Gibson Fulvanius

Gibson Fulvanius is a Skyfall royal minister, Thornton's elder brother, and the son of Cyneheard. His caution and political analysis make him the Fulvanius faction's principal strategist during Raguel's conspiracy, but he cannot prevent Amaya from turning the failed assassinations against the house.

Biography

Minister of an indifferent king

Gibson first appears presenting a palace investigation into Edrea Fox and Marquee Alger. Although other ministers consider the matter minor, he explains why the reported spy case appears internally inconsistent and leads the discussion through competing interpretations. Ricardus dismisses it and redirects Gibson to the supposed curse afflicting Amaya; obeying the king, Gibson has dispatched agents across the world but found no cure for a condition that is, unknown to him, fabricated. (Chapters 180–181)

The scene establishes both his administrative competence and his political limit. Gibson can gather reports, test explanations, and manage royal assignments, but Ricardus decides which evidence matters. Gibson recognizes the king's priorities as misplaced yet does not challenge him openly, helping explain why he later has grievances against Ricardus without proving any personal motive beyond the Fulvanius succession interest. (Chapters 180–181 and 431)

Designing the assassination plan

When Thornton learns that three Duke houses support Lovis, he calls Gibson into the effort to preserve Raguel's claim and organize a coup. Gibson focuses first on Amaya: because he cannot explain why she encouraged the faction against Ricardus while hiding Duke Centho's alliance, he concludes that she has been manipulating Raguel and recommends killing her. He knows reporting her to the king would expose the same succession information the faction needs concealed, so he treats the temporarily reduced palace security as a rare chance to remove her. (Chapters 431–433)

Thornton adds Lovis and Raguel adds Evane. Gibson warns that Evane's death would make Raguel look guilty, but accepts the risk when Raguel insists and helps consolidate the attacks into a coordinated plan. The result is disastrous: Lovis dies, yet Evane and Amaya survive, leaving the faction exposed to the very political counterattack Gibson feared. His analysis correctly identifies Amaya as the greater strategist, but his decision to answer uncertainty with assassination gives her the opening to destroy their position. (Chapters 433–449)

The Fulvanius collapse

As Evane's case develops in the Royal Hall, Gibson tries to redirect suspicion toward her unexplained King Stage bodyguard and insists that her claims remain speculative. Evidence supplied by other ministers weakens him, and he cannot stop an investigation into Raguel. Back at the Fulvanius estate, he restrains Raguel while Cyneheard beats Thornton, accepts that his brother “was asking for it,” and reports that he has already severed the house's traceable ties to the assassins. He also monitors the other Duke houses, but their cooperation and Astaria's involvement leave the family strategically surrounded. (Chapters 449 and 461–462)

The faction's renewed attempt ends with Cyneheard dead and Raguel captured. When Evane presents Cyneheard's body and a false account implicating foreign aid, Gibson defends Raguel until Nux seizes him by the throat; as an Expert Stage cultivator, he is unable to resist. Evane then traps him between admitting Raguel's responsibility and allowing blame to fall on the entire Fulvanius family. Gibson tries to accuse her of attacking the estate, but her planted evidence turns that claim into further grounds for investigation. Nux releases him alive, and the main continuity does not show his fate after the royal order to pursue Raguel. (Chapters 488 and 494–495)

An alternate-history sequence following Allura's reincarnation shows Gibson again serving in the palace during her childhood, enforcing etiquette and being startled by her knowledge of the Emperor Stage. Because this sequence resets history rather than continuing Chapter 495, it does not establish Gibson's later main-continuity survival or development. (Chapters 788–789)

Appearance and personality

Gibson is an older-looking man with a thin face, black hair, crystal-blue eyes, and wrinkles that soften otherwise sharp features. He wears a blue coat patterned in purple and projects a refined, scholar-like aura. (Chapter 180)

He is analytical, cautious, and more willing than Thornton or Raguel to consider hidden motives and political consequences. That caution is not moral restraint: when he cannot understand Amaya's plan, he prefers assassination to uncertainty and ultimately participates in attacks on several royals. Under direct physical threat he panics, but after Nux releases him he immediately searches for a counterargument, showing persistence even when the faction's position has collapsed. (Chapters 433–434 and 495)

Abilities and cultivation

Gibson is an Expert Stage cultivator. The corpus gives no affinity, cultivation method, weapon, named technique, activation condition, or direct combat victory. His inability to react before Nux grabs him, and his failure to break Nux's hold, demonstrate the gap between his stage and a King Stage opponent rather than a special restraint ability on Gibson's part. (Chapters 180 and 495)

His strongest demonstrated competencies are investigation and political planning. He finds inconsistencies in the Edrea case, reasons through Amaya's manipulation, uses confidential knowledge of palace security, cuts the assassins' formal ties to Fulvanius House, and monitors rival correspondence. These are learned administrative and conspiratorial skills, not cultivation powers; their limit is that Amaya anticipates and exploits the faction's responses. No later progression is established in the main continuity or the reset history. (Chapters 180–181, 433–434, and 462)

Relationships

• Thornton: Thornton is Gibson's younger brother and brings him into the coup. Gibson helps design the assassination plan but does not protect Thornton from Cyneheard's punishment after its failure. (Chapters 431–434 and 461–462)
• Cyneheard: Cyneheard is Gibson's father and the house's King Stage ancestor. Gibson defers to him after the plot fails and is visibly terrified when Evane later displays his corpse. (Chapters 462 and 494)
• Raguel: Gibson serves as Raguel's elder adviser in the succession conspiracy. He warns against adding Evane yet joins the plan, then attempts to shield Raguel after the resulting political collapse. (Chapters 433–434 and 494–495)
• Amaya: Gibson correctly treats Amaya as a dangerous manipulator but cannot determine her full plan. His decision to assassinate her becomes part of the failure she turns against the Fulvanius faction. (Chapters 433–449)
• Evane: Gibson helps plan Evane's murder and later contests her case in the Royal Hall. She defeats his defenses by forcing every explanation to expose either Raguel or the entire Fulvanius family. (Chapters 434, 449, and 494–495)
