Kaisel

Kaisel is the shadow wyvern that becomes Jinwoo Sung's principal aerial mount. Although rarely used as a speaking character or duelist, he changes the range and speed of Jinwoo's operations by carrying fighters, civilians, and wounded allies across battlefields that ordinary transportation cannot safely reach.

Biography

From the Demon’s Castle to the Shadow Army

Kaisel begins as Kaisellin, the winged mount of the Demon Monarch at the summit of the Demon’s Castle. The wyvern participates in the final confrontation and dies when its rider's defeat ends the instance dungeon. Iron retrieves the large body, prompting Jinwoo to test whether a creature of its kind can become a shadow (Chapter 31).

The extraction succeeds. Jinwoo shortens Kaisellin's name to Kaisel and identifies the new soldier as knight grade. The naming distinguishes him from an anonymous beast while the immediate possibility of riding him gives the army a capability it previously lacked: rapid flight under Jinwoo's direct control (Chapter 31).

A visible symbol after Jeju Island

Kaisel carries Jinwoo away from Jeju Island after the ant crisis. Because the battle has made Jinwoo internationally recognizable, the vast black wyvern can no longer pass unnoticed; crowds and officials identify Jinwoo's arrival from his mount before he lands. Kaisel thus becomes part of the public image of a hunter whose summoned forces are no longer a secret (Chapter 36).

His next missions emphasize protection rather than display. During the dungeon break at Jinah's school, Kaisel hovers over the building while Igris helps secure the students below. The wyvern provides immediate extraction and an aerial view of the danger, allowing Jinwoo's forces to act even while their master is elsewhere (Chapter 41).

Transport across Japan and the United States

During the giant crisis in Japan, Kaisel carries Jinwoo and Igris between widely separated targets while Beru flies alongside them. He can approach settlements from above, cross terrain made impassable by dungeon breaks, and set down close to the next battle. Civilians initially react to the enormous magic beast with fear, but its controlled behavior reveals that it is part of their rescue rather than another invader (Chapters 51–52).

Kaisel later performs an urgent medical evacuation after Jinho Yoo is tortured by Dongsoo Hwang. Jinwoo places the unconscious Jinho in Igris's care and orders Kaisel toward the nearest hospital while he remains to confront the Scavenger Guild. Carrying an injured human safely and rapidly matters more in that moment than contributing another combatant, showing how Jinwoo assigns the mount according to the mission rather than prestige (Chapter 56).

The Monarch war and the restored world

Kaisel carries Jinwoo toward the enormous gate over Seoul and also transports Jinwoo with Haein Cha during the brief period in which they can spend time together before the invasion. Haein's willingness to ride him reflects how thoroughly the wyvern has become a trusted extension of Jinwoo's presence (Chapters 62–63).

In the final confrontation, Kaisel dives toward the Dragon King with Jinwoo aboard. The enemy's Breath of Destruction can erase shadow soldiers beyond regeneration, so aerial maneuver is no longer routine transport: every approach risks permanent destruction. Kaisel nevertheless responds to Jinwoo's commands and helps close the distance on the most dangerous opponent in the war (Chapter 74).

Unlike shadows raised from humans who are alive at the restored point in history, Kaisel can accompany Jinwoo after the Cup of Reincarnation changes the timeline. He remains in the hidden army and later carries Jinwoo and Haein above the clouds, concealed from ordinary observers as the two share a private flight in the rewritten world (Chapters 75–77).

Appearance and personality

Kaisel is a huge winged wyvern with a long body, broad wings, and enough room to carry multiple riders. In shadow form, black vapor flows from him and his presence resembles a powerful magic beast even when his movements are completely controlled. His cries and wingbeats make landings dramatic, which is why he is difficult to conceal without Jinwoo's supernatural assistance (Chapters 31, 36).

The text presents his temperament through response and sound rather than human speech. Kaisel obeys changes in direction immediately, accepts unfamiliar passengers, and shows excitement through loud cries. He is spirited but not unruly: whether approaching a battle, hovering over civilians, or carrying a critically injured passenger, he follows the purpose behind Jinwoo's command (Chapters 41, 51, 56).

Abilities, skills, and rank

Flight and maneuverability

Kaisel's defining ability is sustained, high-speed flight. He can cross cities and national battle zones, climb above cloud cover, circle a target, hover while ground forces operate, and change course during an aerial attack. His mobility lets Jinwoo ignore damaged roads, hostile ground formations, and the delays of conventional aircraft (Chapters 36, 41, 51–52).

Transport and battlefield utility

His size and stability allow him to carry Jinwoo with an additional armored soldier or human passenger. This supports several distinct missions: strategic redeployment, reconnaissance from altitude, civilian protection, and emergency medical evacuation. Kaisel's ability to emerge from Jinwoo's shadow means the mount requires no ordinary staging area and can be dismissed when a large flying creature would create panic (Chapters 41, 51, 56, 63).

Shadow traits and limits

Kaisel begins at knight grade and receives the standard advantages of Jinwoo's soldiers: tireless service, storage within shadow, and restoration from damage through the Shadow Monarch's mana. He is not presented as one of the army's strongest direct fighters. His large body can be targeted in the air, passengers constrain evasive movement, and the Dragon King's annihilating breath presents a form of damage from which even a shadow cannot return. Jinwoo therefore uses Kaisel's mobility more often than brute force (Chapters 31, 56, 74).

Relationships

• Jinwoo Sung: Jinwoo extracts, names, and rides Kaisel. Their coordination is largely wordless; Kaisel responds as a trusted mount while Jinwoo protects his value by assigning him where movement matters most.
• Igris: Igris frequently rides or works beside Kaisel and is entrusted with holding Jinho during the flight to the hospital.
• Beru: Beru serves as an independent aerial escort during the Japanese campaign, complementing Kaisel's passenger-carrying role.
• Haein Cha: Haein becomes a willing passenger in both timelines, allowing Kaisel's flight to serve a personal as well as military purpose.
• Iron: Iron retrieves Kaisel's original body, making the wyvern's extraction possible.

Items

Kaisel has no separately named catalog item. Saddles or ordinary riding equipment are not emphasized; his own shadow body is the army's aerial transport asset.
