Zhou Ru
Zhou Ru is a village-born girl raised for much of her childhood by Wang Lin. Although her body initially carries Li Muwan's Nascent Soul, Zhou Ru develops as a separate person; Li Muwan refuses to devour her soul, and Wang ultimately preserves both lives. (Chapters 340–410)
Biography
The child in Apricot Village
Zhou Ru is born weak in old Zhou's household after Wang has placed Li Muwan's Nascent Soul inside the unborn child. Wang intended the body to provide a path for Li Muwan's return, but the fetus develops its own soul before the plan can be completed. As a toddler Zhou Ru is quiet, surrounded by spiritual energy, with open meridians and a purple aura that attracts a passing cultivator's attention. Wang rescues her and becomes the “uncle” she trusts, while she first learns to call her mortal parents father and mother. (Chapters 340 and 356–357)
Wang takes responsibility for her upbringing and gives her a bell with which to summon him. By ten, Zhou Ru is lively enough to bully Little White, the Foundation Establishment demonic tiger assigned as her companion, and to complain about feeding the woman in Wang's pagoda. Tie Yan and other powerful guardians make her childhood unusually safe, but she treats them with a child's familiarity rather than awe. Wang watches her grow while still hoping that the sleeping Nascent Soul will awaken. (Chapters 359–360 and 404)
Two souls, two lives
At thirteen, Zhou Ru dreams of and senses the “little person” inside her. She gradually understands that Wang sometimes looks at her while seeing someone else and asks him to remove the presence because she is afraid. By fifteen she also understands that its growth may kill her. Little White retrieves a fruit capable of shattering the Nascent Soul, but Zhou Ru refuses to use it: she wants Wang to be reunited with Li Muwan even if the price is her own life. Her choice is compassionate, yet the underlying condition was never hers to choose or control. (Chapters 404–407)
When Zhou Ru is nineteen, Li Muwan begins to awaken and the heavens' messenger arrives. Li Muwan refuses to complete the process by devouring the girl she has watched grow, pushes Zhou Ru's soul safely out of the body, and asks Wang not to blame her. Wang places Li Muwan's Nascent Soul in the heaven-defying bead and then returns Zhou Ru's independent soul to its body. He erases her memories of the crisis so she can live without its burden. Zhou Ru wakes as herself; the two women survive separately. (Chapters 407–409)
For the following year, Zhou Ru searches the moon for the uncle who cannot yet bear to face her. Wang secretly protects and nourishes her through a mosquito beast and periodic spiritual energy, then reunites with her when she is twenty and takes her home. The resolution transforms their bond: she is no longer a vessel in his plans, and he accepts that what remains living should be allowed to live. (Chapters 409–410)
Cultivation and return to family
Zhou Ru begins cultivation after returning to Suzaku, reaching the second layer of Qi Condensation within about a year. Wang returns her to her parents and leaves a sealed bag for her to open if she reaches Nascent Soul. She later advances to Core Formation and receives invitations, gifts, and protection from the cultivators of Mount Suzaku. Her desire to reach Nascent Soul is tied as much to opening Wang's gift as to power. (Chapters 469–470 and 611)
Much later, Zhou Ru becomes Mu Bingmei's disciple in the Brilliant Void Realm. Wang retrieves her during the cave world's final upheavals, and Mu Bingmei gives her a jade hairpin before she enters the new Rain Celestial Realm. She searches for Wang with Situ Nan and remains in his family circle, still treated by Wang as the child he raised even after centuries have passed. (Chapters 1040–1041, 1122–1124, 1534, and 1716)
Mortal reincarnation
After the cave world's cycle changes, Zhou Ru chooses a mortal life with her parents rather than immediately resuming cultivation. Little White is reincarnated beside her as a dog. Dreams carry traces of their former lives, but Wang refuses to force an awakening; he leaves the memories sealed unless Zhou Ru one day pursues that path for herself. The Seven Dao Sect's returning memories will eventually stir among the cave souls, yet her current mortal identity remains a life she is allowed to experience on its own terms. Appearance and personality
Zhou Ru is beautiful and quiet as a small child, later becoming lively, wild, and expressive. She pouts at Wang, commands Little White, and approaches danger with confidence born partly from knowing hidden protectors will arrive. Her most important trait is empathy: as a teenager she is willing to die for the woman inside her, while Li Muwan answers that compassion by sparing her. As an adult she remains affectionate and stubborn, insisting on accompanying familiar elders rather than passively accepting separation. (Chapters 356–359, 404–409, 611, and 1534)
Abilities and cultivation
Natural aptitude and cultivation progression
Zhou Ru is born with spiritual energy circulating through fully open meridians and a visible purple aura. The corpus does not determine whether this aptitude is intrinsically hers or affected by Li Muwan's presence, so it should not be assigned exclusively to either soul. After the separation, Zhou Ru can cultivate normally: she reaches second-layer Qi Condensation within roughly a year and later Core Formation. She studies at Mount Suzaku and under Mu Bingmei in the Brilliant Void Realm, but no later precise realm or named combat technique is established. (Chapters 356, 469–470, 611, and 1040–1124)
Nascent-Soul hosting
Carrying Li Muwan's Nascent Soul is a condition, not Zhou Ru's ability. The sleeping soul draws nourishment from her body and eventually begins to devour her own soul as it awakens. A Nascent-Soul-shattering fruit could stop the process by destroying Li Muwan, but Zhou Ru refuses it. The actual separation succeeds only because Li Muwan pushes Zhou Ru's soul out, Wang stores Li Muwan in the heaven-defying bead, and Wang then restores Zhou Ru. Its mechanics therefore depend on three separate actors and demonstrate a lethal limit rather than transferable power. (Chapters 404–409)
Protection and external treasures
Many feats of survival around Zhou Ru come from guardians. Little White, Tie Yan, Wang's mosquito beast, Mount Suzaku cultivators, and later elite patrons protect her or give her life-saving items. Wang's bell summons help, his hidden spiritual energy prevents hunger on the moon, and the sealed bag is conditional on reaching Nascent Soul. None of these protections prove equivalent offensive strength in Zhou Ru herself. Her demonstrated advancement is real, but the corpus deliberately distinguishes her own cultivation from the network of adults and treasures surrounding her. Reincarnation and sealed memory
In the late story Zhou Ru lives as a mortal reincarnation with previous-life memories sealed. She receives dreams and may eventually awaken broader memories, especially with Little White nearby, but Wang leaves the choice contingent on her own future desire. Reincarnation does not preserve an explicitly stated combat realm, and the returning Seven Dao Sect memories are a world-level restoration affecting many cave souls. For Zhou Ru, the process chiefly preserves continuity of identity without cancelling the mortal life she has chosen. (Chapters 2067–2071 and 2081)
