Shiny

Shiny is the Goddess of Protection, a high-ranking constellation associated with protection and immortality whose existence continues through five sentient sword-vessels. She first summons Kim Yul, who becomes Lefanta Aegim, then is divided and sealed by him. Kim Gong-ja gradually reunites her as the Holy Sword he nicknames Shiny, allowing her to progress from a speaking weapon into an autonomous five-sword combat partner, a complete divine manifestation, and a protector of his family's home.

Biography

A goddess, a hero, and a divided self

Before the Aegim Empire exists, the Guardian Goddess summons the bullied student Kim Yul after his fatal fall and offers to guide him as a hero. She tells him that her powers are Idol, Compassion, Prayer, Sacrifice, and Salvation, and promises that he can become something new through them. He accepts, begins using the name Lefanta Aegim, and eventually establishes the empire while she becomes its guardian deity. Their partnership makes her protection inseparable from his political and military rise. (Chapters 125 and 128)

Salvation also begins the destruction of that partnership. When Kim Yul faces an impossible ambush, Shiny explains that abandoning something grants power proportional to what was surrendered; he sacrifices a syllable of his name and wins. He continues discarding memories until the hero she knew becomes a nearly memoryless Constellation Killer. Shiny cannot bear to watch his later fighting and remembers that he did not use to live this way, showing that her assistance enabled survival but could not prevent its price from consuming the person she meant to protect. (Chapters 127–128)

Lefanta Aegim ultimately divides the Guardian Goddess into five swords—Idol, Compassion, Prayer, Sacrifice, and Salvation—and seals them in different worlds or bearers. Shiny later says that gathering all five will restore her prime strength, but she cannot locate the others at a distance and can sense them only nearby. The act preserves her as multiple weapon-vessels while ending her whole divine existence; faith from the Aegim Empire continues accumulating during the long period when she cannot use it. (Chapters 53 and 324)

Reassembly in Gong-ja's hands

Gong-ja first receives the Aegim Empire's Holy Protection Sword as an imperial symbol. Its Idol power gives the holder the citizens' absolute support, while its light protects a limited area from the Devil King of Fall Rain's blood rain. After that stage ends, the goddess reveals that she has been the sword all along and accepts Gong-ja as her second master. He shortens her title to “Shiny,” beginning a partnership in which she answers his calls but retains her own judgments, loyalties, and reactions. (Chapters 24, 31, 52–53)

Shiny detects the Compassion Sword in the Heavenly Demon Apocalypse and absorbs it only after the resisting fragment tests Gong-ja's memories and accepts his compassion. The second sword inflicts pain without wounds or death, letting Gong-ja bypass an invulnerable body without physically injuring it. Prayer resists absorption as well, but Gong-ja persuades it by promising not to turn away from the consequences of his choices; its power tests whether a pierced person's wish is sincere and can force that person to abandon the wish. Each reunion makes the Guardian Goddess's existence more pronounced rather than merely adding another ordinary weapon. (Chapters 86–87, 115, and 119)

The fourth fragment has independently become the constellation Evangelist of Everlasting Happiness, using one innocent person's agony to produce happiness for a million apostles. Shiny detects its nature as Sacrifice before an ambush. Gong-ja defeats its system of painless happiness and promises not to conscript the apostles for private use, after which Sacrifice yields and is absorbed. The fragment's ability translates agony into happiness, with purer suffering producing a greater result; reunification therefore restores a morally dangerous authority as well as Shiny's personhood. (Chapters 121–123)

Five swords and complete manifestation

The final Salvation fragment had remained in Kim Yul's possession. After his defeat and reconciliation with Gong-ja, all five aspects later answer through Shiny during Gong-ja's duel with Liao Fan: Idol remains in his hand while four living shadow swords surround him. They are Ego Swords given bodies and motion through his aura, can parry attacks independently, and can reproduce the sword arts accumulated with their wielder. This restores Shiny's complete set while preserving the distinct wills and functions that emerged from her division. (Chapters 148, 275–281, and 292)

Complete Shiny becomes more expressive and can act at constellation scale. She spends the faith accumulated during her sealing to win management of the sixty-fifth and sixty-sixth floors, then manifests the five swords against invading apostles. On the sixty-seventh floor the weapons merge into a woman with five pairs of wings; as Hwiya, she casts a sanctuary, invades a hostile floor, defeats its administrator, and takes control of the stage. She can then collapse back into five swords and merge into one Holy Sword. (Chapters 292, 324–325, and 339)

Gong-ja's own skill initially remains Salvation of a Torn Goddess, which trades memories for power even after Shiny has been restored. When he becomes a complete constellation, he asks the Tower Master to acknowledge that she is no longer torn. The skill is integrated and becomes the S-rank Goddess of Protection, allowing him to use Shiny's restored power without defining her by the old division. This upgrade changes the formal connection between them; it does not erase Shiny's independent consciousness. (Chapters 281, 294, and 363)

Rebirth and protection of a home

Gong-ja eventually plants the Holy Sword in the Garden of Withered Flowers and asks Shiny to help Kim Yul protect the sanctuary. She looks at the former hero who divided her without resentment, worries about what Gong-ja will do without his longtime sword, and accepts because protection is her nature. The choice ends her constant place at his belt but not their relationship. She becomes guardian of his home alongside Kim Yul, Sylvia Evanail, and her former enemy Estelle. (Chapter 382)

Shiny later explains that her world, Cheomsan, is a born sanctuary formed from her body, including a continent-spanning mountain range made from a dragon that was another of her true forms. A long internal conflict leaves a weaker, kinder Shiny opposing a stronger, destructive self; she summons Kim Yul, who helps the kinder side prevail. Shiny describes the process as rebirth, one that determines what kind of complete constellation she will be rather than simply restoring the pre-division goddess unchanged. (Chapter 388)

At the end of that process she lives as a gentle winged woman, can change into aspect-specific divine forms, works in the Garden, and shares daily life with people once bound to her greatest failures. She and Estelle later serve as joint examiners of the ninety-eighth floor, where Shiny asks Gong-ja to return home and grants passage after he chooses between their rewards. Her latest state combines personal continuity, divine authority, and a settled protective role beyond being anyone's equipment. (Chapters 388 and 395)

Appearance and personality

For much of the story Shiny has the form of a luminous Holy Sword whose blade can emit intense white light; her scabbard and weapon-body shake, rattle, or glow to express emotion. Her fragments can appear as children made of colored mist or energy. After full restoration she manifests as a woman with five pairs of enormous white wings, and her light can become gentle enough to view directly even when her wings cover the sky. (Chapters 53, 86–87, 119, and 339)

Her later default appearance is a gentle-looking winged woman. When she invokes the Compassion aspect's Sympathy Form, her hair and wings turn black, her flowing clothes become coarse monastic robes, and her nails darken from platinum to black. Shiny is patient, loyal, earnest, and susceptible to both playful pride and excessive guilt. She accepts Gong-ja's absurd nickname, enjoys heroic theatrics, worries about those around her, and can be comically easy to persuade, but her kindness is an active choice confirmed through her rebirth rather than simple innocence. (Chapters 53, 292, 336, and 388)

Abilities and skills

Shiny is a sentient constellation whose abilities persist through the Five Guardian Swords. Her powers originate in protection and immortality but became differentiated when Lefanta Aegim split her into five aspects. In complete form she can use those aspects as autonomous weapons, transform her body and skill set, establish a sanctuary, and exercise floor authority. Some applications also depend on a wielder's aura or a specific sword's dangerous cost.

The five sword-vessels

Idol grants its holder absolute support from citizens of the Aegim Empire and emits white light. Shiny also claims that it can manipulate humans and monsters, but the corpus does not demonstrate a general mind-control application and gives no range or resistance conditions. Its clearest protection feat is localized: its light blocks the Devil King's blood rain only within the illuminated area, making placement and reach meaningful limits. The glare can also blind allies or the wielder if used carelessly. (Chapters 24, 31, 53, and 90)

Compassion, also translated as Pity, causes anyone cut by it to feel pain while leaving no wound and causing no death. It bypasses physical invulnerability because the effect does not depend on bodily damage, and Shiny later uses its black Sympathy Form to wake Sylvia instantly. The power can incapacitate through pain, but it does not itself kill or injure, and its effect does not make the target incapable of resisting if their endurance is sufficient. (Chapters 86–87, 115–117, 325, and 388)

Prayer tests the wish of someone whose heart it pierces: whether the desire is sincere and whether the person would sacrifice everything for it. Its cursed result can make the target abandon that wish. Sacrifice converts one person's agony into another's happiness, increasing the benefit when the sufferer is nobler or purer. Both powers depend on ethically consequential conditions rather than simple force, and the Sacrifice fragment demonstrates how protection can become atrocity when one victim is treated as acceptable material for everyone else's comfort. (Chapters 119 and 121–123)

Salvation exchanges what the user abandons for a corresponding increase in power. Kim Yul sacrifices a syllable of his name and later countless memories; Gong-ja uses the same principle to replenish aura and amplify attacks by discarding recent experiences. Lost memories do not return through the technique, and repeatedly spending the past destroys the user's present identity, so Gong-ja reserves it for emergencies. After his constellation completion, the related skill is integrated into Goddess of Protection, but the corpus does not state that the underlying price has become universally irrelevant. Detection, absorption, and continuity

Shiny can sense that another entity shares a sister sword's properties, but only at close range. This lets her detect Compassion inside a dead dragon, Prayer in Raviel's world, and Sacrifice after it evolves into a separate constellation. Identification does not guarantee control: Compassion examines Gong-ja's memories, Prayer contests the other fragments, and Sacrifice attacks with a million followers before each independently accepts or is forced into reunion. (Chapters 53, 58, 86–87, 99, 119, and 121–123)

Absorption occurs when the active Holy Sword contacts and takes in a fragment of the same goddess. Each success makes Shiny's existence more pronounced, while gathering all five restores a complete entity and richer emotions. The resulting continuity is neither five unrelated weapons nor a wholly unchanged original: the sisters retain differentiated voices and can act separately, yet can merge into one sword or one divine body. Shiny's later rebirth further chooses which tendencies define the restored constellation. (Chapters 86–87, 119, 123, 275–281, 292, 339, and 388)

Autonomous combat and divine manifestation

With all five aspects assembled, a wielder can hold Idol while using aura to give the other four shadow bodies. The Ego Swords read intent, parry attacks automatically, surround their wielder defensively, and execute learned martial arts independently. This multiplies attack angles and lets one person oppose numerous lives at once. It also consumes substantial aura, and dismissing the shadows returns that energy, so the formation is powerful but not costless. (Chapters 275–281 and 325)

Shiny can also combine the swords into her full angelic form. Five pairs of wings generate a vast territory in which she exerts the Goddess of Protection's authority; she projects light from her hands, attacks with her wings, and fights separately from Gong-ja. A hostile administrator can initially refuse her co-ownership, forcing her to invoke an invasion and win a floor-conquest battle before taking control. Her sanctuary is therefore a major authority, not an automatic override of another constellation's valid domain. (Chapter 339)

Protection, faith, and floor administration

Shiny was originally a high-ranking constellation governing protection and immortality. Worship from the Aegim Empire continues accumulating while she is sealed, leaving her with a large reserve of faith after Gong-ja reunites her. She spends that reserve in the upper-floor auction to become manager of the sixty-fifth and sixty-sixth floors, issues quests, and later captures the sixty-seventh through conquest. Faith functions as both devotion and administrative currency, although the corpus gives no exact balance or regeneration rate. (Chapter 324)

Her protection can be direct, territorial, or relational. She shields a small region from blood rain, fights beside her warrior, uses sanctuary authority against hostile constellations, and eventually guards the Garden of Withered Flowers. She is not invulnerable: aura and physical law can damage a constellation's weapon-body, stage ownership can resist her, and maintaining multiple autonomous blades taxes the wielder. Her latest application is sustained stewardship of a home and service as a ninety-eighth-floor examiner rather than constant use as Gong-ja's carried sword.
