Gulda is a veteran Orcrox warrior trained by Lenox and known for his halberd, broad smile, and loud laughter. Biography

The South and the Heaven and Earth Conflict

Gulda welcomes Crockta and Grom as new warriors and explains that the final gateway requires each apprentice to find a personal answer about honor. His own test was to challenge Lenox with a halberd, an attempt that left him unconscious for a week. He later marches shoulder to shoulder with Crockta in the undead dungeon, rapidly cutting the limbs from a giant mantis. When the expedition is overwhelmed by death knights and hostile users, Gulda continues fighting after suffering a deep wound to the chest. He joins Lenox and Kinjur in declaring Crockta unqualified so that the apprentice will be forced to flee, then dies with the warriors who remain behind. (Chapters 19, 23, and 25–26)

Crockta remembers Gulda as one of the warriors who taught and guided him, and the imperial soldiers later perceive Crockta’s defiance as if Lenox, Gulda, and the other dead warriors are still advancing through him. Gulda’s son Gurokchwi carries the same distinctive laugh and helps awaken that inherited warrior spirit in Crockta. During Crockta’s later battle with the War God, Gulda appears beside the other dead warriors as a shade, striking the ground and laughing while their collective presence supports Crockta.
