Haein Cha

Haein Cha is an S-rank swordswoman and vice master of the Hunters Guild. Her unusually sensitive perception first draws her to Jinwoo Sung, but curiosity develops into trust and love through the high-orc dungeon, Jeju Island, the returned Double Dungeon, and the wars that follow.

Biography

The hunter without a foul scent

Haein’s heightened sense of smell makes everyday contact with awakened people unpleasant because their mana carries a powerful foul odor to her. She notices Jinwoo while he is working as a miner in the Hunters Guild’s A-rank gate and is startled that his scent is not merely tolerable but pleasant. The anomaly makes her suspect that the apparently ordinary worker is concealing exceptional mana. (Chapters 22–23)

On a day away from regular raid duty, she follows the disturbance into the high-orc dungeon. Having left her sword behind, she takes a miner’s pickaxe as an improvised weapon and moves through the dungeon quickly enough to reveal that casual equipment does not define her level. She finds vanished monster corpses and then witnesses Jinwoo’s shadow soldiers, gaining direct evidence of a power unlike the roles recognized by conventional hunter teams. (Chapter 25)

Haein does not immediately publicize what she has seen. Her interest is personal and investigative rather than a bid for guild advantage. When Jinwoo is publicly reevaluated as S rank, her earlier observation places her among the few hunters who already understood that the result would be extraordinary. (Chapters 25–27)

Jeju Island

Haein is selected for the Korean strike team sent to kill the Ant Queen. She trains against Japan’s S-rank hunters and enters the nest as one of Korea’s strongest melee fighters. Her speed, sword control, and instinct let her cut through royal guards and pressure the queen at close range while the other hunters coordinate fire. (Chapters 32–34)

Her senses detect the Ant King’s arrival, but warning is not enough to stop it. The creature strikes Haein with overwhelming force and leaves her near death. Conventional healing cannot stabilize her in time, and Jinwoo’s restorative item fails because her remaining life is already below its usable threshold. Jinwoo therefore extracts the recently killed healer Min Byunggu as a shadow and orders him to heal her, temporarily violating his own reluctance to raise human dead in order to save her life. (Chapters 34–36)

The rescue leaves Haein with fragmented awareness of Byunggu’s final warning about the darkness and danger around Jinwoo’s power. Rather than treating the experience as a reason to avoid him, she later tells Jinwoo what she remembers and establishes direct contact with him. The conversation replaces distant curiosity with a more honest personal connection. (Chapter 44)

Entrance test for Ahjin

Haein later asks to leave the Hunters Guild and join Jinwoo’s newly established Ahjin Guild. The request is not financially or professionally obvious: Ahjin is tiny, and her current guild already gives her status, resources, and a senior position. When pressed, she can no longer hide that her interest centers on Jinwoo himself. (Chapters 38–39)

Jinwoo tests her against his shadow soldiers. Haein defeats Igris, showing that a highly trained S-rank swordswoman can overcome one of the army’s strongest early knights. She then asks to face the strongest available soldier, prompting Jinwoo to summon Beru. Haein avoids a rapid sequence of attacks without losing her footing, counters with Sword Dance, and commits her remaining power to Sword of Light. The blade pierces Beru, but the assault triggers his instinctive memory of their living battle; he transforms and nearly kills her before Jinwoo stops him. (Chapter 39)

Haein survives the test and finally admits that she is drawn to Jinwoo. She does not join Ahjin, but the failed transfer succeeds in a more important sense: it forces both of them to recognize that her motive cannot be reduced to guild business. (Chapter 39)

Return to the Double Dungeon

When the Double Dungeon reopens, Haein joins the emergency force entering after the Association’s Surveillance Team. She fights the stone statues with Korea’s other elite hunters and insists on pushing toward Jinwoo even as the dungeon kills or incapacitates those around her. The same decisiveness that once sent her into the high-orc gate with a pickaxe now places her against enemies specifically designed to test the System’s Player. (Chapters 46–48)

Haein is badly injured during the rescue attempt, but survives. The episode deepens her understanding that Jinwoo’s power is tied to conflicts beyond ordinary gates, while also showing that she will not remain outside danger merely because he is stronger than she is. (Chapters 47–48)

Trust, intimacy, and war

Haein continues her work as an S-rank hunter and allows Jinwoo to use the Hunters Guild dungeon for training. Their relationship becomes openly personal when Jinwoo asks her to spend a day with him. They ride amusement-park attractions, and he later carries her through the sky on Kaisel, creating a brief private interval before the Monarch crisis. Haein notices his unease and tries to meet him without forcing an explanation he is not ready to give. (Chapters 61–63)

When the enormous gate appears over Seoul, Haein stands beside Jinwoo with her sword drawn. She recognizes his nervousness even when the rest of the world sees only an invincible defender, and prepares to fight whatever emerges. The gate proves to contain the former Shadow Monarch’s army rather than an attacking force, but her response confirms that intimacy has not made her passive. (Chapter 66)

Haein remains among those who pray and wait while Jinwoo carries the final battle away from Earth. After the Cup of Reincarnation restores the world, she becomes a leading track-and-field athlete rather than a hunter. Jinwoo finds her again, their relationship resumes without the old dungeon system, and she eventually becomes his wife and the mother of their son, Sooho. (Chapters 75–77)

Appearance and personality

Haein is a young Korean woman with a lean, athletic build suited to speed and swordsmanship. Her composed face and clear, focused gaze often make her appear cool or distant in public. In raids she normally wears protective hunting gear and carries a sword; during her improvised high-orc investigation, a cap and miner’s pickaxe replace the usual equipment. (Chapters 22–25, 34)

She is reserved, observant, courageous, and intensely private. Her sensory condition keeps many hunters physically unpleasant to be near, which helps explain both her self-containment and the importance of Jinwoo’s unique scent. Haein follows questions personally instead of gossiping about them, asks to be tested rather than claiming entitlement to Ahjin, and repeatedly enters battles where rank offers no guarantee of survival. Her shyness becomes most visible around her feelings for Jinwoo, but it coexists with directness when a decision matters. (Chapters 22–25, 38–39, 44, 46–48)

Abilities, skills, and rank

Elite S-rank hunter

Haein is one of South Korea’s strongest active hunters and the vice master of its largest guild. Her mana, speed, reflexes, durability, and attack power are high even within S rank. She fights the Ant Queen, defeats Igris in a formal test, survives Beru’s near-fatal outburst, and contributes against the Double Dungeon statues. Monarch-level beings and the living Ant King still exceed what her rank can safely confront alone. (Chapters 30, 34, 39, 47–48)

Sword mastery

Haein’s primary discipline is fast, precise sword combat. She changes angles fluidly, controls distance against much larger enemies, and can turn defense into a rapid counterattack. Her skill remains visible with unfamiliar or improvised equipment, though her true techniques require a proper blade. (Chapters 25, 34, 39)

Sword Dance

Sword Dance is a flowing sequence of accelerating slashes. Against Beru, Haein uses it after avoiding his opening attacks, linking cuts so smoothly that the pressure continues without a simple gap for retaliation. The technique demonstrates coordination and speed rather than one isolated burst. (Chapter 39)

Sword of Light

Sword of Light concentrates Haein’s remaining mana into a luminous, decisive thrust or strike. She treats it as a hidden last resort because its cost leaves little power for continued fighting. It penetrates Beru during the Ahjin test, but does not disable him before his transformed counterattack, showing both its exceptional attack power and its risk against an enemy with superior endurance. Mana scent perception

Haein perceives awakened mana as scent. Most hunters smell foul to her, while Jinwoo’s mana is uniquely pleasant, allowing her to identify that he is different before seeing his full power. The faculty also helps her sense dangerous enemies and concealed magical intensity. It is an excellent warning system, but not a substitute for speed or durability: she detects the Ant King and is still struck down. (Chapters 22–23, 34)

Leadership and composure

As Hunters Guild vice master, Haein has authority and experience in elite raid formations. She remains focused amid surprise, joins national emergency teams without hesitation, and can make independent decisions when ordinary command structures collapse. • Jinwoo Sung: Haein first investigates Jinwoo because his scent differs from every other hunter’s. Shared battles, her Ahjin request, Byunggu’s warning, and their private day together turn curiosity into a relationship that survives the restored timeline and becomes marriage. • Beru: The living Ant King nearly kills Haein on Jeju. As Beru, he becomes the opponent in her hardest entrance test and briefly reverts to lethal instinct when her Sword of Light evokes that first battle. (Chapters 34–35, 39)
