Wu Lan

Wu Lan is a Divine Realm demon beast whose unassuming manner conceals exceptional physical power and hard-earned knowledge. Formerly caged as an exotic pet in the Bewitching God Temple and later bound within the Ten Thousand Beasts Atlas, he chooses to support Qin Yu while preserving his independence, eventually becoming an elder, teacher, and protector within Qin Yu's household.

Biography

A wary elder chooses Qin Yu

When Qin Yu gains access to the Ten Thousand Beasts Atlas's strongest residents, Wu Lan is the one who turns a coercive master–beast arrangement into a negotiated alliance. He explains the origins and temperaments of Ye Qu and Ao Wuxu, persuades them to grant Qin Yu limited aid, and warns Qin Yu not to let powerful protectors replace the danger and effort needed for his own growth. Wu Lan is kinder to Qin Yu than he was to Ni Yang because the Sword Immortal Puppet and Jiang Lan's Realm convince him that Uncle Lan is an extraordinary Divine Realm backer. (Chapters 378–380)

Wu Lan then discloses enough of his own history to clarify both his caution and his goal. He is a demon beast native to the Divine Realm who reached the lower realm through the Bewitching God Temple, and he longs to return home when Qin Yu ascends. At the same time, he refuses to satisfy every question merely because Qin Yu now owns the Atlas: he postpones fuller explanations of the Divine Realm, teaches caution around the Bewitching God Temple, and offers information when it will help Qin Yu act rather than simply feed his curiosity. Household elder and decisive protector

Life in Jiang Lan's Realm changes Wu Lan from a distant expert into part of Qin Yu's extended family. The richer energy helps him reach level-eight Demon Emperor, while his days fill with tea, games, and the milestones of Hei Yu's household. He watches Hei Tong grow up, openly indulges her, and later teaches Guo Fan a fist method because the younger man's attack style resembles his own. His patient demonstrations require Guo Fan to observe with both his eyes and Demon Awareness, then comprehend the method for himself instead of copying it mechanically. (Chapters 399–428)

That domestic patience ends the moment Qin Yu's enemies descend on the Flowing Mist Star. Wu Lan detects Emperor Yu's sweeping awareness, warns Qin Yu, and meets the attack directly. With one fist he shatters Emperor Yu's Mid Quality Divine Artifact sword, pierces his body, and destroys his Nascent Soul, after which he deters the Peng Demon Emperor by explaining that the latter cannot injure him at close range. The victory protects Bai Ling, Hei Tong, and the household, but Wu Lan still keeps the boundary of his alliance: he jokingly tries to count the unsolicited intervention as Qin Yu's one command, and Qin Yu refuses. Guide to the Dark Star Realm and Bewitching God Temple

Wu Lan becomes Qin Yu's most useful interpreter of hazards that lie beyond ordinary lower-realm experience. He helps assess the sealed entrance to the Bewitching God Temple, cautions Qin Yu that his knowledge of the Dark Star Realm is incomplete, and identifies a cold pond as Unitary Heavy Water. Although his body can withstand the Dark Star's gravity and approach the pond, the hidden object beneath it injures even his black-coated hand. He therefore establishes a concrete limit—direct collection is beyond him—and proposes that Qin Yu strengthen his body enough to approach and use Jiang Lan's Realm to absorb the pond as a whole. During Qin Yu's eventual exploration of the Bewitching God Temple, Wu Lan remains available by voice transmission, identifying the Front Palace, describing the rooms' dangers, and urging him to follow the Bewitching God Painting. The house-pet room forces Wu Lan to confront his own captivity: an expert seized him in the Divine Realm and presented him to the temple's master, who kept rare beings in cages, before Ni Yang released Wu Lan and Ye Qu. Rather than dwell only on his pain, Wu Lan asks Qin Yu to free the beasts still imprisoned there, turning his knowledge of the place into a chance to end their confinement. (Chapters 455–456)

Return home and delayed tribulation

Wu Lan declines any further role in the Immortal, Devil and Demon Realm once Qin Yu prepares to ascend, asking only to remain in Jiang Lan's Realm and return to his native Divine Realm with him. By Qin Yu's Divine Tribulation he has reached level-nine Demon Emperor, and he helps maintain the protective barrier around the spectators. In the Divine Realm, Uncle Fu finally identifies Wu Lan's true body as the Blackstain Ant, ruler of the local ant-type demon beasts; Wu Lan tempers that grand title by recalling that a Mid Level Heavenly Deity still captured him with ease. The Divine Realm imposes a new practical restriction: before passing his own Divine Tribulation, Wu Lan cannot assume human form outside Jiang Lan's Realm. Long residence in Qin Yu's later-enclosed refuge lets him form a Golden Soul Pellet but prevents the tribulation from being sensed, leaving him worried and unable to advance. Once Qin Yu brings him back into the Divine Realm, the tribulation becomes perceptible immediately. Qin Yu then entrusts Wu Lan and three companions to Tan Jiu's protection until they pass it, carrying the old ally out personally because of the affection built over their journey together. Appearance and personality

Wu Lan usually appears as a thin, black-clad young man with lustrous skin and a deep, composed gaze; in his Divine Realm true form, he is a half-human-sized black ant covered in circulating black light. He is knowledgeable without being boastful, guarded about commitments, and quick to distinguish what he knows from what he does not. In peaceful settings he is relaxed, fond of tea, wine, and games, and especially indulgent toward younger members of the household. In danger, the same calm becomes intimidating certainty: he does not posture before Emperor Yu or the Peng Demon Emperor, but simply states and demonstrates what his body can withstand. Abilities and cultivation

Blackstain Ant body and fist method

As a Blackstain Ant, Wu Lan possesses a body powerful enough to survive pressures and forces that defeat ordinary Emperor-level cultivators. His fist method appears slow while compressing or freezing the surrounding space, and even a demonstration using no energy can visibly distort it. When black light flows over his hand in battle, the strike shatters Emperor Yu's Mid Quality Divine Artifact and destroys both body and Nascent Soul. This is not unlimited spatial control: the sealed Bewitching God Temple entrance withstands Wu Lan and several other experts attacking together, and he admits that he can block but not defeat the vastly faster Peng Demon Emperor. Wu Lan's durability also has clear environmental limits. He moves freely under a Fourteen Star Emperor Level Dark Star's gravity and can touch ordinary Unitary Heavy Water with his protected hand, but the sharper cold generated by the hidden object beneath the pond injures him and forces an immediate retreat. Against Divine Realm opponents, his own description is equally measured: he can command many ant subordinates against a Low Level Heavenly Deity, yet spatial-law control lets a Mid Level Heavenly Deity overcome strength and numbers and was how he was captured. (Chapters 443–444, 494)

Cultivation and progression

Wu Lan advances from level seven to level eight Demon Emperor through training in Jiang Lan's Realm, then reaches level nine before Qin Yu's Divine Tribulation. Extended cultivation later condenses his soul into a Golden Soul Pellet. His progression depends on environment as well as effort: Jiang Lan's Realm's energy and time acceleration support his growth, but when that artifact lies within Qin Yu's independent Universal World, the outside cosmos cannot deliver or even signal his Divine Tribulation. Returning to the Divine Realm restores that connection, although the supplied chapters end before the tribulation itself occurs. (Chapters 400–401, 448–449, 488, 531–553)

Knowledge and instruction

Experience in both the Divine Realm and Bewitching God Temple gives Wu Lan rare knowledge of cosmic spaces, Divine Realm creatures, artifacts, dangerous energies, and the temple's structure. He applies that knowledge as a counselor rather than claiming omniscience: he accurately identifies Unitary Heavy Water and guides Qin Yu through the temple, yet cannot identify the soul-attacking golden bead and repeatedly marks gaps in his knowledge. As a teacher, he demonstrates principles and expects the student to comprehend them independently, whether advising Qin Yu not to depend on protectors or making Guo Fan derive the fist method through observation and practice. Relationships

• Qin Yu: Wu Lan begins as an independent Atlas expert who grants limited protection, then becomes a trusted counselor and household protector. He backs Qin Yu because Uncle Lan's works reveal a powerful connection, but enduring affection grows from their shared years and Qin Yu's respect for his autonomy.
• Ye Qu: Ye Qu treats him as “Boss Wu Lan” and follows his judgment. They share the history of captivity in the Bewitching God Temple, and Wu Lan helps arrange Ye Qu's bounded promise of aid to Qin Yu.
• Ao Wuxu: A fellow top expert from the Ten Thousand Beasts Atlas. Wu Lan understands Ao Wuxu's pride and abilities, and his personal standing persuades Ao Wuxu to grant Qin Yu one command.
• Hei Tong: Wu Lan watches her grow up and treats her with uncle-like affection. Her coaxing can persuade him to extend Guo Fan's lessons and help Qin Yu.
• Guo Fan: Wu Lan becomes his martial instructor after recognizing that Guo Fan's fist style resembles his own, but insists that genuine comprehension must replace imitation.
• Hei Yu and Hou Fei: He is an elder companion to Qin Yu's brothers, calming their worries during Qin Yu's deep cultivation and explaining forms of cultivation beyond their immediate experience.
