Saiber
Saiber is a five-star Altered Hunter placed in command of the expedition against the Lupus pack. His distrust of Blackjack and the disguised Howlers makes him a rigid evaluator, but battlefield losses force him to recognize their contribution and fight for the hunters he led into Ruin City.
Biography
Command under a collapsing mission
Saiber begins by demoting Blackjack within the expedition and testing his supposed apprentices, refusing to accept Gary Dem even after the others pass. When Gary kills an attacking ship worker, Saiber initially treats it as an unjustified attack on a civilian; a second transformation proves the ambush, and Saiber immediately changes course to secure the ship. Against Ironfang Rax, he promises to rescue his surrounded hunters and exhausts his paired weapons trying to keep that promise. Gary saves him from a fire attack and defeats Rax, making Saiber confront how unfairly he treated the “rookie.” (Chapters 1210, 1217, 1231, and 1247–1249)
Separated during the wider disaster, Saiber survives and later reaches the Slough meeting point. There he learns that the creatures his organization called Altereds were werewolves and vampires and that the Altered Hunters have been dissolved. His later occupation is not established. (Chapters 1321 and 1331)
Appearance and personality
Saiber is a man with a goatee. He is skeptical, status-conscious, and protective of the authority needed to hold an expedition together, sometimes to the point of dismissing useful evidence. Once the ambush becomes undeniable, he acts decisively and risks himself for his subordinates. (Chapters 1210, 1217, and 1231)
Powers and abilities
Saiber is a skilled human fighter who carries two short, energy-edged beast daggers. While holding one, he can pull his body toward the other wherever it lands, producing sudden straight-line movement that resembles magnetic attraction. He uses the effect to evade attacks, reposition behind Rax, and chain rapid slashes around a stronger opponent. (Chapters 1231 and 1247–1248)
The movement does not make his human body durable enough for its speed. Repeated acceleration causes vertigo, nausea, and vomiting, limiting the technique's safe use; even numerous successful cuts remain shallow against an Ironfang. Once the strain peaks, Saiber cannot move himself out of Rax's finishing attack without Gary's intervention. (Chapter 1248)
