Numan Killton
Numan Killton is the leader of the Twelfth Vampire Family and a senior supporter of the Third King, Lucien. Proud of the Settlement's hierarchy and initially contemptuous of werewolves, he becomes a wary advocate for disciplined cooperation after Gary demonstrates power outside Numan's expectations.
Biography
Guarding the Settlement's hierarchy
Numan Killton leads the Twelfth Vampire Family and accompanies the Third King, Lucien, during the Settlement's confrontation with the Howlers [Ch. 1184]. He reacts to Austin's disrespect by launching a blood attack, but Gary Dem breaks it before it lands [Ch. 1186]. Numan initially reads Gary as another werewolf subordinate and is unsettled as the fight reveals a consumed form and strength outside his assumptions [Chs. 1187–1192]. His contempt for underworld uses of the title “King” reflects a vampire noble's investment in formal rank, yet Gary's performance forces him to take the Howlers seriously.
Accepting an alliance without offering trust
When Lucien and Gary move from combat to cooperation against Lupus, Numan accepts the political need but warns Lucien against personal closeness. He makes clear that the Twelfth Family's cooperation depends on removing Lupus and also advises against creating needless tension with the new ally [Ch. 1200]. This combination of suspicion and restraint leaves him alive and aligned with Lucien at his last appearance: he has not become Gary's friend, but he recognizes that disciplined diplomacy serves the Settlement better than wounded pride.
Appearance and personality
Numan appears about fifty years old, with shoulder-length grey hair, a narrow face, and a thick silver moustache [Ch. 1184]. He is proud, status-conscious, and openly prejudiced against werewolves, but not recklessly inflexible. Once Lucien chooses an alliance, Numan voices his concerns in strategic terms rather than sabotaging it.
Powers and abilities
As an established vampire family head, Numan possesses vampire physiology, including senses and physical performance beyond an ordinary human. His clearest sensory feat is identifying Austin as human by scent [Ch. 1186]. The narrative does not quantify his speed, strength, healing, or longevity, so their precise level remains unspecified.
Numan can release his blood aura as a large, fast red slash capable of cutting the floor in its path [Ch. 1186]. The attack is activated through vampire blood control and serves as a ranged cutting strike, but Gary destroys it head-on. Numan does not display Lucien's finer control or further variants, leaving both the cost of the technique and his maximum output unknown. His reaction to Gary's consumed form also shows expert knowledge of normal werewolf transformations, though Gary's unusual mechanics exceed that knowledge [Chs. 1187–1192].
Relationships
- Lucien: Numan serves the Third King loyally, defends his status, and advises him to keep political distance from Gary even while honoring the alliance [Chs. 1184, 1200].
- Gary Dem: Numan begins from contempt and underestimation. Gary's destruction of his blood slash and performance against Lucien replace that certainty with wary respect [Chs. 1186–1192].
- Austin: Austin's insults provoke Numan's attack, and Numan immediately recognizes that he is human rather than a werewolf [Ch. 1186].
