Moonveil

Moonveil, also called Black Moon, is one of Ki Song's seven Transcendent daughters. Her power suppresses another being's Aspect after she draws their blood, making her a dangerous counter to almost any Awakened, while suppressing her own innate powers at the same time. She fights beside Revel throughout the Domain War, later serves the unified Human Domain, and is ultimately brought under Asterion's influence. (Chapters 1856, 1885–1905, 2069–2258, and 2799–2818)

Biography

Black Moon at Vanishing Lake

Moonveil joined Revel, Silent Stalker, and Lonesome Howl in the ambush on Valor's Vanishing Lake expedition. Her opening moonlight arrow cut Nephis, establishing the blood connection that sealed Nephis's Divine Aspect and weakened her Memories. Supported by two Supreme Reflections copying her power, Moonveil isolated the enemy commander and forced a contest of physical strength and swordsmanship. She remained calm and technically skilled, but Nephis's greater body, sword art, and fire Shaping inflicted severe burns and nearly turned the duel against her. (Chapters 1885–1902)

When the Song force lost its initial advantage, Moonveil used a prepared drop of Ki Song's blood. Its wave of Supreme authority overwhelmed shadows, pressured the surviving Sword Saints, and concealed the withdrawal of Moonveil, Revel, their sisters, and their remaining allies. The ambush still killed seven enemy Saints, one credited to Moonveil, but failed to hold the Citadel. Her contribution demonstrates both careful preparation and a willingness to accept grievous wounds for a strategic retreat rather than fight to a hopeless finish. (Chapters 1903–1905)

Sisters in the Spine Ocean

Moonveil accompanied Revel into the Spine Ocean to conquer its Citadel. Their ship was destroyed, their entire crew died, the Call of Nightmare prevented retreat, and seven Sword Saints pursued them with an aquatic force. Moonveil rejected surrender and proposed that they both destroy the pursuing expedition and claim the Citadel. Even when wounded through the abdomen and nearly out of essence, she refused Revel's suggestion that Revel simply stall alone and demanded that her sister survive. (Chapters 1992, 2069, and 2209)

The two sisters used the ocean's monsters and terrain to wear down the enemy, ultimately returning to Godgrave with four Sword Saints dead. Moonveil was later found unconscious and dying during the final battle, but Nephis healed her. Seishan's decision to protect her sisters rather than Ki Song's throne drew Moonveil away from their mother and into Nephis's nascent Domain, turning rescue by a former enemy into the immediate cause of her survival and political realignment. The Human Domain and enthrallment

After the Domain War, Moonveil controlled the Citadel at the estuary of the River of Tears and remained one of the western region's Saint rulers. When Mordret invaded, she fought beside Seishan and the other sisters at the Lake of Tears, helping defend the plateau and Citadel while civilians fled. Before that battle she had already begun questioning whether Asterion's subjects were enemies and whether resisting his Domain justified mass killing, a change Seishan immediately found suspicious. (Chapters 2781, 2799, and 2809–2812)

After the defense collapsed, Moonveil and four sisters revealed that Asterion had taken them. She urged Seishan not to resist, arguing that Asterion was their only hope against Mordret and that Sunny and Nephis had abandoned them. Seishan defeated the sisters but could not kill them, allowing their eventual enthralled assault on the Jade Palace to proceed. Moonveil's latest direct appearance is alive but under a Supreme mental influence; the corpus does not establish how much of her reasoning or affection remains independently her own. (Chapter 2818)

Appearance and personality

Moonveil is a delicate, beautiful woman with a slender build, soft pale face, white hair, and eyes that seem to retain the afterglow of moonlight. She initially wears a modest dress rather than armor, although her bearing lets Rain recognize her as an archer. Battle leaves her badly burned, bloodied, and later close to death, but healing restores her enough to continue fighting. (Chapters 1856, 1891–1903, and 2209–2258)

She often speaks softly and lightly, meeting danger with composure, dry humor, or a sigh. Moonveil is proud of her skill but deeply attached to Revel, refusing to accept a plan that treats her sister's death as an acceptable cost. Her admission that dying beyond Ki Song's reach feels relieving suggests an uneasy relationship with their mother's authority. Later arguments favoring Asterion cannot be separated from his influence and should not be treated as a reliable statement of her uncoerced worldview. Abilities and Aspect

Moonveil is a Saint bearing the lineage of Beast God. The corpus does not reveal the name or Rank of her Aspect, nor does it show a Transcendent form. Its established centerpiece is conditional annulment of another being's Aspect after Moonveil makes the target bleed. She complements that power with excellent archery, polished saber technique, and the physical strength of a Transcendent Beast. (Chapters 1885–1905 and 2568)

Blood-bound suppression

Once Moonveil's attack draws blood, lingering pale radiance in the wound establishes the condition for suppression. The target's Aspect becomes subdued as if it does not exist, and Memory enchantments are weakened as well. Against Nephis, the seal prevents access to her flames but does not stop essence circulation, mundane physical ability, Memory summoning, or learned Sorcery of Names. A later comparison explicitly describes Moonveil's effect as something she can achieve “as long as she made her target bleed,” tying its duration to the wound or blood condition rather than an unrestricted aura. The Ability has meaningful costs and limits. Moonveil cannot use her own Aspect Abilities while maintaining the seal, leaving her dependent on Transcendent physicality, weapons, and training. She isolates one target instead of suppressing the entire expedition, and Nephis judges that Moonveil alone might not be able to contain a Divine Aspect and Titan's soul. Two Supreme Reflections magnify the geas until resistance becomes nearly impossible. These observations establish conditional and scalable suppression, but the exact range, essence cost, number of simultaneous targets, and means of ending it are not disclosed. (Chapters 1891–1892)

Weapons and combat skill

Moonveil is recognized as an archer and opens the Vanishing Lake ambush with a moonlight projectile capable of piercing Transcendent armor and leaving the wound needed for her suppression. The text does not determine whether the arrow is an Aspect effect, a Memory, or both. In close combat she uses a saber with graceful, highly polished technique, angles her guard to redirect greater force, and wounds Nephis repeatedly despite being physically and technically outmatched. Her best results come from preparation, surprise, and allied support rather than a fair isolated duel. (Chapters 1856, 1885–1902, and 2810)

Moonveil also briefly channels a prepared drop of Ki Song's blood. The drop releases the Sovereign's authority as a tide of crimson light strong enough to destroy manifested shadows, strain a Transcendent barrier, and hide the Song force's extraction. This is an inherited item or conduit bestowed by Ki Song, not proof that Moonveil personally commands Supreme blood authority, and the demonstrated use is temporary. (Chapters 1903–1904)

Relationships

• Revel: Revel is Moonveil's principal battlefield partner and the sister whose survival she most openly protects. They ambush Nephis and Sunny together, then endure the Spine Ocean after every subordinate dies. Moonveil refuses to let Revel reduce their plan to a solitary sacrifice, and their cooperation kills four pursuing Saints before they return. (Chapters 1885–1905, 2069, and 2209–2212)
• Seishan: Seishan becomes the sisters' leader after Ki Song's death and helps anchor them in the Human Domain. Moonveil later questions Seishan's opposition to Asterion, then joins the attack meant to force her into the Hunger Domain. Seishan defeats but spares her, preserving their familial bond at the cost of being captured herself. (Chapters 2255–2258, 2781–2799, and 2818)
• Nephis: Moonveil is selected as Nephis's natural counter and nearly kills her after taking away her Aspect. Nephis later saves Moonveil from death and brings her into the Longing Domain, changing them from enemies into ruler and vassal until Asterion's influence compromises that allegiance. • Asterion: Asterion's Hunger Domain gradually alters Moonveil's loyalties. Her defense of his passive subjects precedes open enthrallment, after which she argues that submission is humanity's only hope and helps subdue Seishan.
