Laplace

Laplace is the rabbit of the Central Bureau's Twelve Zodiacs and a king of the Demonic Sea whose appetite for novelty repeatedly drives him across institutional boundaries. After becoming a player and opposing Yeon-woo, he is defeated and absorbed into Yeon-woo's shadow, where his erratic curiosity develops into a practical commitment to the Cha family.

Biography

A Guardian who crossed the line

Laplace takes over the eleventh-floor trial because Yeon-woo interests him, then uses his administrative access to deliver a demonic warning and clear Yeon-woo's route toward the Platform Three Goddesses. His interference goes beyond a Guardian's required neutrality, and the investigation following Agares' descent identifies him as the official most responsible. The Central Bureau consequently removes him from office and treats his rule-breaking as a warning to other High Guardians. (Chapters 78–124, 210, 266)

Freedom from the Demonic Sea

Imprisonment in the Cave of Yaaneck reveals that Laplace had tried to steal a player's system qualification because he wanted freedom from both Bureau rules and the Demonic Sea where he was born. Yeon-woo's intrusion creates the opening he needs: the system recognizes Laplace as a player, he releases his immense true body, destroys the pursuing Guardians, and lets his unwitting rescuer depart with a Tutorial ticket before joining the rebellion against the Bureau. From dangerous spectator to family guardian

Laplace later attacks the Psychic Medium for her Inner Eye and initially fights Yeon-woo on the Sea of Time's side, motivated less by doctrine than by the chance to watch history change. Yeon-woo defeats and devours him, converting that flexible allegiance into service from his shadow. Laplace thereafter fights beside the familiars, protects Sesha on Earth, and embraces Rhea's request that he guard the family, even officiating Yeon-woo and Edora's wedding. Appearance and personality

As a Guardian, Laplace appears as a formally dressed white rabbit with red eyes. His later humanoid manifestation is a tall, bald, copper-skinned man with an exaggerated muscular build, bare torso, and long rabbit ears; his true body is an enormous, many-eyed otherworld creature surrounded by mist and tentacles. Laplace is theatrical, intrusive, and openly driven by entertainment. He laughs through danger, treats pain with disconcerting pleasure, and readily changes sides when a more interesting course appears. That instability does not prevent attachment: after joining Yeon-woo, he takes Sesha's safety seriously, controls otherwise catastrophic force around her, and responds with genuine emotion when Rhea values his well-being. Otherworld body and Illusory Change

Laplace is a king of the Demonic Sea and later the successor to the divine seat once held by the Lord of the Pole. True Body Release expands his humanoid vessel into a colossal otherworld form whose hands and tentacles can tear through bodies, souls, space, and causal structure. His bodily fluid carries chaos potent enough to erode existence. The scale is not cost-free: using the system subjects him to causality, and sufficiently concentrated attacks can damage or dismember even his true form. (Chapters 482, 637–638, 721, 745)

Illusory Change rewrites local physical conditions instead of merely creating visual deception. In the Demonic Sea, Laplace restores destroyed terrain and creatures; as a High Guardian, he combines the power with emergency authority to reshape an entire floor into a demonic environment and summon its monsters. The technique can be resisted by greater authority or overwhelming force, and Yeon-woo's attacks repeatedly cut through its altered space before Laplace completes his objective. System expertise and shadow service

Centuries as a top administrator give Laplace detailed knowledge of trials, hidden stages, code, and system keys. He can transfer the Psychic Medium's Inner Eye as data, guide Yeon-woo through restricted spaces, and explain how Guardian keys operate. Once devoured, he manifests through Yeon-woo's or Sesha's shadow, lends fire and otherworld force to Yeon-woo's attacks, and can divide his power between combat and protecting nearby civilians. His later service remains dependent on that shadow relationship rather than an independently described resurrection method. (Chapters 625, 639–642, 732, 826–835)

Relationships

• Yeon-woo: Laplace first assists Yeon-woo as an interested Guardian, later attacks his allies and becomes his enemy, and finally accepts service after Yeon-woo defeats and absorbs him.
• Sesha: Laplace lives in Sesha's shadow as an intrusive but capable guard. Their banter is abrasive, yet he protects her from threats and helps her distinguish harmless spirits from a genuine danger.
• Rhea: Rhea treats Laplace's safety as part of the family's welfare. Her warmth moves him to promise lasting loyalty and continued protection.
• Yvlke: Yvlke encourages Laplace's break with the Bureau and commands him during the Sea of Time's campaign, but Laplace admits that fascination, rather than ideological loyalty, governs his choices.
• Hanryeong: Hanryeong nearly loses his body and nine swords while delaying Laplace's attempt to finish stealing the Psychic Medium's Inner Eye.
