Summer Queen

The Summer Queen, also called Ismenios, is the last Red Dragon, the ruler who builds Red Dragon into one of the Tower's dominant clans, and one of the Nine Kings. Jeong-woo's destruction of her Dragon Heart begins the decline that ends in her death, but Yeon-woo later uses her corpse to create the Bone Dragon. The personality that awakens in that body is a post-death branch of Ismenios rather than a restored original soul, preserving the Summer Queen's memories, pride, grudges, and attachments without undoing her death.

Biography

The Last Dragon Builds Red Dragon

As the last surviving member of her draconic race, Ismenios made survival inseparable from sovereignty. She raised Red Dragon around her personal authority, shared portions of her power with the Eighty-One Oculus, and treated the clan's leading children as extensions of the order she had created. Her reign lasted for more than a thousand years and made her a Nine King, but her ambition extended beyond preserving a clan: Allforone remained the obstacle she ultimately wanted to overcome, and the Tower itself was the territory against which she measured a dragon's pride. The Martial King complicated that ambition because his growth transformed an initially avoidable opponent into a rival she could not ignore. Although she respected the One-horned tribe enough to avoid wasteful conflict, she watched its king develop at a speed that threatened the balance among the Tower's rulers. Their hostility diverted attention from Allforone and made personal pride part of strategic judgment. That mixture of calculation and rivalry explains why later clashes with the tribe mattered to her as more than battles between clans: they challenged the supremacy on which Red Dragon depended. A Broken Dragon Heart and a Final Campaign

The decisive wound came from Jeong-woo. Ismenios had once received the descendant of Kalatus cordially, but their relationship deteriorated into a conflict in which Jeong-woo ruined her Dragon Heart and she helped bring about his death. The damaged core forced her away from the higher floors, weakened the magic sustaining Red Dragon, and left her haunted by Jeong-woo's curse and memory. She pursued the Philosopher's Stone because it promised restoration, so the injury affected not only her body but every later choice made to preserve her rule. (Chapters 119–120 and 245)

That need made her vulnerable to Yeon-woo's false Emerald Tablet. Her Draconic Eyes and accumulated knowledge detected reasons for suspicion, yet the worsening crystallization of her Dragon Heart made delay feel more dangerous than deception. The counterfeit briefly seemed to stabilize her before Devil Poison invaded the core and destroyed its circuits. With recovery becoming impossible and Red Dragon's shared power failing with her, she entered the Endless World Night herself, expended strength drawn from her soul, and chose a final campaign rather than allow her enemies to watch her disappear in seclusion. The Queen Falls and the Bone Dragon Rises

In the Endless World Night, the Summer Queen declared the battlefield her territory and fought through a body already blackened and breaking. The Martial King tore apart her wings and limbs and shattered her remaining defenses; Yeon-woo then used the Dragon Killers and Wave of Fire against the openings that battle created. Even her final Breath, Heaven Wing, could not reverse the damage. Her death deprived Red Dragon of the being around whom its authority had been organized, and the clan soon fractured while Yeon-woo retained both her corpse and captured soul. Death did not produce an ordinary resurrection. Yeon-woo interrogated Ismenios's captured soul and ultimately absorbed it as nourishment for his own, erasing the original Summer Queen as an independent soul. Separately, Brahm, Boo, Henova, and their workers processed the poisoned draconic corpse into the Bone Dragon. When a recognizable Ismenios later awakened through that body, the narrative described her as a husk and a branch from the same root: a vestige carrying continuity of character, not the return of the soul Yeon-woo had consumed. Old Enemies Meet Beneath One Darkness

The vestige first displayed its full identity during Yeon-woo's confrontation with Allforone. The Bone Dragon's fear, Breath, laws, and familiar manner made Jeong-woo recognize Ismenios, while her hatred of Allforone gave her an aim independent of simple obedience. Jeong-woo offered forgiveness and asked for her help despite the history between them. His response exposed the attachment that had survived their enmity, but it did not erase the harm between them or restore her old life; she continued as a proud, uneasy ally within Yeon-woo's darkness. That alliance always retained friction. Unlike a tightly controlled familiar, the Bone Dragon could reject commands and use the Black King's power to arrive or depart by her own choice. She guarded Laputa, studied Kalatus's remains, and intervened when Yeon-woo endangered himself while saving Phante, yet she called such aid a whim rather than loyalty. Her freedom made her less efficient as a weapon, but it also demonstrated that the personality inside the skeleton could form new judgments instead of merely replaying the Summer Queen's stored combat habits. A Queen Without a Throne

Without her former body, soul, clan, or throne, Ismenios became more detached from the position she once defended, but not from every responsibility it had created. She helped the Monkey King exuviae refine the Eight Extremes of Sword Thunder and continued fighting because defeating Allforone, recovering Jeong-woo, and reaching some answer for her past remained worthwhile. Her encounter with Waltz revealed the emotional cost of that distance: she fought a former child of Red Dragon with her old fear and flame, but hesitated at the end and showed grief that her arrogant indifference could not fully conceal. The Bone Dragon later carried the Summer Queen's wrath into the campaigns against Allforone and the forces threatening Yeon-woo's world. This did not restore Red Dragon or reconcile every surviving child; it gave the queen's remaining will a purpose after she had surrendered her former station. Her latest direct action in the supplied corpus occurs when she attacks the Perished Gods with Kalatus, releasing Breath as part of Yeon-woo's side. Appearance and personality

In life, the Summer Queen could assume both human and dragon forms. Her natural human presentation was associated with fiery red hair, a visible emblem of the power flowing from her Dragon Heart, although she used blue hair while concealing her weakened condition. Her dying dragon body had blackened scales, ragged wings, and severe physical damage. As a captured soul she appeared with long translucent hair and sharp eyes; as the Bone Dragon she is an enormous skeleton with purple light in its eye sockets, while the vestige can also present a black-haired or black-and-red-haired human likeness. Ismenios is proud, imperious, and accustomed to treating fear as the natural response to a dragon. Her strategic intelligence allows patience and political calculation, but threats to her Dragon Heart make that control give way to desperation, and insult can turn a practical rivalry into an enduring grudge. After death she becomes more candidly indifferent to rank and legacy, yet her actions continue to reveal attachment to Jeong-woo, sorrow for Red Dragon's children, respect for Kalatus, and an unwillingness to watch Yeon-woo destroy himself for his companions. She conceals those ties beneath mockery and threats because emotional distance is the last form of sovereignty still available to her. (Chapters 223–225, 238, 403, 408, 457, 538, and 621)

Abilities and powers

The Summer Queen's living power originated in a draconic body and Dragon Heart, then changed fundamentally after her corpse became the Bone Dragon. Her post-death vestige can reproduce important dragon techniques through the skeleton and Yeon-woo's darkness, but the original soul and biological core are gone. Consequently, later feats should not be read as proof that every living faculty, reserve, or vulnerability was restored unchanged. (Chapters 223–225, 260–261, 401–403, and 446)

Dragon Heart, Draconic Factors, and physical forms

The Dragon Heart was the core of Ismenios's magic circulation and the source represented by her characteristic red hair. It sustained her enormous dragon form, human transformation, elemental power, and the authority distributed through Red Dragon. Jeong-woo's damage caused the heart to crystallize and forced her to lower floors; the false tablet and Devil Poison then damaged its circuits and Draconic Factors beyond recovery. She could compensate by drawing power from her soul, but doing so accelerated her destruction rather than repairing the underlying organ. (Chapters 119–120, 223–225, and 237)

The Bone Dragon is built from her treated corpse rather than healed living tissue. Darkness and purple energy occupy functions once served by flesh and the Dragon Heart, allowing its skeleton to move, fly, withstand catastrophic damage, and reconstruct destroyed portions while supported by Yeon-woo's power. This recovery is conditional: it belongs to the undead body and its connection to darkness, not to the original dragon's biological regeneration. Draconic Eyes, knowledge, and law

Draconic Eyes combine perception with the inherited knowledge of dragonkind. Ismenios could inspect magic, alchemical structures, flaws, and the truth behind constructed phenomena; after death, she could still interpret Kalatus's legacy and advise beings attempting to complete difficult martial or magical developments. Dragons also express knowledge as law, allowing her to establish local rules that reinforce her attacks, restrict enemies, or support allies within a claimed field. These faculties made her valuable even when brute strength was not the decisive resource. (Chapters 223–224, 237, 399–402, 437, and 533–540)

Neither sight nor knowledge is omniscience. The false tablet offered enough plausible structure to survive initial inspection, and Ismenios's urgent desire to repair her heart overrode the doubts her analysis produced. Established laws can also be contested or destroyed by a stronger authority such as Allforone. Her later expertise remains broad, but the corpus does not show the Bone Dragon recovering every store of living draconic knowledge independently of the vestige, its preserved memories, and what can be accessed through Yeon-woo's darkness. Breath, fire, and dragon magic

Breath is the Summer Queen's defining direct attack: concentrated draconic power is released over a wide area with enough force to erase formations and challenge divine enemies. Her living repertoire also included Hell Fire, Meteor Strike, Wind Whip, Heaven Wing, Blink, barriers, and simultaneous high-level magic. Different circumstances give the Bone Dragon's Breath fiery, cursed, or acidic properties, reflecting both the corpse's poisoning and the power available through darkness. She continues to use Breath in her latest battle alongside Kalatus. (Chapters 237–244, 398–402, 446, 621, and 751)

These spells draw on reserves and a functioning power structure rather than existing without cost. The dying Ismenios consumed her own soul to force magic through her damaged body, while the Bone Dragon relies on its reconstructed frame and the darkness that restores it. Martial force can interrupt casting by destroying wings, limbs, or posture, and superior law can cut through Breath or disperse its result. Dragon Fear, territory, and distributed authority

Dragon Fear imposes the instinctive pressure of a superior draconic existence upon weaker minds and bodies. Combined with a territorial declaration, it lets Ismenios turn a battlefield into a dragon's domain and amplify the laws and magic she uses there. In Red Dragon, her authority was also distributed through blood and power shared with the Eighty-One Oculus and the Nine Dragon Sons. This arrangement made the clan formidable but tied its stability to her condition, because their borrowed power ultimately originated from the queen. (Chapters 225, 237, and 621)

The connection could be reclaimed, severed, or disrupted, and an injury to a major child reverberated through the structure. After her death, that centralized order collapsed instead of transferring intact to the Bone Dragon. The vestige can still release Dragon Fear and establish laws, but it does not resume administrative control over Red Dragon or compel its surviving children to return. Its later territory, identified through the Binah property, operates within the post-death framework around Yeon-woo rather than reconstituting her former clan sovereignty. Autonomous vestige and latest state

The Bone Dragon's Ismenios retains memories, emotions, combat judgment, and the capacity to refuse Yeon-woo, giving her substantially more freedom than a conventional familiar. Black King's power permits her to emerge from or withdraw into darkness, and damage can be repaired while that support remains available. She can cooperate with other familiars and dragons, advise allies, and pursue motives that overlap with Yeon-woo's without being identical to his. Her aid against Allforone and the Perished Gods is therefore chosen through a continuing personality rather than issued by a simple command script. (Chapters 403, 408, 446, 538, 648, and 751)

That continuity has a firm limit: Yeon-woo absorbed and erased the original independent soul, and the later Ismenios explicitly exists without an ordinary physical body or soul. The vestige recognizes the possibility of taking advantage of a future opportunity, but no supplied chapter shows her completing a true resurrection.
