Oceanus

Oceanus is Uranus's eldest adopted son, the first commander among the future Titans, and a god whose domain is the primitive sea. Although once favored to inherit Olympus, he withdraws from its throne and eventually joins Yvlke's effort to create a permanent safe haven for beings left behind by destroyed dreams.

Biography

The eldest walks into the Great Chasm

As commander of Uranus's children, Oceanus leads an expedition to the Great Chasm despite fearing its neither-order-nor-chaos power, believing the eldest must demonstrate courage first. When darkness seizes Kronos, he cuts it with an ice blade, catches his brother, and raises a barrier against the creatures that emerge. His conduct establishes sincere protectiveness rather than succession theater; after later losing political ground in Theia's coup, he renounces the throne and supports Kronos and Rhea instead. Other dreams turn protection into coercion

Oceanus grows up carrying memories from many unrelated Oceanuses whose dreams have already vanished, even though their souls and identities are distinct from his own. Hoping to prevent another ending, he studies successor candidates marked by darkness and spares young Kronos rather than murdering a possible threat. Yvlke later redirects that protective impulse toward a separate safe haven; Oceanus consequently recruits by force, overwhelmingly defeats Vimalacitra, scars his spirit, and confines him on Earth when he refuses to join. The primitive sea collapses

Oceanus tries the same recruitment on the Resident of the Border and suffers spirit wounds close to annihilation when the offer becomes a fight. Still injured, he blocks Yeon-woo near Li's tomb and opens the Vast Open Sea, but Yeon-woo's sword thunder overwhelms him until the illusory world and the legends sustaining his existence begin to break apart. Yeon-woo then yields the final fight to Vimalacitra's avenger, Cernunnos, who defeats Oceanus; later reports say Oceanus disappears afterward. Appearance and personality

Oceanus appears as a humanoid man with a gentle smile, a calm manner, and a sword hanging at his waist. His later injuries are concealed well enough that he looks unharmed externally, but analysis reveals that his spirit body is covered in wounds and holds far less divine power than before his battle with the Resident of the Border.

He is patient, soothing, and sincerely caring toward Kronos, yet the memories of vanished worlds leave him detached from his own reality and preoccupied with preventing its end. He prefers persuasion and speaks with regret when rejected, but his compassion becomes coercive: he is willing to scar, imprison, or drag away those who refuse his proposed refuge. Abilities and powers

Oceanus's divine domain is the primitive sea, the origin-sea of divine beings and living creatures. His illusory world, The Vast Open Sea, replaces the surroundings with endless blue water and is sustained by his essential being. Within and outside it, he demonstrates refined swordsmanship, powerful divine force, and water-derived ice construction, forming blades and defensive walls quickly enough to protect Kronos. Damage to Oceanus's legends destabilizes the domain, so it collapses as Yeon-woo breaks the existence maintaining it. (Chapters 563–565 and 774)

His inherited cross-dream memories provide knowledge of recurring ends, Executors, Opponents, and people marked by darkness. They also accelerate his growth, but they are testimony from separate beings, not proof that the current Oceanus is literally every prior Oceanus. In particular, Leviathan is an Oceanus from a lost dream who evolved into a beast; the scoped text distinguishes that soul from the present one. Oceanus's latest battle also establishes practical limits: the Resident nearly annihilates him, Yeon-woo overwhelms his damaged state, and Cernunnos finishes the conflict. Relationships

• Kronos: Oceanus protects his youngest brother, gives up the contest for Olympus's throne, and watches him rather than killing a possible bearer of darkness.
• Uranus: Uranus adopts Oceanus as his eldest successor candidate and appoints him to command the expedition into the Great Chasm.
• Rhea: Rhea's resistance to Theia helps preserve Oceanus's life, and he later supports her and Kronos after withdrawing from succession.
• Yvlke: Yvlke persuades Oceanus to pursue a permanent safe haven and uses his strength to recruit or confine potential members.
• Vimalacitra: Oceanus defeats and binds him after he rejects recruitment, creating the grievance that eventually brings Cernunnos against Oceanus.
