Isrock, the New World, and the Lunar Scourge

The War God lives centuries before the main story, travelling in search of worthy opponents and developing a philosophy that true mastery requires life-and-death ordeals. Near the end of his lifespan, he builds the Hall of Heroic Souls in his home city and stores his power behind a strength trial. Several candidates receive recognition over the following millennium but die attempting it; Ling becomes the first shown successor to survive, accepting a remnant voice and trial rather than meeting the deceased martial artist in person. Heart’s Dream and the First Guild

The War God’s recognition immediately changes how Azure Dragon City’s leaders judge Ling.
