Michael

Michael is the third-ranked archangel of Asgard, revealed after possessing or replacing the pope of the Rebecca Church. He fights Grid with six wings and celestial power but is destroyed. His halo, feather, and wings survive as divine remains whose functions are later used independently of him. (Chapters 1474–1479, 1724, and 1797)

Biography

Recurring role and later consequences

Michael is exposed when the pope spreads six white wings, loses the papal tiara, and displays a halo together with his true name. The transformation reveals direct heavenly intervention within the church rather than an ordinary human leader. Grid attacks, and the encounter becomes another confrontation between the surface's new god and Asgard's agents. (Chapter 1474)

The battle is documented mainly through Grid's changing sword movement and the strain of defeating Michael. Michael's resistance is substantial enough that the work leaves Grid needing rest, but the evidence does not isolate a separate long speech or personal objective beyond his role as an archangel operating through the papacy. Grid ultimately destroys him. (Chapters 1475–1476 and 1478–1479)

Sariel receives Michael's halo and feather with a brief flash of regret connected to past memories, while still affirming the magnitude of Grid's action. Later, a function embedded in Michael's former wings manifests as slaughter. A final reference speculates that the irritable Michael may once have struck a regenerating gate; this is recollection, not evidence of survival. (Chapters 1477, 1724, and 1797)

Appearance and personality

Michael's revealed form has six white wings, a floating halo, and falling feathers. The papal tiara drops away when his celestial identity surfaces. No detailed face or body description is provided. (Chapter 1474)

The latest recollection calls him cranky and suggests he could lash out in anger, but the claim is speculative within dialogue. His direct scenes more securely establish hostility and endurance in battle than a complete personality. (Chapters 1474–1478 and 1797)

Abilities, classes, and skills

As the third-ranked archangel, Michael possesses divine status, flight-capable wings, and enough power to force Grid into a taxing fight. A slaughter function is built into his former wings, but chapter 1724 demonstrates the equipment's later activation rather than a current action by Michael. No complete list of named angelic skills is supplied. (Chapters 1474–1478 and 1724)

His decisive limitation is that Grid can destroy him. Michael's halo, feather, and wings remain usable after death, separating the archangel's personal status from the artifacts made from his remains. (Chapters 1477–1478 and 1724)

Relationships

Grid uncovers and destroys Michael. The battle costs Grid meaningful effort, while the remains become resources after the victory. (Chapters 1474–1479)

Sariel recognizes Michael and reacts to his destruction with restrained regret. Her response indicates shared heavenly history without excusing his opposition to Grid. (Chapter 1477)

Ruby is connected to the church context around Michael's exposure, but the selected evidence does not establish a developed personal relationship between them. (Chapters 1474–1476)

Items

  • Halo, feather, and wings: Michael's celestial remains survive his destruction. The wings retain a built-in slaughter function that manifests later. (Chapters 1477 and 1724)
