Biography

A director under mounting pressure

Klus begins his tenure presiding over an emergency meeting of the Twelve Zodiacs, rubbing his temples and regretting the responsibility he accepted. Although he and Diablo are counted among the Bureau's strongest High Guardians, the director's work is administrative as well as martial. Klus coordinates responses to the cave collapse and accepts responsibility for the causality required when Tarneck intervenes. Tarneck then spends more than Klus can safely support, fatally cracking his vessel and demonstrating that even the director's authorization has a measurable ceiling. Yvlke reveals the rebellion

The emergencies prove to be preparation for an insurrection. Yvlke enters the director's office with Diablo and other collaborators, and Klus realizes that the apparent disasters were designed to exhaust or distract the Bureau before the coup. He is removed from power, but his precautions survive him: Hayang later escapes through an emergency passage Klus prepared and carries the final key needed to reach the Tower system's source code.
