Betty
Betty is an ancient Taquila witch whose soul survives in a God's Punishment body and who later serves Neverwinter as a scout and combat operative. She is distinct from an ordinary City Hall clerk also named Betty, whose two supplied appearances do not meet the character threshold.
Biography
From Taquila's reserve to Neverwinter's field teams
Betty survived a catastrophic stomach wound during Taquila's wars by transferring her soul into a reserve God's Punishment shell. The body preserved her as a soldier but cost her ordinary sensation and the independent life she once had. After Taquila's survivors ally with Roland, she returns to active operations rather than remaining underground, using the sacrifice that kept her alive to protect the coalition preparing for the next Battle of Divine Will. (Chapters 686–687 and 728)
During the exploration below the Great Snow Mountain, Betty recognizes how darkness, distance, divided attention, and short anti-magic ranges let concealed beasts evade ordinary sight. She urges retreat when the underground shriek signals a larger danger, then accepts Edith's order to lead support south of the riverway. Later she joins Zooey and Elena in Dawn, where their reports and choices tie Taquila's ancient soldiers to Neverwinter's present command rather than an isolated remnant. (Chapters 809 and 943)
A veteran shaped by a second world
Betty later joins Zooey's mission to remove the last Church forces from Archduke Island and rescue Farina. She insists teasingly on being called “Lady Betty,” fights beside Zooey with practiced coordination, and uses captured God's Punishment Warriors against their former masters. The mission recovers the Magic Cube and uproots the Church's remaining military presence on the island. By then her jokes about explosions and sunglasses also show the influence of the Dream World, where the ancient witches encounter experiences their physical shells deny them. (Chapters 1108, 1110–1111, 1114, and 1116)
Appearance and personality
Betty's active real-world form is a God's Punishment body; the supplied chapters do not preserve a reliable description of her original human appearance. She is blunt, confident, and fond of irreverent jokes, but her levity accompanies disciplined judgment: underground she identifies perceptual limits and recommends withdrawal, while on Archduke Island she coordinates smoothly with Zooey under pressure. (Chapters 809, 1108, and 1110–1114)
Magic and abilities
Betty's present physical capabilities come from the God's Punishment shell, which provides exceptional strength, speed, durability, and resistance to ordinary magic at the cost of normal sensation. The corpus does not establish her original witch ability or show that personal spell surviving the transfer. The shell can still be damaged or destroyed, and its anti-magic field does not replace reconnaissance or tactical judgment. Betty supplements it with ancient combat experience, acute sight and hearing, firearms, and close coordination with other Taquila veterans. (Chapters 686, 728, 809, and 1110–1111)
Relationships
Zooey is Betty's closest recurring field partner. They share Taquila's history, argue about Alice's legacy, and fight as a practiced pair during the Archduke Island mission. Elena also works beside them in Dawn and the surviving Taquila command. Their companionship gives Betty a community continuous with the past while their service to Neverwinter creates a purpose beyond merely preserving that past. (Chapters 686–687, 943, 1108–1114)
