Baek Churku
Baek Churku is a Poison Clan grandmaster whose elaborate attempt to disable Chun Yeowun through food poisoning is turned into evidence that ignites war between the Poison and Wise clans.
Biography
Six Swords and the Academy Trials
Churku carries the strongest personal grievance among the four Six Clan cadets who block Yeowun's path. Yeowun has destroyed Chun Jongsum's internal energy and killed Churku's grandfather Baek Oh, so Churku trains for revenge while insisting that a “peasant” has no claim to the Lord's seat. Knowing he cannot win a clean martial contest, he bribes a kitchen worker with Poison Clan wealth and support. Poison hidden on a soup scoop is masked by a strong spicy smell; the first stage is designed to scatter internal energy after roughly ten minutes, and the second to melt veins and organs. (Chapter 141)
Churku watches Yeowun eat and assumes the trap has succeeded, but he has never tested the mixture on a Supreme-level warrior. Yeowun retains force qi, proving that the expected energy collapse has not occurred. Churku's confidence breaks as the other ambushers look to him for an explanation. The four grandmasters still attack together, but Yeowun defeats them and arranges the bodies so their own clan techniques appear to explain the deaths. (Chapters 141–145)
Churku's corpse bears both Wise Energy Hand and Wise Demon Sword traces, while his own poison is found responsible for Hang Yujik's death after another formation removes Hang's arm. Academy investigators can identify which arts left each wound but not the hidden hand that redirected the battle. The Poison Clan receives Churku's pale body while still mourning Baek Oh and concludes that the Wise Clan killed him. Lady Mu's earlier hostility gives the frame credibility, turning Churku's failed revenge into a new inter-clan blood feud. (Chapters 145–147, 189)
Return to the Demonic Cult
A later report blames Chun Muyun and Mu Jinyun for Churku's death, helping provoke open conflict between the Wise and Poison clans. (Chapter 189)
Appearance and personality
The corpus provides no stable physical description. Churku is patient enough to construct a layered poison delivery, but class contempt and grief make him overconfident. He understands that Yeowun's cultivation may delay a toxin, yet treats his first use against such a target as certain success.
Martial arts and abilities
Grandmaster cultivation
Churku is one of four grandmaster-level cadets assembled because a poisoned Supreme warrior might still resist a single attacker. He can participate in coordinated clan formations, but the corpus does not name his personal weapon technique or show him defeating Yeowun after the poison fails. His rank supplies the finishing force behind the plan, not the means to bridge the full gap. (Chapters 141–145)
Two-stage poison
Churku crafts a poison with all of his available knowledge and power. Concealed in strongly scented soup, it is meant first to scatter internal energy so the victim cannot circulate qi, then to dissolve veins and organs. The delivery uses bribed kitchen staff and poison on the scoop rather than the entire pot, reducing obvious contamination. Its limitation is the untested target: Yeowun can isolate and expel the toxin despite Churku believing even a Supreme Master cannot do so once circulation is disrupted. (Chapters 141–142)
The same poison remains lethal to a less protected grandmaster. During the reconstructed battle, Hang Yujik dies from Churku's toxin after suffering a severed arm. This demonstrates genuine lethality without validating Churku's assumptions about Yeowun. (Chapter 146)
