Yunque Zi
Yunque Zi is Zhuque Zi's junior apprentice brother, the Forsaken Immortal Clan's second ancestor, and the architect of a plan to control Suzaku through a chosen successor rather than destroy the planet. His patronage helps Wang Lin advance, but his attempt to use Wang Lin inside the Suzaku Tomb exposes the coercion beneath that support. (Chapters 391–472 and 1572)
Biography
Four candidates and a hidden identity
Yunque Zi spends years inside the cultivator order while concealing his position in the Forsaken Immortal Clan. He loses the contest for the title of Suzaku to Zhuque Zi, becomes the reigning Suzaku's junior apprentice brother, and quietly selects four candidates who might inherit the title. Wang Lin is one of them. Yunque Zi gives him a restriction-filled straw hat, influences Du Tian's assistance, and expects the Soul Refining Sect to help preserve a candidate capable of surviving the coming crisis. His aim is not simply personal succession. He believes the Forsaken Immortal Clan can survive only by placing a controllable cultivator over the Cultivation Planet Crystal, avoiding direct intervention from the Cultivation Alliance. When clan ancestors emerge too early and force his identity into the open, Yunque Zi gravely wounds Zhuque Zi in a surprise attack but argues against a reckless execution that could cause the crystal's destruction and kill everyone born on the planet. (Chapters 391–392 and 429–430)
War, negotiation, and the Suzaku Tomb
Yunque Zi gives Zhuque Zi three months to recover because he understands both his senior brother's temperament and the crystal's danger. At Mount Suzaku, he proposes coexistence and division of the planet, only to face Zhuque Zi's ultimatum: find the Cultivation Planet Crystal inside the tomb before it collapses. A twelve-leaf ancestor's skull allows Yunque Zi to bypass the tomb's Ascendant restriction temporarily, but the borrowed entry has a time limit that will kill him if he remains too long. Inside, he shelters candidates with tattoo puppets, breaks the spirit-mountain door with tattoos and a straw hat, and reaches the false crystal chamber. There he asks Wang Lin to retrieve a crystal shadow by claiming it will save the planet, concealing that the extraction demands a life. Wang Lin detects the trap, frees the possessed outsider whom Yunque Zi had sealed, and openly says that a former benefactor has disappointed him. (Chapters 441–463)
Defeat, settlement, and final years
Yunque Zi chases the true crystal, battles Zhuque Zi, and is then badly injured when Tuo Sen enters their conflict. The Cultivation Alliance messenger imposes a settlement granting the Forsaken Immortal Clan one-third of planet Suzaku in exchange for a nine-leaf-or-higher skull every thousand years. Yunque Zi accepts because refusal would destroy his clan. After the tomb collapses, the clan withdraws to the northwest; he remains wounded, aged, and aware that his lifespan is nearing its end. Centuries later, he helps defend planet Suzaku from Allheaven invaders and, despite his improved cultivation, is overwhelmed by a celestial-bloodline pressure that forces his clan instincts to yield. When Wang Lin returns, Yunque Zi respects his wish for solitude and later guides him through the clan's ancestral graveyard, asking only that Wang Lin help uncover the clan's origin. Zhou Wutai eventually reports that Yunque Zi died when his lifespan ended, repeatedly speaking Wang Lin's name before burial. (Chapters 466–472, 888–907, and 1572)
Appearance and personality
Yunque Zi first cultivates a deliberately sloppy, unremarkable appearance, but after revealing himself he wears a red robe and carries himself much like Zhuque Zi. In old age he is white-haired and visibly worn by injury and time. He is strategic, patient, and more interested in clan survival than glorious battle, yet that pragmatism makes him manipulative: he can protect a chosen pawn for years and still be willing to exchange that person's life when the crystal is within reach. (Chapters 429, 458, 472, and 890)
Abilities and cultivation
Mid-stage Ascendant cultivation
Yunque Zi is explicitly a mid-stage Ascendant cultivator. He can teleport, project a giant handprint using celestial spiritual energy, resist sword energy comparable to an Ascendant attack, and perceive cultivation up through late Ascendant. His realm places him among planet Suzaku's strongest native powers, but not beyond its hierarchy: Tuo Sen's punch gravely injures him, the Alliance messenger is unreadable to his senses, and later celestial-origin pressure triggers an inherited submission response he cannot fully resist. These limits keep his rank distinct from the eleven- and twelve-leaf ancestral powers he sometimes borrows. (Chapters 430, 458–467, 558, and 889–907)
Tattoo spells and shadow sealing
As a Forsaken Immortal Clan shaman, Yunque Zi manifests golden tattoos for offense and defense. He turns a straw hat into countless tattoo meteors to help break the tomb door and later surrounds himself with tattoos when facing Tuo Sen's possessed puppet. His most technical feat is a shadow seal built from the aura of the dead first Suzaku and his own cultivation. It traps Tuo Sen's possessing divine sense for a time even though that enemy claims an original body could destroy it with one punch. The seal is therefore sophisticated but conditional: it relies on a prepared environment and can restrain only the limited possessing body, not Tuo Sen at full strength. (Chapters 460 and 463)
Candidate tools, puppets, and reversal method
Yunque Zi's straw hats conceal divine sense through layered restrictions; users below Ascendant can hide effectively from opponents who have not reached Ascendant, while studying the layers can teach restriction craft. He also supplies Zi Xin and Zhou Wutai with late Soul Formation tattoo puppets for protection. A separate secret method lets Zi Xin reverse her status as Qian Feng's cultivation furnace and absorb power when Qian Feng dies. The corpus shows the result and attributes the unknown spell to Yunque Zi, but does not explain its casting steps or prove that it works outside the specially prepared relationship. His candidate system therefore depends as much on long preparation and embedded tools as on direct force. (Chapters 458, 466, 471, and 558)
Relationships
- Wang Lin: Yunque Zi chooses Wang Lin as a potential Suzaku, gives him a restrictive straw hat, and indirectly supports his growth. Their relationship breaks when Yunque Zi tries to make him pay the lethal price for extracting the crystal, but later settles into mutual recognition and ancestral cooperation. (Chapters 391–392, 430, 458–463, and 892–907)
- Liu Mei: Liu Mei is part of the succession struggle Yunque Zi tries to manipulate, but the corpus does not establish her as one of his protected candidates or a close associate. (Chapters 392, 401, and 442)
- Qian Feng: Qian Feng is Zhuque Zi's candidate and an obstacle to Yunque Zi's plan. Yunque Zi prepares Zi Xin's reversal of the cultivation-furnace relationship, allowing her to inherit Qian Feng's power after Wang Lin kills him. (Chapters 429–430, 458, and 466–468)
Items
- Straw hat: Yunque Zi gives restriction-layered hats to selected candidates. They conceal divine sense, can unfold into tattoo attacks, and provide Wang Lin with restriction knowledge. (Chapters 391, 430, 460, 471, and 558)
- Tattoo puppets: He provides Zi Xin and Zhou Wutai with late Soul Formation protectors for the journey through the Suzaku Tomb. (Chapter 458)
- Soul Lasher: The Soul Lasher is not Yunque Zi's weapon. It is compared with his straw hat when Wang Lin studies their restriction layers after removing another cultivator's divine sense. (Chapter 471)
