Shentu Yan
Shentu Yan is the Utmost West Sage Emperor, ruler of the Shentu Clan and bearer of its Fire Origin Spiritual Pearl. He is distinct from Luo Fan, the Asura Godking: Shentu Yan joins coalitions against both Luo Fan and Qin Yu, and Luo Fan kills another Shentu clansman during the struggle for the Exalted Celestial seals.
Biography
Failed encirclement of Qin Yu
Shentu Yan is one of six Sage Emperors who teleport to the Southern Boundary Archipelago to encircle Qin Yu and Jiang Li. He deploys the Shentu Clan's Fire Origin Spiritual Pearl and attacks Qin Yu's true body beside Mu Qin while the other emperors divide between Qin Yu's clone and Jiang Li. Qin Yu's spear nearly breaks their combined Spatial Freezing, forcing Shentu Yan and Mu Qin to continually reinforce it with their Origin Spiritual Pearls as the six rulers attempt a coordinated finishing attack. (Chapters 619–620)
Qin Yu nevertheless escapes through a spatial ability the Sage Emperors cannot suppress. Afterward, Shentu Yan states the strategic conclusion plainly: if Qin Yu can break Spatial Freezing, their observed methods cannot kill him. Unlike Zhou Huo, he does not treat wounded pride as a reason for endless escalation. Shentu Yan joins three other emperors in withdrawing from Zhou Huo's campaign, while leaving open the practical condition that he would help again if Zhou Huo found a method certain to work. (Chapters 620–621)
Exalted Celestial Mountain
When the Exalted Celestial seals appear, Shentu Yan joins the other sacred-family rulers against Luo Fan, whose command of Time Stop threatens every competitor. The struggle becomes personal when Luo Fan uses that temporal advantage to split Shentu Nian in two and take the Blue Sky Seal. Shentu Yan still acts through shifting coalitions rather than charging alone: the Sage Emperors combine their Origin Spiritual Pearls into battle formations, contest later seals, and reorganize alliances as individual Godkings are killed. (Chapters 645–665)
After Qin Yu survives the Thunder Punishment Exalted Celestial's attack, Shentu Yan follows the other Sage Emperors into the black channel leading to Qin Yu's New Cosmos, believing it to be a lower realm where the All People Seal can be seized. The decision leaves him powerless under unfamiliar laws. He cannot teleport or use his accustomed spatial and temporal authority, and Hou Fei knocks him and the other Sage Emperors through the air without resistance. Qin Yu consequently captures the rulers rather than allowing their final assault on Fog City to continue. (Chapters 669–670)
Service at Purple Mystic Mansion
Faced with death or service, Shentu Yan immediately asks how long the term will last and accepts the answer. Qin Yu reduces his sentence from six quadrillion years to one hundred million years because of Shentu Fan's friendship with him. Shentu Yan then tells his son that he is entering long seclusion and entrusts Mount Blazing Flame to the younger generation, concealing the humiliation while preserving orderly government in his absence. (Chapters 671–672)
Shentu Yan lives within Purple Mystic Mansion as a Godking servant, playing chess with Putai Hong and witnessing the final contest over the three seals. He remains alive through the end of the supplied corpus and sees Qin Yu revealed as the martial uncle of the Exalted Celestials. His arc ends not with the death of the Shentu Clan or with his becoming Luo Fan, but with the old Sage Emperor forced to recognize a cosmic hierarchy far beyond the sacred families' authority. (Chapters 672–680)
Appearance and personality
The supplied chapters provide no stable physical portrait beyond Shentu Yan's presence among the ancient Sage Emperors and the red Fire Origin Spiritual Pearl that appears above him in battle. His conduct is severe but pragmatic. He will participate in an overwhelming encirclement and in alliances against rivals, yet he also analyzes failure without denial, withdraws when killing Qin Yu proves impossible, negotiates the length of captivity, and makes immediate arrangements for his clan's continuity. (Chapters 619–621, 645–672)
Abilities and cultivation
Sage Emperor authority
Shentu Yan is a Godking and one of the first-generation rulers of the Eight Great Divine Families. He can teleport, freeze space, fly at Godking speed, and coordinate his power with other Sage Emperors. These abilities make him overwhelming by ordinary Divine Realm standards, but they do not include Luo Fan's Time Stop. In their clashes, Luo Fan's temporal authority can immobilize other Godkings long enough to seize a seal and kill Shentu Nian before the coalition can prevent it. (Chapters 619–621, 645–648)
Fire Origin Spiritual Pearl
The Shentu Clan's first-rate Grandmist Spiritual Treasure is the Fire Origin Spiritual Pearl, an Origin Spiritual Pearl tied to its special bloodline. It lets Shentu Yan control fire-origin energy and reinforce Spatial Freezing; when combined with the other sacred-family pearls, it contributes to formations built from complementary elemental powers. The pearl does not make those formations inescapable. Qin Yu's control of his own cosmos breaks the six-emperor seal, and the New Cosmos later renders Shentu Yan's familiar spatial and temporal laws unusable regardless of the treasure he carries. (Chapters 619–621, 646, 669–670)
Relationships
- Qin Yu: Shentu Yan begins as a coalition opponent, later recognizes that Qin Yu cannot be killed by their known methods, and is finally captured in Qin Yu's New Cosmos. Qin Yu imposes service rather than death.
- Zhou Huo: A fellow Sage Emperor whose campaign Shentu Yan initially supports. He withdraws when Zhou Huo cannot offer a reliable way to contain Qin Yu.
- Luo Fan: The Asura Godking and Shentu Yan's rival during the seal contest. Luo Fan's Time Stop defeats the sacred-family coalition's ordinary spatial advantages and enables him to kill Shentu Nian.
- Shentu Fan: Shentu Yan's son and the temporary steward of Mount Blazing Flame. His friendship with Qin Yu is the reason Shentu Yan receives the shorter term of service.
