Dan Jucheon

Dan Jucheon is the deputy king of the North Sea Ice Palace and uncle of Dan Baekhyun. He leads the palace during its internal crisis and later enters Chun Yeowun's order.

Biography

Seizing the deputy kingship

Jucheon is Dan Baekhyun's second uncle, former martial teacher, and rival within the North Sea Ice Palace's royal family. After the old king's death and the release of the Dragon Turtle, Baekhyun is incapacitated by wounds. Jucheon convenes the palace leadership, gains the support of senior officials, and has himself appointed deputy king before his nephew can contest the decision. He controls roughly eighty percent of the palace and is increasingly addressed as king, but the speed of the appointment makes Baekhyun suspect him of collusion with the Blade God Six Martial Clan. (Chapters 407 and 411)

Jucheon's motives are ambitious without being identical to the hidden conspiracy. He wants the kingship he once lost to his brother and intends to convert a successful request for Yulin aid into proof that the palace should accept him permanently. At the same time, he hesitates to eliminate Baekhyun outright because the prince is both his nephew and former disciple. First Elder Seol Young-gwi cultivates the conflict, pushing Jucheon to see sympathy as weakness while concealing the extent of the elders' betrayal. (Chapters 411–414)

The Dragon Turtle destroys the palace

The Dragon Turtle erupts beneath the complex before Jucheon can secure the throne. When the main building begins to collapse, he uses cold qi to reinforce broken pillars and orders trapped officials to escape, placing immediate survival above the political contest. He then attacks the beast with the Snow Field Blade. The weapon's cold qi can barely scratch its scales, and Jucheon's defensive ice shield shatters under a lightning discharge, forcing him to admit that a supreme master who has dominated northern martial artists cannot defeat this creature alone. (Chapter 415)

Jucheon regains order among the scattered palace troops and coordinates the surviving elders. Their combined Thousand White Ice Sound and Divine Palm of Ice God concentrate cold techniques that none of them can sustain at the necessary scale alone. The operation helps contain the Dragon Turtle but does not give Jucheon control of the aftermath. He is ultimately subdued and has his blood points sealed as Chun Yeowun exposes the infiltrators and determines ownership of the beast's core. (Chapters 415–429)

Loss of the palace and a larger offer

Once the conspiracy is revealed, Baekhyun receives the throne and the Ice Cold Staff recognizes Yeowun instead of Jucheon. Jucheon believes his political life is over and is prepared to die rather than serve beneath the nephew he displaced. Yeowun refuses to waste his ability. He offers Jucheon a future beyond the palace—the title “Ruler of the North”—and returns the Ice Cold Staff as the symbol of that promise after extracting its spirit energy. For Jucheon, who has spent his life feeling like the royal family's second choice, the possibility of ruling a wider northern domain revives the ambition that defeat had broken. He kneels, swears allegiance, and becomes the Sky Demon Order's third Great Elder and head of its academy. (Chapters 431–433)

Yeowun allows roughly one hundred Ice Palace followers to accompany him but prevents Jucheon from immediately rebuilding an independent faction until his loyalty is proven. On the journey south, Jucheon begins adapting to the new organization and displays a more conversational side, even teasing Hu Bong over the palace's portable northern tents. (Chapters 438 and 440)

Changbai Mountain

At Changbai Mountain, Jucheon operates as one of Yeowun's supreme-master officers. His cold qi allows an Air Sword to penetrate a tornado farther than the weapons of nearby allies, though it loses power inside and rebounds. Later, he and Marakim hold off the flame user Qu Yuan. The Ice Cold Staff transforms into golden armor whose cold attribute mitigates the heat, while Jucheon uses the eight-form Cold Ice of Heaven to suppress the flames and create an opening for Marakim. Qu Yuan feints, traps both men at close range, and forces Jucheon to spend his remaining energy on an ice wall until Yeowun intervenes. Jucheon survives but suffers internal injuries serious enough that he is still recovering when another dangerous core must be handled. (Chapters 447–470)

Appearance and personality

Jucheon is a silver-haired middle-aged man and a mature palace authority. He is intensely ambitious, sensitive to having lived as the royal family's second choice, and capable of turning cold when Baekhyun threatens his claim. Yet he protects officials during the palace collapse and cannot easily order the death of the nephew he once taught. Defeat leaves him briefly fatalistic; Yeowun wins his loyalty by redirecting, rather than extinguishing, the desire to rise.

Martial arts and abilities

Supreme-master cultivation and cold qi

Jucheon has been a supreme master for several years and is considered one of the strongest warriors in the North, comparable in energy to Wulin's Five Strongest. His internal art produces intense cold qi that can reinforce structures, coat weapons, form defensive shields, and invade an opponent's body. Against ordinary martial artists, cold that has already entered the meridians cannot simply be driven away; against spirit beasts or peer supreme masters, however, the difference in scale can break his shields or exhaust his reserves. (Chapters 411–415, 447, and 465)

Snow Field Blade and Air Sword

The Snow Field Blade carries Jucheon's cold qi into cutting attacks. He can also control a sword remotely through the Air Sword principle, preserving direction after the weapon leaves his hand. By combining sword qi and cold qi, his Air Sword penetrates a violent tornado that repels two allied swords, because the cold attribute interferes with the rotating energy. It still loses power after entry and rebounds, so penetration does not guarantee a damaging strike. (Chapters 415 and 450)

Thousand White Ice Sound and Divine Palm of Ice God

These inherited Ice Palace techniques are deployed cooperatively against the Dragon Turtle. Thousand White Ice Sound concentrates cold through coordinated sound or vibration, while Divine Palm of Ice God delivers the gathered freezing power through palm formations. Multiple elders multiply the output and coverage, making the arts useful for restraining a target too large for one warrior. Even together, they are containment tools rather than proof that the group can pierce the Dragon Turtle's scales or survive its lightning without assistance. (Chapters 417–420)

Cold Ice of Heaven

Cold Ice of Heaven is an eight-form freezing art passed to Jucheon by Yeowun. Successive movements accumulate cold until the opponent's body and emitted energy can be subdued. Against Qu Yuan, Jucheon deliberately enters the flame field so the collision produces steam and strips away enough fire for Marakim to attack. The art depends on completing its sequence and maintaining output; a stronger opponent can feint, rekindle the flames, and force Jucheon into static defense before all eight forms take effect. (Chapter 468)

Command under disaster

Jucheon can restore formation discipline after a supernatural attack scatters palace troops. He assesses when a single fighter is ineffective, assigns combined techniques, and protects noncombatants while the command structure is collapsing. His political command is less reliable: he gains the deputy kingship through official support, but underestimates how deeply Seol Young-gwi's faction has compromised the palace. (Chapters 407–429)

Relationships

  • Dan Baekhyun: Nephew whose mission brings outside aid to the palace.
  • Chun Yeowun: Victor and later leader under whose Sky Demon Order Jucheon is ranked.
  • Marakim: Fellow high-level warrior recovering after the Changbai conflict.

Items

  • Ice Cold Staff: The North Sea Ice Palace's Divine Object, made from gold mixed with meteoric material. After Yeowun removes its spirit energy, he gives it to Jucheon as the symbol of the promised northern office. It can transform into golden upper-body armor whose cold attribute resists intense flame, though the protection still consumes Jucheon's energy during a prolonged fight. (Chapters 433 and 468)
  • Snow Field Blade: A cold-qi blade Jucheon uses against the Dragon Turtle and in later sword techniques. It can channel his cultivation but cannot penetrate the beast's scale armor by force alone. (Chapters 415 and 450)
