Aila

Princess Aila Sol Zelan is a royal healer whose life changes when the political marriage arranged for her in the Kyrintor Mountains collapses. Lont gives the aspiring Life Mage access to the renowned healer Owen, and she later repeatedly heals William and his companions before discovering that the recurring dreams drawing her toward William preserve a bond from their lives in Asgard. Aila's importance rests less on direct offense than on the rare abundance and quality of her Life Magic: it keeps William's damaged soul stable, supports the Grand Alliance's medical corps, and turns an initially one-sided sacrifice into a relationship the two consciously rebuild in their present lives. Biography

From political bride to battlefield healer

Aila first appears as a princess of the Zelan Dynasty brought to the Northern Tribes for an alliance marriage. Although she smiles when introduced, resignation rather than happiness shapes her expression, and she recognizes in Brianna another young woman being used as a political tool. She accepts Connal's declaration that she will be his main wife because her father has made the match part of the alliance against Hellan, not because the text establishes that she chose him. William's disruption of the gathering prevents the arrangement from being completed and gives Aila a future outside the role assigned to her. (Chapters 246–261)

Her brother Alaric arranges for her to stay in Lont, where James learns that she studies Life Magic and offers to introduce her to Owen, the famed Life Archon. Aila accepts the opportunity as an aspiring healer rather than remaining merely a displaced royal. During the Southern war she stays connected to her brother and the survivors of Zelan, develops admiration for William's courage and role in resisting the Elven invasion, and later accompanies the royal party in watching over dangerous operations. When Alaric is struck during battle, she rushes to him immediately, showing that family loyalty remains stronger than courtly composure. (Chapters 261, 374–445, and 501)

Aila eventually joins Hestia Academy in the Central Continent. On a mission involving a hostile Dryad, she is badly endangered while trying to reach Conan; once rescued, she combines her healing magic with William's to stabilize the Familiar's failing life force and accepts responsibility for protecting him during recovery. The episode demonstrates the practical shape of her magic: repeated treatment can restore a patient from the edge of death, but it requires time, cooperation, and continued attention rather than instantly erasing every injury. Her connection to William deepens through recurring dreams she cannot explain. In them, an earlier Aila saves a silver-haired William during war but is coerced by her elders into erasing his memories to end their forbidden relationship. Present-day Aila wakes grieving a loss she does not consciously remember. After she confesses her feelings, Conan persuades William to examine the dreams before answering; their shared past explains the attraction, but neither treats it as sufficient by itself to dictate the present relationship. Life Magic, chosen love, and a family after war

During William's transformation into the Prince of Darkness, Aila accepts custody of memories he fears losing. Her memory-removal ability works through contact and can take specific recollections, but absorbing the warmth and emotion within them overwhelms her restraint until William loses more than she initially intends. The incident shows both the reach and danger of the power: she can preserve memories outside their owner, yet their emotional content affects her, and removing them also removes William's awareness of why he entrusted them to her. William also begins depending on the Life Magic overflowing from Aila's body. He can absorb it from her, but even taking one quarter leaves her weak until it replenishes the next day. Aila is an angelic-looking young woman with long light-purple hair, matching purple eyes, and creamy white skin. Her formal beauty draws numerous suitors, but her first smile carries resignation because of the political marriage surrounding her. Later descriptions emphasize the same gentle, pure impression rather than a combat transformation or alternate body. (Chapters 246, 746, and 952)

She is reserved, courteous, and deeply empathetic. Aila recognizes the suffering of other political brides, rushes to injured family, and repeatedly spends her own strength to keep patients alive. Her reserve does not mean the absence of desire or fear: she confesses to William, admits that his darkened state frightens her, and still makes a deliberate choice to protect the part of him that remains compassionate. Feelings inherited through dreams affect her, but her mature relationship grows through honesty, boundaries, service, and the willingness to start again rather than claiming a past-life debt. Aila is identified as a student and practitioner of Life Magic, and James offers to connect her with the Life Archon Owen in Lont. Her magic excels at healing, sustaining life, and stabilizing the soul, while a separate unique ability manipulates memories. Healing and Life Magic
