Azriel Ruinous, formerly Azriel Origin, is Yrniel's Vampire Progenitor, Aeliana's father, and the eventual God of the Main Universe. Grief drives him from guardian to absentee father and even to death; confrontation with Nux forces him to repair that abandonment, while the possibility of reviving his wives gives his later ascent a purpose beyond power itself.

Biography

A protector bound to Yrniel

Azriel Origin was one of Yrniel's first intelligent beings and the progenitor of its Vampires. Even among the other Progenitors, he was an anomaly: comparisons of the strongest Divine-stage cultivators conventionally excluded him because those who knew his strength considered competition with him meaningless. He also helped devise a way for the Progenitors to divide their blood among later generations, allowing a race to recover even if its original bloodline was nearly extinguished. His place at Yrniel's summit, however, came with an unusually intimate bond to the world and an obligation to defend it. (Chapters 1256 and 1446)

That duty failed him at the point that mattered most personally. Otherworlders who feared his growth attacked Yrniel and drew him into battle; while he destroyed the forces sent against him, his wives, Luminia and Ithania, were killed. Yrniel's restrictions prevented him from pursuing their killers beyond the world. Convinced that the dead could not be restored, Azriel withdrew into Yrniel's Core and left his infant daughter, Aeliana, to the other Progenitors. Thereafter he generally woke only when Yrniel perceived an existential danger, destroyed it, and returned to sleep. Azriel eventually ended his own life because he no longer wished to continue living. When another otherworldly invasion threatened to overwhelm Yrniel, the Progenitors and the world's Will used a special reincarnation process to bring him back. The resulting Azriel Ruinous was much stronger than Azriel Origin and turned the invasion aside. This rebirth was not a routine technique that Azriel could freely reproduce: it depended on his death, his blood essence, Yrniel, and the Progenitors' intervention. Awakening to a daughter he had left behind

Azriel fully emerged when Yrniel identified Nux and his otherworldly power as a threat. He attacked without first investigating, incapacitated Faustina when she defended Nux, and tore open Nux's private Core after Aeliana helped him escape. His overwhelming certainty faltered as soon as he confronted Aeliana. She addressed him formally, protected Nux, and made clear that the father standing before her was effectively a stranger. Nux forced that estrangement into the open. Though Azriel could have killed him, Nux denounced his retreat as cowardice and described the loneliness Aeliana had endured while her father slept. Aeliana began accepting his presence and Azriel became protective of her relationship with Nux, warning his prospective son-in-law not to exploit her feelings. Azriel's attempt to escape Yrniel exposed how deeply the world had made him both guardian and hostage. The Seer accelerated an outcome she said was inevitable: Azriel became the Main Universe's Child, connected directly to its structure rather than merely to his birth world. This change let him perceive through the Universe's “eyes,” sensing the flow of time, the fabric of space, and the energies of life and death. With the Core's cooperation, he searched the Universe's cycle for his wives' souls, restored the memories belonging to Ithania and Luminia, formed new bodies for them through life and creation power, and revived them. He initially appears detached, economical with words, and so certain of his judgment that he treats most beings' opinions as irrelevant. His arrogance is not merely theatrical: he has commanded armies against vastly larger forces and possesses power that makes the other Yrniel Progenitors appear helpless. Yet his coldness is a wall around intense grief and loyalty. Aeliana can reduce him from an unshakable ruler to a hesitant father, and the revival of his wives makes him openly weep. Azriel is capable of revising his conduct when confronted with consequences he cannot dismiss. Nux's defense of Aeliana changes his priorities, and his later acceptance that Nux is stronger is candid rather than resentful. Vampire Progenitor and reincarnated foundation

As the Vampire Progenitor, Azriel stands at the origin of Yrniel's Vampire bloodline. The corpus demonstrates immense physical, spiritual, and spatial capability, but does not provide a complete catalogue of innate Vampire techniques specific to him. His blood-red mist accompanies his arrival, and he can tear through the boundary of Nux's Core with a hand movement, but the exact division between bloodline power, cultivation, and his Law in these feats is unexplained. Azriel Ruinous is a reincarnated, strengthened form of Azriel Origin. The revival was enabled by Yrniel's Will and the Progenitors during an invasion, and its demonstrated result was power sufficient to reverse a war they were losing. It should not be treated as an at-will self-resurrection: Azriel later explains that reincarnation depends on specific souls, bodies, universal connections, and circumstances, and the method used on him cannot simply be transferred to every dying cultivator. Azriel's original signature Law is the Law of Absolute. Anything he sufficiently understands and uses—a sword, shield, spell, skill, technique, attack, or defense—becomes “Absolute.” This gives him unusually broad perfection rather than a single narrow domain and is why Faustina describes his Law as the strongest among the Yrniel Progenitors. At Infinity, Azriel no longer relies on a finite Domain in the manner of an Eternal. His own explanation distinguishes the stages: an Eternal establishes a bounded Domain in which a Law is absolute, whereas an Infinity's deeper understanding allows the Law to be imposed directly on reality wherever the cultivator can define, touch, or claim its reach. Azriel can consequently advise Nux on Infinity mechanics before Nux fights Zylarith, though at that time Azriel has not yet completed the breakthrough himself. (Chapter 2348)

Azriel reaches Infinity in Chapter 2403 and connects to the Main Universe's Core as its God. With the Core's cooperation he can inspect souls across their reincarnations, isolate desired identities, restore erased memories, and use life and creation power to form bodies. His revival of Luminia and Ithania is demonstrated; whether he can reproduce it without the Core's participation, or on souls erased rather than reincarnated within that Universe, is unknown. Azriel has led millions against billions and is an experienced trainer, commander, and evaluator of high-level cultivation. He trains the Yrniel Progenitors for universal conflict, gives Nux technical guidance on reincarnation and Infinity, and manipulates the four Infinities by using their pride and informational disadvantage.
