Veradin
Veradin is a calculating necromancer, imperial baron, and eventual chief strategist of Immortal under Agnus. His pursuit of status leads him from manipulating an imperial territory to attacking Grid's people and seeking the yangbans' power; repeated defeat strips away his faction, opportunity, humanity, and finally his willingness to continue playing Satisfy. (Chapters 237, 238, 240, 245, 660, 789, 847, 1183, and 1184)
Biography
Reidan and the Overgeared Alliance
As master of the White Wolf Guild and a baron of the empire, Veradin receives orders to destroy the displaced Ul Clan. He treats their women and children as disposable NPCs and pursues imperial contribution toward a higher title, only for Grid to intervene. After defeat, Veradin suppresses immediate retaliation and manipulates the aftermath of Earl Zebra's death so he can gain influence over the heir and eventually deliver the territory to Agnus. His caution serves ambition rather than restraint or concern for the people harmed. (Chapters 237, 238, 240, and 245)
Kingdom Building and the Great Demons
Veradin becomes Agnus' chief of staff and recruits necromancers into Immortal, including talented players hostile to Overgeared. His strength lies in concentrated control: his death knight is less destructive than Agnus' multiple undead, but more delicate because Veradin focuses on one. He coordinates skeleton forces, uses agile undead against Faker, and treats the guild as a strategic instrument. That instrumental approach culminates in the unauthorized attack on Reinhardt that kills Khan, turning Grid's opposition into an unending punishment campaign. (Chapters 507, 591, 660, 775, and 1447)
At the same time, Veradin seeks a route above ordinary players. He reaches the Hwan Kingdom first and receives a hidden opportunity to become a yangban, expecting affiliation with the East Continent's strongest power to set him apart. The plan demonstrates long-range initiative, but his habit of creating enemies undermines it: Grid pursues him through the forces assembled around Penan and prevents him from securing the status he wanted. (Chapters 789 and 796–797)
East Continent and Imperial Reckoning
Veradin's recruitment of White and Black gives him influence within Immortal, but the faction cannot protect him from the consequences of Khan's death. Grid kills him repeatedly, forces a logout, and permanently ends his chance to reside in the Hwan Kingdom. Veradin cannot reconcile the outcome with his calculations because he consistently underestimates the resources and determination Grid can bring to a pursuit. Regret replaces his earlier confidence, though his resentment remains directed at Grid rather than at the choices that created the feud. (Chapters 841, 843, 846, and 847)
Yangbans, Gods, and New Legends
After losing levels, equipment, and his yangban route, Veradin flees to the East Continent and accepts transformation into a black horse jiangshi. The change multiplies basic magic and lets him summon blood jiangshi, but it costs his humanity and carries severe death penalties. He attacks Grid believing that sacrifice guarantees a proportional return, only to be defeated again. Realizing that Grid barely regards him as significant, Veradin logs out for what the narration identifies as the final time, ending revenge in futility rather than triumph. (Chapters 1142 and 1183–1184)
Appearance and personality
Veradin is described as a beautiful, white-haired young man with a gentle voice, a lean real-world body, and features delicate enough to be mistaken for a woman's. After becoming a black horse jiangshi, his skin is black and iron-hard, his white hair remains conspicuous, flames surround his hands, and his eyes glow red when he attacks. (Chapters 591, 847, and 1183)
He is cautious, intelligent, and skilled at recruitment, but also ruthless and status-obsessed. Veradin can calm frightened subordinates and plan several moves ahead, yet he treats NPC lives and even allies as pieces. His desire to prove himself superior to other players, including Agnus, makes each defeat to Grid personally intolerable and eventually reduces strategic ambition to revenge. (Chapters 237, 238, 240, 245, 591, 847, and 1183)
Abilities, classes, and skills
Necromancy and undead control
Veradin rises to the top of the necromancer rankings and specializes in precise control of a single death knight. His undead can traverse complex terrain and coordinate with skeleton knights summoned by Immortal's other necromancers. He also uses Corpse Storage and can replace the material of an existing death knight; the title Possessed by the Deceased lets him overcome insufficient dominance when turning the legendary Cave King into a death knight. This flexibility depends on access to suitable corpses, allied summoners, and focused control. (Chapters 591, 660, 775, and 846)
Strategy, recruitment, and limitations
His noncombat strength lies in identifying useful people, building factions, and exploiting political openings. He recruits White and Black, guides Immortal, and reaches the Hwan Kingdom before other players. These plans repeatedly fail when their assumptions are wrong: he misjudges Grid's stamina, power, and willingness to pursue him, while a strong death knight remains less destructive than Agnus' broader undead command. His plans can create opportunities, but they cannot compensate for insufficient force or information. (Chapters 245, 660, 789, 843, and 847)
Black horse jiangshi
The jiangshi transformation multiplies Veradin's formerly basic magic, gives him an iron-hard body, and lets him direct blood jiangshi. It is a desperate progression purchased with human dignity rather than a refinement of his necromancy. Death removes a substantial portion of the blood infused during the transformation, nearly doubles normal experience loss, and imposes a two-day revival. Grid defeats him despite these gains, and Veradin's final logout makes this form his latest state rather than the start of continued mastery. (Chapters 1183–1184)
Relationships
- Agnus: Veradin acts as Agnus' chief of staff and builds Immortal around his name, but pursues his own schemes. Agnus later makes clear that Veradin ordered the Reinhardt attack and Khan's death without his knowledge. (Chapters 374, 507, 591, and 1447)
- Grid: Grid first stops Veradin's massacre of the Ul Clan. Veradin later causes Khan's death and becomes the subject of Grid's repeated-killing order; every attempt to reverse their power imbalance deepens Veradin's losses. (Chapters 237, 238, 240, 245, 847, 1142, 1183, and 1184)
- Faker: Veradin attacks Faker with a carefully controlled death knight and supporting skeleton knights. The confrontation illustrates how Immortal's numbers and Veradin's precision are designed to overwhelm even elite Overgeared specialists. (Chapter 775)
