Olivia
Olivia Pearl is the former leader of the Pincers and the Howlers' first Beta Werewolf. Gary Dem takes her organization by force and turns her as an experiment rather than killing her; although their bond begins as punishment and supernatural compulsion, Olivia's experience, ambition, and ferocity eventually make her one of the pack's principal commanders, trackers, and defenders.
Biography
The fall of the Pincers
Olivia first rules Burnham Food Street from the Kraken, where the profitable restaurant fronts the Pincers' trafficking and forced sex-work operation. She treats the women brought before her as commodities and orders where they will work, while her temper and authority keep her own armed men afraid of crossing her. She later claims that she once occupied the same exploited position herself, but shows neither remorse nor restraint when Gary attacks the Kraken over Stacy's death and the abuse he finds inside. Instead, she coordinates her trained guards with a costly beast whip, repeatedly binding Gary's limbs so that her men can stab him; when he survives through his werewolf powers and takes the weapon away, she accepts death without retracting what she has done. (Chapters 236 and 238–240)
Gary decides that death would be too easy and bites Olivia as an unwilling test of whether he can create another werewolf. The transformation leaves her ravenously hungry and places her under the new Howlers Pack's rules and Gary's direct orders. Humiliated by the loss of control, Olivia immediately challenges him for the Alpha position, but her new body is still weak and she cannot yet transform; Gary defeats her and demonstrates that the pack bond can compel both obedience and non-betrayal. Her first actions for the Howlers—stopping her men, surrendering the Pincers' assets, and announcing the takeover—therefore do not represent a voluntary moral conversion. (Chapters 241–245)
The takeover nevertheless changes Olivia's material position less completely than she first fears. Gary abolishes trafficking, underage work, debt coercion, and the Pincers name, but leaves her in charge of Burnham's businesses under Howlers ownership. She protests that the reforms will destroy revenue and drive guards away, then applies her knowledge and remaining loyal personnel to keep the district functioning. When Gary returns her whip and begins training her, she accepts that cooperation preserves both her life and much of her former influence; she also personally protects his sister Amy, captures the man following her, and traces the threat to the Grey Elephants. Gary remains openly disgusted by Olivia's past, while Olivia treats the dangerous young Alpha as both captor and the route to a larger future. (Chapters 244, 249, 252, and 257)
A place in the Howlers
Olivia first accompanies Gary and Kai as the visible proof that the Pincers truly submitted, using her reputation and knowledge of Slough's gang leaders to help the teenagers navigate their first summit. She does not hide the transfer of power when Tony Lock challenges them, and she encourages Gary not to accept condescension from older leaders. During the war among the Grey Elephants, Underdogs, and Howlers, she brings her own reinforcements, responds to an involuntary need to protect Gary, and uses his Alpha howl to overwhelm elite fighters. Her intervention helps keep Gary alive against Kirk, but her later decision to remain is also calculated: after seeing the Howlers win, she concludes that their rise may fulfil ambitions the Pincers could never safely pursue. (Chapters 269–272 and 297–305)
Gary promotes Olivia to Knight Grade and assigns her the Hunter Class without warning, causing her to collapse publicly and intensifying her resentment of his casual control over her body. The promotion gives her access to Gary's hunting trails, improved speed, tracking, and combat strength against marked enemies. She gradually develops partial transformation and fights beside Gary and the newly turned Kai against Damion's remaining forces, advising Gary that saving Kai will require a willingness to kill rather than another reckless solo attack. Her whip neutralizes anti-Altered crossbow bolts and ranged fighters while her Hunter bonuses let her dismantle marked opponents, making her a tactical complement to Gary's direct strength and Kai's planning. (Chapters 311, 315, and 346–352)
Away from battle, Olivia and Kai become the senior operators who keep the Howlers' expanding territory and businesses running while Gary attends the AFA. She continues to object to the gang's unusually generous financial policies, yet Burnham ultimately changes from a coercive red-light district into a successful strip of restaurants, bars, and legitimate nightlife that she manages personally. The second full moon also forces her to confront the limits of her new condition: keeping her Energy depleted through prolonged fasting delays her feral transformation, but even a small amount of food can trigger it, and anti-Altered spears have to force her back into human form. After recovering, she accepts the need for stronger containment and plans how she and Kai will manage future moons without Gary. (Chapters 353–356, 442–447, and 582)
Marie's request to become a werewolf gives Olivia a choice that is not dictated by Gary. Olivia clearly warns her that a Beta bite may fail, that the change cannot be reversed, and that hunger, killing impulses, and the full moon will replace ordinary life. When Marie insists that Gary and Kai would deny her agency out of protectiveness, Olivia agrees, transforms, and bites her. The unexpectedly long conversion frightens Olivia; she holds Marie's hand, keeps her conscious through the pain, and feels culpable for possibly killing her. She then offers to share the training lessons she had to learn alone and stands by Marie when Kai arrives furious, arguing that protecting Marie does not give him ownership of her choices. The decision is dangerous and unauthorized, but it marks Olivia's emergence as Marie's mentor rather than merely another commander. (Chapters 582–585)
The Phoenix assault on Slough
As the Howlers expand, Olivia remains one of the fighters trusted to operate without Gary. She trains with Marie after earlier defeats, supervises loyal personnel, helps prepare Burnham's defenses, and questions operations that might expose the Howlers' name or supply lines. During the Phoenix Gang's attack on Slough, she and Marie combine the Hunter and Protector roles against Raven's Hydra form: Marie absorbs attacks and creates openings while Olivia exploits them, targeting the central body instead of the endlessly regenerating heads. Their coordination keeps civilians and other fighters alive even though Raven's regeneration and acidic blood defeat their first plan. (Chapters 640–681, 737, and 842–866)
Gary promotes both women in the middle of that losing battle. Olivia's evolved Apex Predator form gives her renewable nail projectiles, extensible cutting claws, and an instinctive awareness of weak points. She uses the new capabilities to reach Raven's body and repeatedly pierce him, while Marie reinforces the pack behind her; when Raven's infected transformation makes his blood more corrosive and his attacks much stronger, Olivia cannot reach his heart and is nearly killed. Trapped with Marie, she interprets the apparent defeat as punishment for the danger she once helped create and tries to separate Marie from that guilt. Marie refuses the fatalism, but the two are still overwhelmed and later carried to safety. Their survival—and Olivia's insistence afterward that she would not lose a rematch—shows both the reach and the limits of the new class. (Chapters 866–879 and 928–935)
The assault leaves Burnham badly damaged and Olivia temporarily incapacitated, but she recovers and resumes her place among the Howlers' core. She does not soften into a conventional hero: her language, combat instincts, and willingness to hurt enemies remain severe. What changes is where she directs them. The district she once exploited has become territory she organizes and defends, and the young pack she initially saw as captors becomes the group whose losses and future she treats as her own responsibility. (Chapters 929–935)
The One Gang and the vampires
When the Howlers confront the One Gang, Olivia's tracking and independent judgment become as important as her force. Gary sends her to locate the missing Xin because the Hunter Class sharpens both scent and pursuit, and Olivia accepts the task even though she cannot promise success. Later, on the road to Harvor's arena, she, Kai, Marie, and Park fight as an integrated werewolf unit: Olivia screens Kai's wolf form from pursuing vehicles, targets attackers threatening her teammates, and uses the Alpha's remote boost to cut through groups that had nearly overwhelmed Park. (Chapters 1035 and 1072–1080)
Separated from the others by Pinner's demolition, Olivia fights the Zodiac member Berry alone. She uses her whip to bind Berry's wrists, fires regrowing nails at range, and identifies Berry's legs as the decisive weak point because the explosive fighter needs mobility to deliver close-range blows. Berry's self-detonation prevents a clean victory and demonstrates that recognizing a weakness does not remove the danger of reaching it. Olivia survives to rejoin the Howlers, preserving the hard-earned independence expected of a core commander even when Kai is no longer directing her moment by moment. (Chapters 1081–1082)
Olivia is equally skeptical when vampires test the Howlers and later offer cooperation. She recognizes their speed, blood aura, ranged attacks, and specialized abilities as gaps in the pack's knowledge, presses their king on the contradiction between claiming to protect humans and using human fighters, and argues against treating rank as a reason to submit. Although her distrust remains, she follows the group's decision to hear the vampires out rather than forcing a war. Her role in these meetings is therefore not diplomatic courtesy but adversarial judgment: she tests claims, identifies tactical risks, and refuses to let stronger factions define the Howlers as subordinates. (Chapters 1171–1198)
Fractured Alphas and the full-moon war
By the time Unzoku turns Kai into a second Alpha, Olivia is one of the people Kai consults on decisions too dangerous to burden the wider gang with. She understands that vampire support is self-interested without dismissing its practical value, helps track the missing Kai through the forest, and stays with the original core while Gary refuses to abandon him. The crisis exposes the pack to instincts that should force competing Alphas apart, but Olivia's response is organizational rather than panicked: she works within the group trying to keep Kai, Gary, and the Howlers intact. (Chapters 1369–1380)
During the full-moon conflict with the Lupus Pack, Olivia initially remains hidden with other recognizable werewolves so that enemy scouts cannot find the Howlers' strongest members. When Ghost threatens civilians to draw them out, the group chooses intervention over safety. Olivia uses her whip to catch him and fights alongside Xin, Park, Kevin, and Midwak while their inability to transform limits their normal advantages. Later, Gary's warhammer drains power from the wider pack, leaving Olivia and the others exhausted; they recover enough food to hold out until sunrise, after which Olivia transforms and helps push back the remaining attackers. (Chapters 1406–1444 and 1480–1508)
When Gary, Kai, and Lupus vanish, Olivia is ready to continue fighting, but accepts Luzen's surrender and the need to preserve what remains of both packs. She then helps the surviving leadership maintain the public impression that the Howlers emerged stronger than before, while also raising the possibility that Unzoku caused the Alphas' disappearance. In the leaders' absence, she remains part of the core group making security decisions from the Wolf's Pool Club and supports the measured expansion that keeps rival gangs from exploiting the vacuum. (Chapters 1513–1517 and 1582)
The Dark Guild investigation and a new family
With Gary and Kai still absent, Olivia functions as one of Slough's senior field leaders. When Marcus arrives at Burnham asking for Gary, she first subdues him, then recognizes the Dark Guild leader, stops the misunderstanding, and brings him to the Howlers' acting leadership rather than making the decision alone. She joins Xin, Luzen, and Marcus in investigating the destroyed Dark Guild base, discovers returning vampires on its cameras, and follows Xin's order not to provoke a war. Once the vampires attack first, however, she immediately uses her whip to pull one out of the air and stands ready to defend the group. (Chapters 1721–1727)
The investigation develops into a broader defense of Slough against Unzoku's Gluttons. Olivia alerts the others when Burnham comes under attack because her own people remain there, then fights the creatures inside the manor and kills one by driving her claws through the back of its head. She is injured and worries that the wound may transform her into a Glutton, but continues working with Xin and Marcus as the attack spreads across the city. After the Gluttons retreat toward their creator, Olivia joins the war-room analysis that helps locate Unzoku between the affected cities. (Chapters 1776–1778 and 1820)
Two years later, Olivia remains close to the pack. Gary still consults her about the vanished White, although an unexplained memory alteration leaves her unable to remember the woman she once abused. At Gary and Xin's wedding, Olivia walks as one of Xin's bridesmaids after spending many nights discussing the future with her. The ceremony does not erase her crimes or the coercion at the beginning of her Howlers life, but it establishes her latest position: alive, embedded in the family she once joined by force, and trusted to stand beside its Luna at the beginning of its next generation. (Chapters 1844 and 1848)
Appearance and personality
Olivia is introduced as a nearly six-foot-tall, middle-aged woman with long black hair, long legs, and an imposing figure. She favors conspicuous, close-fitting clothes, fur wraps, red lipstick, and the Howlers' later black-and-gold uniform. Her face is attractive but intimidating: her direct stare and menacing presence make subordinates afraid to look at her for too long. As a transformed werewolf, she has black fur, unusually long arms and legs, extended nails, and a leaner silhouette than heavier Warrior or Protector types. Her evolved class does not radically change that outline, instead emphasizing the claws and mobile build already associated with her Hunter form. (Chapters 236, 269, 349, and 877)
She is blunt, proud, ambitious, and quick to answer embarrassment with anger. Olivia has little patience for sentimentality, weak excuses, or ceremonial status, and her humor often remains cruel even after joining the Howlers. At the same time, she is observant and practical: she reads gang hierarchies quickly, identifies when an opponent is overconfident, and accepts strategic retreat when force cannot win. Her conduct toward Marie, her defense of Burnham, and her concern during the Phoenix battle show a capacity for responsibility and attachment that was absent from her first scenes. That growth complicates rather than excuses her history; White's trauma and Olivia's initial lack of remorse remain part of who she was. (Chapters 240, 304, 583–585, 879, 1038, and 1848)
Powers and abilities
Olivia is a close- and mid-range hunter whose werewolf physiology, pursuit instincts, and controllable whip let her create openings for stronger allies or finish vulnerable targets herself. Her greatest advantages are speed, precise targeting, and the ability to change attack range without warning; opponents who withstand her initial pressure or deny her movement can force her into costly exchanges.
Werewolf physiology and transformation
Gary creates Olivia with an Alpha bite, making her a Pawn Grade Beta Werewolf and the first subordinate in the Howlers Pack. The change increases her strength, speed, senses, resilience, and healing, but it initially gives her neither Gary's visible System nor conscious control of transformation. Hunger restores the Energy consumed by healing and changing form, while severe deprivation produces pain, aggression, and physical weakness. She first manages only involuntary eye and forearm changes; with training and a full moon behind her, she gains partial and full transformations. Her black-furred form has elongated limbs, longer claws, and enough strength to drag heavy opponents or resist electricity while remaining mobile. By the later Glutton crisis, she can deliberately return from a full combat form to human form without difficulty. (Chapters 241–243, 249, 252, 315, 349, and 1776)
The pack bond is both a source of power and a restriction. Gary's rules can prevent betrayal and unauthorized killing, while direct orders can compel action; Olivia can challenge for the Alpha position only under the pack's conditions and cannot rise beyond his grade. Conversely, Gary's Howling Force raises her physical capabilities for a limited period, and marked kills can feed experience back to him. The Lycantide Warhammer's Howling Eclipse can draw Energy from Olivia and distant pack members into Gary, leaving them exhausted until they eat and recover. (Chapters 241–246, 300–301, 349–352, and 1480–1486)
The full moon magnifies Olivia's killing impulse and can override ordinary judgment. Starving lowers her available Energy enough to delay transformation, but the experiment on her second moon shows that even a small amount of food can trigger a feral state; anti-Altered shocks force her back only because she is already depleted. Later experience and prepared containment make the cycle manageable, not harmless. The corpus does not establish that she becomes immune to moon-driven loss of control. (Chapters 315 and 442–447)
Hunter and Apex Predator classes
At Knight Grade, Gary assigns Olivia the Hunter Class. The class improves speed, focus, tracking, and combat performance against designated prey. Olivia can perceive Gary's Forced Bond trails as red, food-like smoke, and Gary can assign up to fifteen Hunter marks that make those targets more compelling and increase her strength against them. Later evidence indicates that she may also create marks subconsciously through strong killing intent, but because she has no visible System, the exact threshold and degree of voluntary control remain unknown. Her enhanced tracking remains valuable even when a target is not formally marked, as shown when she follows Kai's scent and searches for Xin. (Chapters 311, 315, 349–351, 1035, and 1374–1375)
Gary later raises Olivia to Bishop Grade, evolving the Hunter Class into the form the narrative calls the Apex Hunter and, in combat, the Apex Predator Class. The evolution gives her an instinctive sense for structural weak points: she blinds Raven's Hydra heads, identifies Berry's legs as the key to stopping her explosive boxing, and chooses vulnerable joints or sensory organs instead of relying on raw force. This sense guides her attacks but does not guarantee victory; she still needs the speed, position, and penetration to exploit what she detects. (Chapters 876–879 and 1081–1082)
Her evolved nails can launch as high-speed projectiles, regrow within moments, extend several meters as flexible cutting claws, or detach inside a target like blades. She can alternate those modes rapidly, allowing her to blind several heads at range, sever a Hydra neck, and attack Raven's central body without exposing her hands to acidic blood for long. The regeneration is not unlimited protection: Raven's enhanced acid dissolves the nails faster than she can reach his heart, and Berry's explosions can interrupt her before she capitalizes on a weak point. Damage to Olivia's underlying hands and body still requires ordinary werewolf healing or outside support from a Protector. (Chapters 877–879 and 1082)
Whip fighting
Olivia is an experienced whip user before becoming a werewolf. Her original beast weapon is strong enough to restrain transformed limbs, cut Gary's hide, and survive his claws; its Dark Guild construction lets it follow the movement she pictures, giving her unusually exact control over wrapping, pulling, intercepting, and redirecting targets. Werewolf strength turns that precision into force capable of tearing doors away, damaging vehicles or dragging fighters, catching anti-Altered bolts, and changing her own trajectory by pulling herself toward an opponent. The original whip begins wearing out against Raven and is later described as ruined; after Olivia asks for another, Kai obtains a new whip from the Dark Marketplace, which she first tests during the One Gang pursuit. These effects belong to Olivia's Whip, not her body, and damage or loss of either weapon reduces her control at range. (Chapters 239, 249, 301, 305, 350, 862, 935, and 1070–1072)

Relationships
- Gary Dem: Gary defeats, turns, and binds Olivia after condemning her crimes. She initially obeys through compulsion and self-preservation, but later chooses the Howlers' success as her own, protects Gary in battle, and becomes one of the commanders he trusts with his family, territory, and marked prey.
- Kai: Kai and Olivia run much of the Howlers' business and territory while Gary is absent. Their relationship mixes professional respect with friction: Kai values her experience and force, while Olivia challenges his assumptions and defends Marie's autonomy when his protectiveness becomes controlling.
- Marie: Olivia accepts Marie's request for transformation, stays with her through the dangerous change, and becomes her werewolf mentor. Their Hunter–Protector partnership grows into a close friendship sustained through the Phoenix assault, later wars, and the pack's leadership crises.
- Xin Clove: Olivia recognizes Xin's strategic authority during Gary's absence and joins her investigation of the Dark Guild. In the following years they become close enough to spend long nights discussing the future, and Olivia stands as one of Xin's bridesmaids.
- Amy Dem: Olivia first guards Amy because Gary orders it, personally capturing a Grey Elephant agent who follows her. The assignment is one of the earliest occasions on which Olivia uses her former gang apparatus to protect rather than exploit a vulnerable young woman.
- White: White is one of the women Olivia abuses while leading the Pincers, and the lasting trauma leaves White unable to trust almost anyone. An unexplained later memory alteration removes Olivia's recollection of White, but it does not undo their history.
Items
- Olivia's Whip: Olivia's signature arm covers two successive beast whips: the original Dark Guild weapon and the replacement Kai obtains after it is ruined. She uses both for restraint, mobility, ranged cutting, defense against projectiles, and battlefield control.
