair and, after his contract, an elegant and refined exterior that hides predatory intent. His final moments reveal the frightened, remorseful youth beneath the contract's emotional suppression; the reconstruction is relaxed, amused, cryptic, and melancholy. (Chapters 85–88, 235, 274–275, 731–753)
Powers and abilities
Matthew has A-rank talent and reaches D+ through Monolith combat. He channels yellow mana through a saber, releases concentrated ranged force, and sustains aggressive pressure, but the style drains stamina rapidly. His demonic contract increases power while suppressing empathy and autonomy. (Chapters 188, 235, 274–275)
