Kinjur
Kinjur is an Orcrox shaman who leads a detachment from Basque Village, carries the apprentice Ian back to Orcrox, and supports Lenox’s undead-subjugation force with spirit blessings and lightning. He dies with Lenox, Hoyt, Gulda, and the other defenders after Thawing Balhae’s ambush. Much later, Crockta sees Kinjur laughing among the fallen orc warriors during his last stand against the War God, a spiritual or visionary presence rather than a confirmed resurrection. (Chapters 22–26, 169, and 212)
Biography
The South and the Heaven and Earth Conflict
Kinjur is part of the armed shaman group leaving Basque Village when Tashaquil orders him to take Ian with them and return to Orcrox immediately. Kinjur obeys without demanding an explanation, uses spirit magic to strengthen and lighten the entire detachment, and leads them through the forest at exceptional speed. His position at the front and the comparison to an alpha wolf establish him as the field leader of this group, while Tashaquil remains the senior shaman who gives the order rather than the caster of Kinjur’s traveling enhancement. (Chapter 22)
At Orcrox, Kinjur blesses Lenox’s full force before its first great battle with Ian. His support helps warriors and shamans move through northern monsters and continue into the undead dungeon. During the fighting, shaman blessings strengthen the unit’s attacks, and Kinjur personally waves his staff and calls lightning onto a fallen death knight. The expedition is ultimately a trap arranged by Thawing Balhae, leaving the exhausted orcs surrounded by fresh human troops. Kinjur refuses to let Ian remain for a hopeless fight, dismissing the apprentice as unworthy of wasting his spells on so that Ian will accept the escape Lenox orders. (Chapters 23–25)
Kinjur stays with the warriors and is killed in the ambush. A later raid video shows him collapsed among the dead, and no subsequent chapter restores his body. Crockta nevertheless carries the fallen orcs’ principles into the southern confrontation with the empire: when he declares the warrior’s laws, the narration treats him as the continuation of Lenox, Gulda, Kinjur, and the others whom the enemy believed it had erased. Kinjur’s consequence is therefore transmitted through the apprentice he helped save, not through physical survival. (Chapters 25–26 and 169)
During Crockta’s duel with the War God, he perceives Lenox beside him and Kinjur laughing behind the old warrior, followed by Gulda and an army of dead orcs. The vision accompanies Crockta’s recovered strength and determination, but the refreshing aura is specifically associated with Lenox’s touch, not a new spell explicitly cast by Kinjur. The scene does not overturn Kinjur’s death or show him returning to Orcrox afterward; it is his latest appearance as part of the fallen warriors supporting Crockta’s final stand. (Chapter 212)
Appearance and personality
Kinjur is an orc shaman who carries a staff. The detachment around Kinjur wears leather armor beneath shamanic clothing and carries melee weapons as well as staffs, but the narration does not isolate which of those garments or secondary weapons belongs to Kinjur. No age, facial features, tattoos, or coloring are stated. (Chapters 22–23)
He is disciplined, direct, and loyal to Orcrox’s warriors. Kinjur accepts Tashaquil’s command, leads from the front, and spends his power supporting the whole unit rather than seeking individual attention. His final words to Ian are deliberately dismissive, matching the other veterans’ attempt to make the apprentice flee without feeling that he has abandoned them. His laughter in Crockta’s later vision preserves the same refusal to meet death with regret. (Chapters 22–25 and 212)
Skills, powers, and limitations
Kinjur channels spirit magic through his staff. Before the return to Orcrox, waves of magical power enter the shamans and Ian, making their bodies feel light, filling them with strength, and allowing the group to cross the forest rapidly in a coordinated, beast-like run. He later blesses Lenox’s entire unit before the dungeon expedition. The corpus does not name the blessing, state its duration, or quantify how much of the force’s later performance belongs to Kinjur rather than the other shamans. (Chapters 22–23)
He can also call lightning by shouting and waving his staff, striking a fallen death knight while the orc warriors and shaman-enhanced attacks finish it. This is Kinjur’s only isolated offensive spell. Demon summoning associated with Tashaquil and abyssal darkness associated with Wallachwi are never demonstrated by Kinjur and should not be assigned to him merely because all three are orc shamans. (Chapter 25)
Kinjur’s magic does not make him or his allies invulnerable. The dungeon force is exhausted by repeated undead battles, caught by a larger prepared human army, and killed despite its blessings. His later presence in Crockta’s perception does not establish that Kinjur can resurrect himself, heal across death, or cast spells as an independent spirit. The source of Crockta’s refreshing aura in that scene is not explained beyond its connection to Lenox’s touch and the gathered fallen warriors. (Chapters 25–26 and 212)
Relationships
- Crockta: Kinjur first knows him as the apprentice Ian, strengthens him for the return to Orcrox, and helps force him to escape the fatal ambush. Crockta later invokes Kinjur as one of the dead warriors living through his choices and sees him during the War God duel. (Chapters 22–26, 169, and 212)
- Tashaquil: Tashaquil commands Kinjur to lead the departing shamans and take Ian to Orcrox. Kinjur carries out the field movement with his own spirit magic; the order does not make Tashaquil the caster of that enhancement. (Chapter 22)
- Lenox, Hoyt, and Gulda: Kinjur blesses their unit, fights beside them in the undead dungeon, and chooses to stay when they make their last stand. They die in the same ambush and later appear together in Crockta’s memory or vision. (Chapters 23–26 and 212)
- The Orcrox shamans: Kinjur leads one shaman detachment and contributes to a larger group supporting the warriors. Their combined blessings aid the expedition, but only Kinjur’s traveling enhancement and lightning strike are individually attributed. (Chapters 22–25)
Items
No cataloged item is confirmed in Kinjur’s possession. He channels magic through a staff, but it is unnamed and no independent property, origin, or custody history is provided. (Chapters 22–25)
