Baek Oh
Baek Oh is the head of the Poison Clan and a former Demonic Cult elder whose family becomes deeply entangled in the attacks on Chun Yeowun.
Biography
Demotion and the Poison Clan's Suspicion
Baek Oh leads the Poison Clan and originally holds an elder's seat in the Demonic Cult. After Lady Hwa dies from poisoning, Lord Chun Yujong places the clan under suspicion and forces Baek Oh down the elder hierarchy. He cannot challenge the ruler directly, yet the accusation reaches into his own family: Baek Oh fears that his daughter or other close relatives may have participated in the attack without his knowledge. (Chapter 51)
The political pressure becomes personal when Chun Jongsum, the Poison Clan's succession prince and Baek Oh's grandson, returns from the Academy with shattered bones and destroyed internal energy. The injury cannot be solved by the clan's normal expertise. Baek Oh hesitates between retaliation against Chun Yeowun and the risk of provoking further suppression, while other clan members demand that their leader restore the family's honor. (Chapters 55–60)
Selecting the Sixth-Test Duel
When Yeowun must challenge an elder for the sixth Academy test, Baek Oh initially has strong reasons to refuse. His clan has only recently emerged from punishment, and a public duel with the prince responsible for Jongsum's ruin could be read as factional revenge. Lady Mu changes the calculation by offering an orange token that can lead to the Godly Doctor, the one healer Baek Oh believes might restore his grandson. In return, she requires him not merely to accept the test but to kill Yeowun. (Chapters 125–129)
Baek Oh accepts because the offer joins family need with political survival. He believes a growing Yeowun will become the six clans' worst enemy, while Lady Mu promises Wise Clan protection from the consequences. Once the duel begins, Baek Oh also recognizes that the intelligence was correct: Yeowun's displayed energy understates his actual combat capacity, and most remaining elders would be unable to kill him. Staff Duel and Escalation to Lethal Poison
Baek Oh begins with a cold-steel staff and uses his complete energy from the outset, reflecting his rule that underestimating even a weaker opponent can cause death. His staff formations collide evenly with Yeowun's Butterfly Blade Dance, while his experience lets him infer that Yeowun is concealing power. The White Dragon Blade damages the staff without taking a mark, depriving Baek Oh of confidence in a prolonged conventional exchange. (Chapter 128)
He then releases a purple cloud composed of hundreds of poisons. The gas blackens sand and burns every surface it touches, forcing cadets, instructors, and witnesses away from the training ground. This escalation makes his intent unambiguous: the sixth test permits combat, but Baek Oh is using a battlefield poison that has massacred groups in earlier wars and is meant to leave no body. Poison Man and Death
Yeowun survives through an energy barrier, Nano's toxin removal and healing, and the White Dragon Blade's pure energy, which pushes gas away. When Baek Oh realizes his ordinary poison cannot finish the fight, he enters Poison Man state. His skin becomes dark blue and hard enough to deflect the Butterfly Blade Dance, his entire body emits poison capable of melting rock, and even distant observers begin to choke. The transformation consumes poison stored within his body, which is why he does not use it casually. (Chapter 130)
Baek Oh concentrates poisonous energy into his hands, shapes it into a giant demonic palm, and raises his remaining poison as a defensive barrier. Yeowun's third Sword Force of the Sky Demon formation overwhelms both layers, cuts through Baek Oh's blood points, and decapitates him. Because Baek Oh publicly used lethal poison first, the assembled witnesses give Yeowun a clear legal and political defense for killing an elder during the test. (Chapters 131–132)
The Poison Clan after Baek Oh
Baek Oh's death destabilizes the clan rather than ending its feud. His descendants hold a funeral while blaming both Yeowun and the Wise Clan pressure that pushed their leader into the duel. Further killings and planted evidence help trigger open war between the Poison and Wise clans, destroying much of both factions. Jongsum's later recovery of speech allows him to reveal information about Lady Mu, but it comes after Baek Oh has already sacrificed himself for the chance to heal him. (Chapters 141, 147–169)
Long after his death, Baek Oh remains a benchmark for poison specialists. Huan Yi remembers repeatedly imagining a duel with him and always losing, while later Yulin practitioners compare the Dang family's Thousand Poison art against the former Poison Clan head. Yeowun likewise uses the experience of their fight to read the spread and battlefield effect of later poisons. (Chapters 154–155, 393–394)
Appearance and personality
Baek Oh is an older man who fights with a staff; the local chapters do not establish a more stable everyday description. In Poison Man state his appearance changes drastically: his skin becomes an ominous dark blue, poisonous clouds rise wherever he steps, and poison continues escaping from his blood after death. (Chapters 128–131)
He is cautious while his clan remains under political scrutiny and understands that a duel with Yeowun may destroy what remains of its standing. Family loyalty overcomes that caution. The possibility of healing Jongsum makes him accept Lady Mu's bargain, and once committed he uses his most destructive poison before a crowd. He is experienced enough never to dismiss a nominally weaker fighter, but too invested in the clan conflict to withdraw after recognizing Yeowun's hidden strength.
Martial arts and abilities
Hundred-Poison Cloud
Baek Oh can circulate and release hundreds of poisons as a combined purple gas. The cloud spreads across an area rather than requiring direct contact, burns terrain black, and can reduce an unprotected body to bone. Its scale is why witnesses describe him as a walking poison bomb and why allies must retreat even when they are not his target. (Chapters 129–130)
The cloud is effective for battlefield denial as well as killing: anyone who approaches must resist inhalation, skin exposure, and the contaminated ground. Its documented counters are exceptional. Yeowun needs an energy barrier to delay penetration, Nano to remove toxins and heal burned tissue, and the White Dragon Blade's pure energy to clear gas from his immediate space. Baek Oh does not demonstrate a way to keep the cloud selective around allies. (Chapters 129–130)
Poison Man State
Poison Man is the final stage of Baek Oh's poison art. He converts his entire body into a poisonous weapon, turning his skin dark blue and hard enough to repel force-qi blade strikes. Poison radiating from the state melts rock and damages opponents who touch or cut him, combining armor, contact retaliation, and environmental attack. (Chapter 130)
The state draws on poison stored within Baek Oh, so activating it is an escalation he avoids unless necessary. It greatly improves defense but is not absolute: the Sword Force of the Sky Demon's concentrated formation penetrates his poison barrier and body. After death, poisonous vapor still rises from his blood, showing that the transformation is physical rather than a visual aura alone. (Chapters 130–131)
Poison Palm and Defensive Barrier
Baek Oh can focus poisonous energy through both hands and project it in the shape of a giant demonic hand. When forced onto the defensive, he gathers his poison around himself as a barrier rather than relying only on hardened skin. These applications show control over the density and form of his poison, shifting between dispersed gas, close-range coating, projected attack, and concentrated defense. (Chapters 130–131)
The barrier's limitation is force concentration. It cannot stop the countless linked strikes of Yeowun's black sword formation, which breaks through to Baek Oh's blood points before decapitating him. The corpus does not state that ordinary antidotes can neutralize the full Poison Man output. (Chapter 131)
Staff Arts and Combat Experience
Before releasing poison, Baek Oh fights with a cold-steel staff reinforced by force qi. His formations carry enough energy to destroy rock and collide evenly with the Butterfly Blade Dance. He uses full power from the beginning and reads changes in Yeowun's energy and experience after only a few exchanges, recognizing that the younger fighter is concealing his true level. (Chapter 128)
The staff is durable but inferior to the White Dragon Blade, which damages it without being scarred. Baek Oh therefore cannot rely on weapon attrition and must expose his more dangerous poison arts. His reputation among contemporaries such as Huan Yi confirms that his threat comes from the combination of competent elder-level martial arts and poison, not poison in isolation.
