Metatron

Metatron is Malach's leader and one of the ancient representatives of Day. A celestial scribe as well as a combatant, he preserves the long struggle against Night through revelation, institutional command, and carefully chosen successors. His measured conduct often contrasts with the sharper temper of Michael or Baal, but that restraint does not prevent him from taking the field when the balance between worlds fails.

Biography

An ancient steward of Day

Metatron fought beside Baal and Uranus in the old conflict between Day and Night, using Malach's light and his own blades against otherworldly gods. Repeated cycles gradually exhausted the divine laws that sustained Day, leaving its surviving leaders as worn shells rather than the powers they had once been. Because direct victory had become impossible, Metatron's responsibility shifted from defeating Night himself to preserving the order long enough for a viable successor to emerge. Caution, revelation, and Malach's losses

As Yeon-woo's rise destabilized the heavenly world, Metatron led Malach through observation and guarded contact rather than immediate commitment. Gabriel carried messages, the changing Book of Enoch supplied revelations, and Metatron pressed Yeon-woo for answers while remaining alert to his dangerous connection with the Black King. This caution was shaped by earlier failure: Metatron had trusted his right-hand man Luciel with a Li Fragment, and Luciel's fall eventually cost Malach one of the foundations of its old leadership. Passing the balance onward

Metatron and Baal ultimately chose Jeong-woo to inherit Day's place, judging that his character could preserve an order their failing generation could no longer maintain. Later accounts describe Malach struggling after the consecutive loss of Metatron and Michael, yet Metatron appears again in future-facing side-story events, sends a message concerning the Heavenly Demon and Black King, and descends for Yeon-woo's wedding. There, only a trace of his old power remains, but he still accepts Yeon-woo's informal request with the ease of an elder ally. (Chapters 741, 748, 794, 850–854)

Appearance and personality

Metatron appears as a composed, dignified celestial who wears glasses and manifests white wings. In battle he can draw twin swords and surround himself with rays of light and rainbow-like brilliance; outside combat, small gestures such as adjusting his glasses or scratching his head soften the formality of Malach's leader. He is deliberate, observant, and more inclined to test a situation than to answer it emotionally. Metatron can apply intimidating pressure when he needs information, but he also negotiates, communicates through intermediaries, and accepts changing circumstances without clinging to ceremony. His willingness to select a mortal successor shows that preserving Day's purpose matters more to him than preserving his own position. (Chapters 509–512, 602–603, 741)

Abilities and powers

Celestial light and swordsmanship

Metatron commands Malach's holy light, manifests white wings, and fights directly with twin swords. His radiance can be used offensively or to support a larger defense, as when he and Baal descend to reinforce the barrier protecting Yeon-woo's forces. Michael is nevertheless described as possibly superior in raw physical power, so Metatron's leadership does not imply that he is Malach's strongest close-range fighter in every respect. The Book of Enoch and celestial administration

As the celestial scribe, Metatron is associated with the Book of Enoch, whose changing passages communicate revelations and allow him to warn or direct Yeon-woo. He also commands Malach's angels and coordinates divine beings during crises. These functions provide information and organized force rather than perfect foresight: Metatron still watches events unfold, asks Yeon-woo for explanations, and must act on revelations whose meaning is not automatically complete. Declining divine law

Metatron's greatest limit is historical attrition. Day's power was assimilated into the laws of the world, while repeated cycles wore down the beings who maintained it. By the later side stories, Yeon-woo judges that Metatron possesses only a tiny portion of his ancient strength. He can still communicate, descend, and lend support, but those acts should not be treated as a restoration of the force he wielded during the primordial war. (Chapters 689, 730, 854)

Relationships

• Baal: Baal is Metatron's counterpart from L'Infernal and his fellow steward of Day. They fight together, preserve the balance together, and jointly choose Jeong-woo as their successor despite their societies' opposition.
• Uranus: Uranus is Metatron's old comrade in the war against Night. Their surviving friendship is visible when Yeon-woo later treats Metatron and Baal as part of Uranus' old circle.
• Yeon-woo: Metatron initially observes and questions Yeon-woo because of his connection to the Black King, then aids his coalition and later answers his wedding invitation as an elder ally.
• Jeong-woo: Metatron and Baal select Jeong-woo to inherit Day's place, entrusting him with the balance their own generation can no longer carry.
• Michael: Michael is Malach's leading warrior beneath Metatron. Michael's greater physical force complements Metatron's authority, and his loss compounds the society's decline.
