Reeve

Reeve is one of the six leaders of Skyfall's covert Shadow Unit, later reorganized as the Shadow Legion. Stronger than his more visible colleague Keeve, he remains deliberately obscure because his original responsibility is the king's personal protection.

Biography

Guarding the ruler through a succession crisis

Reeve first appears when Kelton asks him to search for the missing Amaya. Although Reeve owes Kelton a favor, he refuses: Prince Lovis has been murdered, the succession is unstable, and his narrow duty is the king's security rather than general investigation. That prioritization is institutional rather than personal hostility toward Amaya, but it leaves Kelton to pursue her trail alone. As the royal crisis deepens, Reeve reports the Shadow Unit's search to Astaria, helps restrain Ricardus after his crimes are exposed, and responds when enemy King-stage cultivators attack the capital. His loyalty is to the protective office surrounding the throne, even as the person occupying that throne changes. (Chapters 445, 454, 495–513)

When Evane assumes authority, Reeve initially resists her request to reveal the entire Shadow Unit. He explains that even a ruler may request the Unit's help but cannot simply inspect its secret membership. Evane invokes Astaria's higher authority, and Reeve yields without open defiance. He then quiets subordinates who disparage the new queen, arguing that Astaria chose her willingly and must have seen qualities they do not yet understand. During Evane's purge of foreign spies, Reeve leads a staged raid at the Hogarth estate. His group deliberately spends enough time arguing and offering rewards for the identified spy to kill herself rather than be captured, then performs indignation at the failed arrest to fuel the gossip Evane's strategy needs. The operation shows both his discipline in maintaining a cover and the harsh methods he accepts on royal orders. (Chapters 516–526, 542, 555)

Defeat, renewed discipline, and the Shadow Legion

Reeve and the Shadow Unit are unable to detect or stop Nux when he tests them, and their hidden strength proves irrelevant against his concealment and speed. Reeve is knocked unconscious with the other leaders. Ashamed, he agrees with Keeve that the Unit had become complacent; Astaria redirects that humiliation into training rather than self-pity, and Reeve returns to Evane's service determined to improve. He later helps Keeve carry the disoriented Ricardus away from a confrontation at Astaria's signal, again placing stable command above the former king's immediate wishes. (Chapters 529–542, 793–795)

By his final operation, the Unit has become the Shadow Legion under Wysten. Reeve activates the team's location mark before five assassins ambush and kill an Emperor, then identifies the man blocking their escape as a Great Sage. He and the others refuse to incriminate their faction despite torture severe enough to render them unconscious. Nux's counterattack ends the trap, and the five are carried to safety through his portals. Reeve survives, but the corpus gives him no later individual scene or confirmed cultivation advancement. Appearance and personality

Reeve wears the black clothing and mask used by Skyfall's covert forces and carries a weapon when Ricardus summons the six Shadow leaders. The supplied evidence does not specify that weapon's type or describe Reeve's age, build, hair, eyes, or other identifying features. His obscurity is intentional: most ministers do not know that he exists, and the public incorrectly assumes Keeve is the king's strongest subordinate. (Chapters 445, 793, 883)

He is restrained, duty-bound, and protective of institutional boundaries. Reeve refuses Kelton and challenges Evane when their requests conflict with his understanding of the Unit's mandate, yet he does so respectfully and yields when a legitimate higher authority is established. He can be severe in the field, but he is also capable of reassessing himself: defeat by Nux makes him ashamed of complacency rather than resentful of the lesson. His silence under torture shows that the later Shadow Legion has earned loyalty beyond the ordinary assassin rules its captors expect him to follow. (Chapters 445, 517–523, 542, 555, 883–884)

Abilities and cultivation

King-stage bodyguard training

Reeve is a King-stage cultivator and is stated to be stronger than Keeve, though he hides that fact while serving as the king's unseen bodyguard. His rank gives him the pressure and physical ability expected of Skyfall's six elite leaders, but the corpus never isolates a named offensive spell, weapon technique, maximum speed, or destructive feat for him. Nux can pass directly by him under Conceal, knock him unconscious, and defeat the assembled Shadow Unit without Reeve reacting effectively, establishing advanced concealment and a sufficiently faster opponent as demonstrated counters. No later scene shows whether his renewed training closes that gap. (Chapters 445, 529–542)

Reeve can recognize a Great Sage's stage while facing one and operates in coordinated assassination formations. In the Emperor ambush, however, the text assigns the baiting dagger strike to Keeve and the killing blow to Wysten; Reeve's individual attack is not identified. The successful kill is therefore a team feat rather than evidence that Reeve can defeat an Emperor alone. The Great Sage who intercepts them overwhelms all five, confirming that Reeve's King-stage cultivation cannot bridge that stage difference. (Chapters 883–884)

Location-marking sphere

Before the Shadow Legion's ambush, Reeve channels power into a white sphere. It shines and disperses into the air, establishing the mark the team uses with its portal network. This is an item-derived operational ability, not a spell demonstrated as innate to Reeve. The known use requires possession and activation of the sphere at the target area; its precise radius, duration, energy source, manufacturing, and reuse conditions are not explained. The portals themselves come from Nux's system rather than Reeve, and hostile outsiders cannot enter them merely by reaching the marked location. (Chapters 883–886)

Relationships

• Keeve: Keeve is Reeve's fellow Shadow leader and the more public of the pair, although Reeve is secretly stronger. They share royal security duties, humiliation under Nux's test, removal of Ricardus, and the final captured assassination team. (Chapters 445, 529–542, 793–795, 883–891)
• Evane: Reeve initially guards the Shadow Unit's secrecy from Evane's broad claim of command. Once she invokes Astaria's authority, he recognizes her position, defends her selection to skeptical subordinates, and carries out the spy purge under her rule. (Chapters 509–526, 542–555)
• Astaria: Astaria exposes the Unit's limitations but treats defeat as a reason to train rather than despair. Reeve accepts that standard and later follows her direction during Ricardus's confrontation. (Chapters 497–499, 529–542, 793–795)

Reeve activates an unnamed white location-marking sphere supplied for Shadow Legion operations. Its dispersal permits the unit's portal-supported ambush, but it has no established function outside that network and is not shown remaining in Reeve's possession afterward.
