Hou Sangwha

Hou Sangwha is one of the Demonic Academy's strongest female cadets and later a member of Chun Yeowun's Six Swords.

Biography

Choosing Yeowun's faction

Hou Sangwha enters the Demonic Academy as cadet 222, already counted among its three strongest female students. She approaches Chun Yeowun only after watching him earn an instructor's tag and asks whether he truly judges recruits without regard to gender or clan. His answer matters because Sangwha expects her sex to affect how factions value her. To demonstrate that she is seeking a place through ability rather than favor, she performs the first five movements of the Seven Demon Sword with unusual precision and pledges herself only after Yeowun warns that following him may require bloodshed. That decision defines her Academy career. Sangwha becomes a leader within Yeowun's expanding group, recruits and trains her own team for the formation test, and is exempted from internal selection contests because her strength is already accepted. When the Academy returns personal weapons, her specialty becomes visible: she carries a giant axe as tall as an adult, a weapon ordinary cadets cannot comfortably wield. Sangwha is not uncritical of her chosen leader. Like other library users, she initially resents Yeowun's noisy, rapid “skimming,” then revises that judgment when he proves that he retained and understood the books. She progresses from an unsettled grandmaster to passing the fifth test and reaching master rank alongside Che Takim. Her loyalty therefore grows through repeated evidence: Yeowun's merit-based promise brings her in, but his demonstrated ability and the faction's shared trials keep her there. Palace coup and formal service

When Yeowun's conflict with the reigning Lord becomes open, Sangwha helps turn his Academy following into an operational force. Disguised as a tall palace servant, she blocks the entrance to the Great Hall while Yin Moha brings in Kingbonki's transformed body as evidence. Sangwha seizes one guard by the leg and swings him into the others, then holds off Palace Guard leader Pahin despite using a captured sword rather than her preferred axe. Her assignment is not to win the political argument herself, but to keep hostile reinforcements from erasing the evidence before Yeowun can force a succession. (Chapters 235–247)

After Yeowun becomes Lord, Sangwha's allegiance moves into the cult's formal hierarchy. She kneels to him with the other members of his faction and is later identified as the Fifth Sword of the Six Swords. Escorting the Godly Doctor

Sangwha is selected with Bakgi and Yin Moha for the covert expedition to Sword Creek because the cult needs strong fighters unknown outside its borders. When the mission disappears, Yeowun's rescue party finds that Sangwha and Hu Bong have posed as patients so the group can remove Gam Rosu from her guarded mansion. Sangwha then shifts between escort, combat, and interrogation support: she protects the physician during the escape, attacks pursuers, removes a prisoner's disguise with Mun Ku, and takes the grieving Gam Rosu away when the doctor loses control. At the Demonic Cult outpost, Sangwha and Mun Ku try to contain Wang Yogun after her Cold Blood Blockage erupts. Sangwha covers her giant axe in blue force qi, dodges volleys of ice needles, raises an energy barrier against a cold storm, and continues protecting Gam Rosu until stronger help arrives. The encounter shows both courage and judgment. She does not abandon the patient or physician, but the scale of Yogun's cold power makes clear that Sangwha's normal defenses cannot end the crisis. White Tiger core and Demon Energy

By the Changbai Mountain campaign, Sangwha has reached the end of the Super Master level. She, Ko Wanghur, and Mong Mu are assigned to cut apart the White Tiger's carcass because ordinary weapons and internal energy cannot penetrate it. Working with sword qi, they locate a dark core whose energy feels ferocious rather than divine. Despite Yeowun's warning against direct contact, Wanghur is overwhelmed while lifting it, and Sangwha is infected when she grabs him to help. (Chapters 469–470)

The core's energy drives both fighters into murderous rage and begins eroding their own energy. Yeowun intervenes with a Nano-assisted adaptation of the Sky Demon Energy method, suppressing the corruption until Sangwha and Wanghur can stabilize it in their dantians. Sangwha wakes in control and can feel the new power, but she does not understand how it established itself and immediately asks Yeowun for an explanation. Appearance and personality

Sangwha has a round, conventionally cute face but is taller than most male cadets and possesses visibly developed muscles. The contrast makes her chosen weapon—a full-grown-person-sized axe—surprising only until observers see her build. She is blunt, confident, and physically expressive, yet she remains sensitive to being discounted as a woman. Yeowun's willingness to ignore gender and clan is one of the reasons she chooses him. She is competitive without being rigid. Sangwha openly measures the strength of allies and opponents, teases companions, and initially shares the Academy's dismissive view of Yeowun's library behavior; when evidence disproves that view, she changes it. Her attempt to pull Wanghur away from the White Tiger core also reveals an instinct to help before she fully understands a danger—a loyalty that saves neither of them from corruption but keeps her beside him. Sangwha progresses from an elite cadet to an unsettled grandmaster, passes the Academy's fifth test at master rank, and is described at the White Tiger carcass as being at the end of the Super Master level. Sangwha's signature weapon is an axe approximately as tall as an adult. Its mass suits her exceptional build and allows her to convert strength and internal energy into heavy close-range pressure. White Tiger-derived Demon Energy

Sangwha's newest power is item-derived rather than innate. Contact transmitted the White Tiger core's vicious energy through Wanghur and into her body, where it overwhelmed her judgment and turned hatred and aggression into indiscriminate killing intent. She could not initially expel or govern it. Yeowun used a Nano-assisted method derived from handling Sky Demon Energy to restrain the invasive power while Sangwha meditated, after which it settled in her dantian and became part of her usable energy. Once stabilized, the power produces a dark, ferocious presence comparable in character to Yeowun's energy and is said to maximize the user's existing strength. Sangwha regains her normal eyes and conscious control, proving that the immediate possession has ended.
