Robin
Robin Graylash is a Graylash head general who teaches academy students to use abilities creatively before joining a Demon-tier beast expedition. The beast takes control of him and amplifies his lightning, forcing Quinn to kill a man he had respected. Robin's later importance survives through the Graylash family and Quinn's gratitude toward Lucia. (Chapters 969–1093 and 1589–1712)
Biography
Teaching adaptability
Robin appears as a guest elemental instructor who uses rings, trails, and controlled sparks to demonstrate that an ability's textbook application is only a starting point. He briefly paralyses students with low voltage and tests Sil, who copies the lightning ability during their exchange. Robin ultimately forfeits rather than escalating the contest, and he is frank that he does not understand Quinn's shadow power well enough to promise a conventional counter. His teaching therefore rests on experimentation without pretending certainty. (Chapters 969–972)
The Demon-tier expedition and loss of control
On the beast expedition Robin helps lead the Graylash contingent, maintains discipline when allies threaten one another, and supports the sheltering of weaker participants. He fights beside Sil and others against the Demi-god-tier moth, then volunteers Graylash forces to protect the site while the stronger Demon-tier objective remains unresolved. That protective assignment brings him within reach of the tree-like beast's marking power. (Chapters 1046–1059)
Robin is later found with red branch-like marks and no longer acts by his own will. The beast-enhanced lightning around his body stops gunfire and turns him against the expedition, leaving Quinn to kill him to protect the others. His body is recovered in a coffin, and Owen later remembers him as a good person. Quinn's assistance to Lucia, Robin's descendant, is partly repayment for that loss; the later family connection reframes Robin's brief alliance as a debt carried across generations. (Chapters 1061–1093 and 1589–1712)
Appearance and personality
Robin is a young-looking man who wears the Graylash family's white clothing. He is confident in a powerful inherited tradition but willing to acknowledge uncertainty, and as a commander he combines discipline with responsibility for people under his protection. His final hostility is explicitly the result of beast control and must not be treated as a betrayal or voluntary change of allegiance. (Chapters 969–972 and 1046–1067)
Powers and abilities
Graylash lightning ability
Robin controls lightning with enough precision to form persistent rings and trails, deliver paralysing low-voltage shocks, fire directed bolts, and accelerate his own movement. These variations are presented as products of creative control rather than distinct abilities. Earth is identified in the academy discussion as a conventional elemental counter, while shadow remains outside Robin's knowledge; the corpus does not establish that either is an absolute defence against his strongest output. (Chapters 969–972)
Under the Demon-tier tree's control, Robin's lightning encases his body and stops bullets before impact. The amplification makes him more dangerous but is not a voluntary progression or a latest state he mastered: the same mark overrides his agency, and Quinn kills him during the encounter. No recovery from the control or later use by Robin is shown. (Chapters 1061–1067)
Relationships
- Owen: Robin serves the Graylash family Owen leads. Owen's later description of him as a good person preserves the distinction between Robin's character and his controlled final actions. (Chapters 1046–1067 and 1093)
- Sil: Robin tests Sil at the academy and later fights beside him on the beast expedition. Sil's copied lightning illustrates Robin's ability without transferring Robin's identity or allegiance. (Chapters 969–972 and 1046–1059)
- Quinn: Robin greets and works with Quinn before control makes them enemies. Quinn is forced to kill him and later helps Lucia partly because of what happened to her ancestor. (Chapters 970–972, 1061–1067, and 1589–1712)
- Lucia: Lucia is Robin's later descendant. They do not interact directly in the supplied corpus, but her lineage preserves his significance to Quinn and the Graylash family. (Chapters 1589–1712)
