Hang Soyu

Hang Soyu is the leader of the Lust Clan and a Demonic Cult elder whose allegiance shifts during Chun Yeowun's succession struggle.

Biography

The first academy test

Soyu first appears as the beautiful, alluring leader of the Lust Clan and Fifth Elder of the Demonic Cult. She is invited to proctor the Demonic Academy's opening test with her Musical Energy Wave, played on a string instrument. The stated task is simple: candidates with at least a basic reserve of internal energy must withstand the sound for one minute. Even at controlled strength, the vibrations strike the eardrums and heart, causing dozens of cadets to collapse almost immediately. (Chapter 9)

When Chun Yeowun remains standing despite supposedly having no cultivation, Soyu takes the resistance personally. She accelerates the tempo and raises the output until even the clan heirs with decades of internal energy begin bleeding. At the end she uses roughly half her power, a level the test was never meant to impose, and Lee Hameng orders her to stop before the entire class suffers severe injury. The Cult Lord later uses the excess as grounds to bar her from important duties for the rest of the year, making Soyu the first major clan leader disciplined through an incident connected to Yeowun. Clan leader and wounded elder

Soyu's formal seat understates her martial standing. Her power is said to equal that of the six great clan leaders, placing her among the cult's strongest women, although Yin Moha defeats her decisively in an unofficial duel and Soyu thereafter avoids meeting her eye at elder gatherings. During the secret expedition against the Blade God Six Martial Clan, Soyu returns with her left arm missing. The loss reduces her future rank under a strength-based system but does not remove her from politics or active service. (Chapters 172, 186, and 255)

The succession conflict is also personal. Soyu's son dies in the academy, and she angrily interrupts the Grand Meeting when Yeowun is proposed as a new elder. Lord Chun Yujong approves the appointment before she can complete the objection. When Yeowun later kills the First Elder in the Great Hall, Soyu again protests, not because she doubts what she has seen but because his willingness and ability to execute a leading elder reveal how radically the cult's balance of power has shifted. Turning against Chun Yujong

Despite that hostility, Soyu eventually joins Bu Churyong, Ja Kinkeng, and other elders in attacking the Palace Guards who move against Yeowun. The choice places her openly against Chun Yujong. She sweats under the Lord's hostile energy and fears that she has chosen an impossible side, but she does not withdraw when he demands to know whether the elders are committing treason. Her support is pragmatic rather than affectionate: Yeowun has become the force most capable of preserving the cult against internal traitors and the outside Blade God threat. (Chapters 235–236)

Submission to the new Lord

Soyu still resists an immediate coronation when it bypasses the elders' established procedure. Together with Bu Churyong and Ja Kinkeng, she asks Yeowun to wait for the unconscious Lord and respect cult tradition. When Yeowun invites the three to negotiate, Soyu is initially delighted that their pressure seems to have worked and accepts an outdoor feast after demanding safeguards against an ambush. She dislikes raw meat but eats a portion of the freshly killed bull's heart to show respect. (Chapters 253–255)

The meal is itself the trap. Yeowun has placed dormant poison parasites in the bull's heart; because the organisms do not register as ordinary poison, the superior masters fail to detect them before eating. When the elders reject the abolition of clan armies and a new strength-based elder ranking that could demote the one-armed Soyu, Yeowun activates the parasites through the qi of the Sky Demon and forces their submission. Soyu survives, becomes Eleventh Elder in the reorganized hierarchy, and is later deployed under Suh Deng against the Blade God Six Martial Clan. (Chapters 255–256 and 261)

Appearance and personality

Soyu is described as a beautiful, alluring middle-aged woman and later loses her left arm. She is proud, politically alert, and emotionally transparent when frustrated or afraid. Yeowun's unexplained resistance during the first test provokes her into abandoning restraint, while threats to her clan make her both confrontational and pragmatic. She can reverse an alliance when survival requires it, but she continues bargaining for procedure, rank, and clan power until Yeowun removes the possibility of refusal.

Martial arts and abilities

Musical Energy Wave

Soyu channels internal energy through a string instrument, turning music into a wide-area attack. The technique contains both audible tones and physically harmful high- and low-frequency vibrations. Those waves enter through the ears and body, hammer the eardrums, disturb the heart, and can damage internal organs; simply plugging one's ears does not stop them. Tempo and force are adjustable, allowing the same art to serve as a controlled endurance test or a dangerous battlefield attack. (Chapters 9–10)

The test establishes its scaling. A small amount of internal energy may withstand a deliberately restrained wave for a minute, while candidates with roughly twenty years of energy can remain conscious under the normal examination pressure. When Soyu accelerates and reaches about half strength, even heirs with around thirty years of cultivation bleed and begin to collapse. The art is indiscriminate across its area unless Soyu moderates it, which makes emotional control essential; her fixation on Yeowun injures candidates who were never her target. Nano protects Yeowun only by blocking the incoming sound-wave signals through his ears and body, not by overpowering Soyu's qi. (Chapters 9–10)

Superior-master cultivation

Soyu's power is comparable to that of the six great clan leaders, and the later elder reorganization places nearly every elder above the final seat at superior-master level. Her cultivation lets her participate in struggles involving the cult's highest officers and sense ordinary poisons well enough to expel them before they spread. It does not put her among the absolute strongest: Yin Moha defeats her badly in an unofficial duel, and Chun Yujong's released energy alone makes her fear direct combat. Fighting after the loss of an arm

The secret expedition costs Soyu her left arm. She remains an elder and field commander afterward, but the injury is treated as a real reduction in competitive strength: when Yeowun announces that elder seats will be ranked by martial ability, Soyu expects that she may fall toward the bottom. The corpus does not show her replacing the limb or recovering her former two-handed technique, so her continued service should not be read as restoration without limitation. (Chapters 186, 255, and 261)

Poison awareness and the parasite's exception

As a superior master, Soyu can normally detect poison entering her body and drive it out with internal energy. Yeowun's poison parasite bypasses that defense because the dormant worms are not themselves conventionally poisonous; they settle in the bull's heart and then in the eater without triggering the expected warning. Once activated by Sky Demon qi, attempting to purge them only intensifies the pain. This is a specific counter to her sensory and cultivation defenses, not evidence that she lacks poison awareness.
