Sigil of God's Will

History

Neverwinter recovers a silver plate carrying several magic stones from ancient ruins. Agatha identifies it as a Sigil of God's Will, one of the ancient Union's most powerful compound devices. Its components came from Senior Demons, and only three or four examples were said to exist in Taquila. The recovered sigil therefore represents both a weapon and surviving evidence of the Quest Society's research into combinations that alter or amplify magic. (Chapter 388)

The device initially exceeds the output of most modern witches. Agatha can illuminate only part of it before exhaustion, and the Union's complete examples were restricted to its Chiefs, who were Transcendents. Neverwinter nevertheless uses controlled practice to find compatible operators. Paper learns to inject magic with increasing precision, while Anna later carries the sigil as an emergency weapon during the Church campaign. It remains available for exceptional threats rather than ordinary patrols. (Chapters 388, 465, 550, and 715)

Ashes' last battle shows both the sigil's benchmark and its limits. Observers compare the sustained golden power produced after Ashes becomes a Transcendent with an effect even the Sigil of God's Will could not maintain for so long. The comparison confirms the artifact's extraordinary destructive output without making it equivalent to an inexhaustible source of divine power. (Chapter 1165)

Properties and use

The sigil combines several magic stones on a metal base so that their powers interact. Activation requires a witch to supply an exceptionally large quantity of magic, and partial activation may illuminate only some components without producing the complete effect. Its scarcity is compounded by the need for stones taken from high-ranking demons, making loss or damage difficult to replace. (Chapter 388)

When successfully discharged, it releases a devastating magical attack suitable for powerful demonic beasts or other battlefield emergencies. The corpus does not establish a precise universal range, firing rate, or number of safe uses, so it should not be treated as conventional artillery. Operator capacity, compatible activation, limited components, and the tactical need to protect the wielder all constrain deployment. (Chapters 550 and 715)
