Paper

Paper is a temperature-altering witch and student.

Biography

From the street to the Witch Union

Paper survives among Longsong's orphans and uses her ability to clear snow from roofs in exchange for food, a plan devised with Snaketooth. Public use exposes her to danger, so Petrov takes her to Border Town; Paper accepts because he promises not to punish the boy who had protected and fed the group. (Chapter 366)

In Neverwinter she receives education and controlled practice rather than being exploited for street work. Her later contact with Snaketooth shows that the separation never erased their attachment: his pursuit of a stable home is tied to his hope of living with her, and Leaf discreetly observes their conversation. (Chapters 539, 571, 965, and 1067–1100)

Appearance and personality

Paper is introduced as a very thin, dirty homeless girl with stiffened hair, torn clothing, and red fingers from cold. She speaks little and worries about soiling a hammock, signs of deprivation rather than fixed personality; safety later allows affection and ordinary embarrassment to emerge. (Chapters 366 and 1099–1100)

Magic and abilities

Paper changes the temperature at which objects undergo phase transitions, allowing snow or ice to melt without ordinary heating. The supplied corpus establishes practical snow removal and later research, but not unlimited heat generation, a precise maximum range, or the ability to affect every material equally. (Chapters 366, 539, 571, and 965)

Relationships

Snaketooth shares food with Paper, devises work for her, and later seeks a home suitable for a future together. Petrov Hull removes her from immediate danger, while the Witch Union turns that rescue into education and protected practice. (Chapters 366 and 1067–1100)
