Wince
Wince is a Mermerial princess who recruits Quinn to help reclaim her world from Yanny and later rules as queen. The responsibility she feels toward the royal household and her people drives her from covert resistance into daily training, alliance command, and a final defence against Earth's invasion. Her royal water power is strengthened by celestial energy received when she becomes Quinn's dedicated follower. (Chapters 1816–1867, 2124–2159, and 2202–2245)
Biography
Reclaiming the Mermerial throne
Wince meets Quinn aboard a Marpo Cruise and initially tests whether the apparently unremarkable traveller might be strong enough to help her. When attackers seize the ship to capture her, she reveals herself to stop further killing and desperately calls on Quinn after remembering his claims of power. His intervention gives Wince and her sister Ceril the allies they need to return to the Mermerial world. (Chapters 1816–1821)
Wince is the murdered ruler's heir, while Yanny's Predators have captured the royal army and are preparing to crown him. She and Ceril infiltrate the capital to reach the royal vault, even as public acceptance of Yanny makes Wince question whether her family's sacrifices mattered. She regains her resolve when dissent in the crowd shows that some people remember the former rule, and she continues for the captives who remained loyal. (Chapters 1826–1834)
With Quinn's group and the restored royal trident, Wince defeats Yanny's faction and reclaims the capital. She keeps Yanny alive rather than execute him because cooperation with Yongbu offers greater protection for the recovering race, and she gives the original trident to Sil when it indicates that he can use it better. Wince then accepts celestial energy from Quinn, becoming his dedicated follower so the Mermerials can remain connected to and protected by their new ally. (Chapters 1835–1841 and 1865–1867)
Ruling and protecting the Talen family
Over the following centuries Wince becomes queen, rebuilds the Mermerial military, and moves more cities above water partly so Quinn can visit despite his fear of the sea. She welcomes the displaced Talen family without demanding repayment and treats their danger as secondary to the debt her world owes them. When Yongbu attacks while seeking Quinn, Wince fights the much stronger celestial because he is threatening the people she regards as her saviours. (Chapters 2124–2137)
Wince cannot defeat Yongbu; even with celestial energy, blocking his vortex exhausts her and Layla must take over. Wince follows Layla's instruction to carry Galen to safety, then immediately attacks again when Mundus's Time Freeze releases her. Her conduct shows both the limits of her power and the priority she gives to the Talen children over pride in handling the threat alone. (Chapters 2137–2143 and 2158)
Commanding the alliance war
When Earth's forces advance, Wince helps form the Amra–Mermerial–Penswi alliance and takes overall command across three planets. She prepares disguises and a concealed ship for the team seeking Sil, positions forces to keep half the city available for movement and rescue, and remains on the battlefield because her people are fighting there. The mounting casualties trouble her, but she refuses to blame Quinn for exposing a danger her world could not have survived alone. (Chapters 2202, 2205, 2209, and 2241)
Wince fights Pine and the five-spike Dalki with Ceril and the allied forces, using water constructs, celestial reinforcement, and a trident made from a demon-tier beast she killed in training. After the group defeats Pine, H arrives. Wince attacks first in the hope that damaging him might create a chance for the others; H catches the trident and throws it back through her midsection, killing her before she can speak. The Mermerials lose both royal sisters in the same encounter, and the postwar alliance commemorates their stand. (Chapters 2137, 2228–2230, 2245, 2262, and 2281–2304)
Appearance and personality
Wince is a pink-haired Mermerial woman whose humanoid form has blue-toned skin and scales that become more pronounced when she channels celestial power. In battle, the fins on her arms enlarge and harden, giving her a more predatory aquatic appearance. As a princess she wears elegant dresses, including a sparkling blue dress after her restoration; as queen she carries a trident and trains as a combatant rather than relying only on royal guards. (Chapters 1816, 1820, 1866, 2124, and 2228)
She is curious and capable of playful manipulation when first assessing Quinn, but royal responsibility quickly overrides personal ease. Wince feels rejection and battlefield losses intensely, yet turns both into action: she steadies herself for captured loyalists, trains because an entire world depends on her, and attacks enemies she knows are stronger when others need time or protection. (Chapters 1816, 1820, 1831, 2137, 2205, and 2245)
Powers and abilities
Mermerial physiology and water control
Wince can breathe and manoeuvre underwater, while Mermerial bodies change into more aquatic forms when substantially submerged. Her royal blood gives her unusually high natural strength and an affinity for controlling water. She produces focused jets and vortexes, gathers moisture from the ground and air into a protective bubble, rides a wave for rapid movement, and makes water doubles that collapse harmlessly when struck. (Chapters 1826–1829, 2137, and 2228)
Her defence has measurable limits. A water bubble blocks one of Pine's blows but breaks under the next, and Yongbu's vortex eventually bursts a similar barrier and injures her. Water can also be absorbed and redirected by Pine; celestial energy makes that process painful and incomplete, but does not prevent it. (Chapters 2137 and 2228)
Celestial enhancement
Quinn invests 1,300 celestial points in Wince when making her a dedicated follower. The energy reinforces her body, lets her survive hits that would otherwise finish her, and mixes into water attacks so that Pine cannot absorb them as easily as ordinary abilities or Qi. It does not make her a celestial, and prolonged clashes with Yongbu drain her until she can no longer advance. (Chapters 1865–1866, 2137, 2158, and 2228)
Wince's mark connects her power to Quinn's celestial energy, but the corpus does not assign her an independent condition or show her generating celestial points. Her latest demonstrated progression comes from continuous training: she kills a demon-tier beast, builds a replacement trident from it, and coordinates royal water techniques with the weapon. (Chapters 2137 and 2228–2245)
Trident combat and command
Wince uses tridents to focus water through three points, throw celestial-charged thrusts, and create or anchor defensive bubbles. The first royal trident belonged to her father and is later given to Sil; the weapon she carries as queen is a separate trident made after her demon-tier hunt. H's killing counter demonstrates the risk of committing the weapon at range against an opponent fast and strong enough to seize it. (Chapters 1831–1841, 1865, 2124, 2137, and 2245)
As alliance commander, Wince prepares forces, evacuation space, disguise equipment, and a concealed assault ship. Her planning cannot overcome the enemies' raw strength without other leaders, but it allows three species to coordinate and keeps the rescue of Sil possible while the armies hold the ground campaign. (Chapters 2202–2209 and 2241)
Relationships
- Ceril: Ceril is Wince's sister and closest royal ally. Their relationship survives Ceril's involvement with the Predators and long separation; reunited, they fight together until H kills Wince and then Ceril moments later. (Chapters 1816–1841, 1866, 2124, and 2245–2262)
- Quinn: Wince first sees Quinn as a possible rescuer, then accepts him as the god whose intervention restored her people. Quinn makes her a dedicated follower, while Wince gives his family refuge and commits her alliance to opposing Earth's expansion. (Chapters 1816–1867 and 2124–2202)
- Galen: Wince carries Galen out of Yongbu's immediate reach and holds him through later attacks and stopped time. Galen's touch returns enough energy for her to move, but the corpus does not define it as complete healing. (Chapters 2137–2158)
- Yongbu: Wince accepts Yongbu as a protector after reclaiming the throne but later attacks him when he threatens the Talen family. The conflict makes clear that her borrowed celestial power does not place her on a god's level. (Chapters 1840–1866 and 2135–2143)
- Yanny: Wince sees Yanny as the usurper responsible for her family's ruin. After defeating his faction, she suppresses her desire to execute him because his cooperation with Yongbu can help stabilise the Mermerials. (Chapters 1831–1841 and 1865)
