Starhair

Starhair is a peak B-Grade Church Envoy whose star-like hair lets him manipulate spacetime. He begins as Jack’s openly disdainful escort, but repeated battles and shared danger turn the rivalry into an uneasy friendship, while his own loyalties draw him into the Church’s final war. (Chapters 466–555)

Biography

A Rivalry on the Death Boat

Starhair meets Jack while they travel with Elder Boatman. He has already judged Jack as an undeserving favorite of powerful sponsors: during Brock’s breakthrough, Starhair dismisses his growth as the product of Boatman’s resources and predicts that borrowed advantages will fail. Jack’s extraordinary result proves him wrong, leaving Starhair pale and Min Ling delighted. Their friction sharpens when Starhair mocks Jack as a champion, but Jack answers with a challenge to explain the cultivation path he claims Jack does not understand. Starhair has no convincing answer; he is irritated by Jack, but also forced to face that their differing strength does not prove his assumptions. (Chapters 466, 470–471, 476–478)

The Church assigns Starhair to assist Jack and Brock despite his protests. He had come to the New Cathedral to train, and says openly that he still despises Jack, yet he accepts the assignment and treats Elder Boatman with careful deference. In the Space Monster World, that reluctant escort proves useful: Starhair recognizes a dangerous spacetime specialist, restrains his own impulsiveness long enough to coordinate with Jack and Brock, and then uses his starry hair to cut into the wounded monster. The fight begins to replace his contempt with practical respect. He also shares the spoils of a space-monster core with Brock and Jack, though his own peak B-Grade leaves him no room to advance from absorbing it. (Chapters 479, 481, 484–486)

From Hostility to Fellowship

Starhair’s pride is tested again when Brock challenges him to a duel. He believes the early B-Grade has no chance against him, but Brock’s relentless palm strikes prevent him from escaping by teleportation. Starhair turns his hair into a shield and absorbs the impacts, then releases enough energy to pulverize the planet’s core and transform into a ten-foot humanoid made of starry hair. The transformation does not reverse the fight: Brock continues to overwhelm him, and Starhair ultimately concedes. His loss makes clear that his standing at peak B-Grade is not a guarantee against a different path’s strengths, especially when he underestimates his opponent. (Chapters 490–492)

The Church later sends Starhair with Jack and Brock into the Space Monster World as their assistant and escort. During the escape from Archon Summer Noon, Starhair sacrifices half his hair to buy the others time; his injuries are severe, and he hides the damage under a bandana while it slowly grows back. The ordeal changes how he responds to Jack. He remains anxious and gruff, but he watches over Jack during a dangerous attempt to absorb a vast core, rushes to him when he hears his cries, and later fights beside him in the Dark Canal. Starhair watches Jack divide captured cores and receives those compatible with him, accepting the gesture rather than treating Jack as an enemy. Their friendship becomes recognized by the other disciples, even as Starhair retains his dry complaints and his pride. (Chapters 500–520, 523–530)

The Church’s Last Stand

Starhair stays close to Jack and Brock through the Great Silver expedition and the approaching war. In private, he confides that the possibility of survival frightens him: he believes they are near a major change, but worries that a single battle may decide the universe’s future. His worry is bound to the people he has come to care about, including Strawpin and his former rivals. Their closeness becomes openly affectionate when he wraps an arm around her and tells her that every world is beautiful because hers had her. (Chapters 540, 550)

During the Second Crusade, Starhair, Strawpin, and Fiend Prince are sent to support Heavenly Spoon and Min Ling. They help hold the front within Brock’s formation while facing enemies whose power far exceeds theirs. Starhair’s role has shifted from deriding Jack’s rise to trusting him and standing beside the Church’s younger cultivators. He is present in that battle when Jack arrives with a decisive victory; the last direct account leaves Starhair fighting with the Church’s forces. (Chapters 554–555)

Appearance and personality

Starhair is a male cultivator with luminous hair resembling rivers or branches of stars. In combat, it can separate into thick strands that glow like a galaxy. After his duel with Brock, he manifests as a tall humanoid composed of starry hair, and after sacrificing half of it against Archon Summer Noon, he covers the injuries with a bandana while the hair grows back. During the final war he wears white armor beneath the veil of his former robes. (Chapters 466, 481, 492, 509, 513, 551)

He is proud, quick to judge, and sarcastic, but also capable of courage and loyalty. He initially treats Jack as an unearned favorite, then keeps helping him even while complaining about the assignment. He worries about the war and admits his fear rather than pretending to be fearless. His bond with Strawpin is affectionate and reciprocal; their conversation treats their relationship as a shared love life, though no formal status is given. (Chapters 476, 484, 500, 550, 555)

Abilities and cultivation

Starhair is a peak B-Grade cultivator and a spacetime specialist. He uses his star-like hair as both an extension of his power and a medium for spatial manipulation. His hair’s origin and the full limits of his spacetime arts remain unknown. (Chapters 466, 481, 486)

Starry hair and spacetime combat

Starhair can divide his hair into six glowing strands that orbit above his head like a galaxy. The strands generate an aura that holds back an A-Grade space monster’s area attacks; he can lengthen them into blades and spin them like a saw to cut through the creature’s head. In his duel with Brock, he gathers his hair into a shield that absorbs impacts and reflects them back. He also uses teleportation to evade attacks, although Brock’s sustained pressure catches him partway through a portal and prevents his escape. (Chapters 481, 492)

When driven hard, Starhair can detonate part of his energy and form a larger body of starry hair, increasing his defensive mass and destructive force. Half of his hair is lost when he sacrifices it to delay Archon Summer Noon’s attack, but he remains conscious and mobile; the missing hair is visibly regrowing several months later. Later, in the Dark Canal, he fights alongside Jack and Brock as a peak B-Grade. The available demonstrations establish strong spatial and defensive techniques, but not the exact mechanism or cost of his hair-based transformations. (Chapters 492, 502, 509, 513, 519)

Potion-granted Double Devil disguise

Starhair takes a transformation potion during the Space Monster World expedition and assumes the form of a Double Devil to pass among its inhabitants. The potion cannot be removed or changed after use, and the disguise remains effective through combat and exertion unless he meets an Archon face-to-face. Its eventual duration is not stated; it is potion-granted, not an innate species change. Starhair’s half-grown-back hair remains visible beneath the disguise. (Chapters 503–504, 509, 513)

Relationships

  • Jack Rust: Starhair begins as a resentful critic of Jack’s success and is assigned to help him. Shared danger, Jack’s generosity with compatible cores, and Starhair’s continued service turn the hostility into a friendship recognized by others. (Chapters 466–486, 500–530)
  • Brock: Starhair’s antagonism toward Jack leads Brock to treat him warily, but Brock defeats him in a duel and later fights beside him. They become companions in the Church’s expeditions. (Chapters 479, 490–492, 500–555)
  • Strawpin: Starhair’s affection becomes open during their conversation about the future, and they comfort one another as the war approaches. (Chapters 550, 555)
  • Elder Boatman: Starhair treats Boatman as a respected superior and relies on his protection during travel. (Chapters 479–480, 483)
