Wu

Wu Chen is one of the Altered Fighting Academy facility's top three students and a close training companion of Apollo and Snow. His understated insect-like transformation specializes in physical strength and durability rather than an elaborate visible form, making him a dependable front-line member during the academy's beast-recovery lessons.

Biography

From facility ranker to Apprentice Recoverer

Wu holds third place in the AFA entry facility by training openly and joining Apollo's pact to keep the top students from eliminating one another before advancement. He is competitive enough to welcome a challenge, yet he does not participate in Sty's bullying of Gary Dem. When a lower-ranked student finally challenges him, Wu defeats the four-armed Altered without transforming, proving that his rank rests on conditioning and technique rather than the pact alone. After entering the academy, Wu signs NIRV's Apprentice Recoverer contract and joins Gary and Snow for live-beast exercises. Fear briefly freezes him at the first creature, but survival pressure makes him recover quickly and commit to teamwork. He later holds a centipede beast's pincers open despite being driven into a wall, protects Snow from Jayden Tiger's finishing strike, and continues joining lessons even after opponents expose the gap between academy elites and established professionals. These choices establish courage and loyalty, but also a limitation in his preferred approach: Wu repeatedly meets problems with direct strength and needs teammates when speed, range, or unusual abilities deny him a clean contest. Wu uses his first recovery reward strategically, requesting exclusive new Altered DNA that his organization could later distribute rather than a purely personal prize. Appearance and personality

Wu has very short, stiff hair and an extremely lean, well-defined body with little visible fat. He often trains shirtless or ties his jacket around his waist. During transformation, antennae emerge from his head, sweat pours rapidly from his body, and his enlarged forearms darken toward brown-black. (Chapters 374, 389, 435, 509–510)

He is energetic, competitive, and eager for difficult fights. Wu can be blunt and initially aloof toward newcomers, but he protects teammates instinctively and accepts criticism when bravery becomes reckless. His usual plan is simply to hit a problem until it stops moving, a straightforwardness that is both useful and exploitable.

Insect-type Altered transformation

Wu is an Altered whose exact source beast and acquisition history are never named. To enter his demonstrated combat state, he performs a short punching routine and stance; within seconds he sweats heavily, grows two antennae, enlarges his forearms, and darkens their skin. Wu's transformation concentrates exceptional power in his arms and body. His strength is not unlimited. The centipede's sustained pressure makes his hands bleed and exhausts his muscles, Jayden knocks him out once he becomes serious, and a centaur beast overpowers and throws him. Wu has no demonstrated ranged attack, flight, or specialized defense against unusual attributes, so faster enemies and battlefield separation force him to depend on team positioning. Apollo and Snow

Apollo and Snow are Wu's closest academy companions. Their facility pact allows all three to advance, and repeated exercises make Snow the teammate Wu protects even when doing so costs him tactical focus.

Gary Dem

Wu first regards Gary as an unpredictable newcomer, then accepts him as a teammate whose speed and judgment can solve problems his own strength cannot. Gary's rapid debut gives Wu a benchmark rather than an enemy; by the latest appearance, he watches Gary's success while continuing his own training.
