Helen
Helen is the leader of Daisy, an elite all-female faction that joins the Cursed faction. An ambitious commander and plant-ability user, she becomes one of the people responsible for coordinating the enlarged faction before sacrificing her chance to escape so that others can survive Graham's assault. (Chapters 688, 948, and 1396–1400)
Biography
Daisy's leader and the faction contests
Helen first appears when the Parasites call Daisy to referee their dispute with the Cursed faction. Daisy ranks immediately below the Big Four, and Helen attends personally because intelligence about the Cursed faction's defence of the Crow planet has made her curious. She honours her obligation to Mantis without treating his side as an automatic favourite: she observes the competitors, starts the matches, and approaches the contest as a chance to assess powers and equipment that might affect Daisy's own expansion. (Chapters 688–691)
At the later multi-faction duel, Helen is similarly pragmatic. She knowingly sends a weaker Daisy team against Pure so that they can expose what Pure is hiding, while saving the team she expects to win for the decisive fights. Her rivalry with Layla becomes personal when they fight, but Helen later acknowledges Layla as an exceptional opponent with the potential to surpass her. The contest also brings Helen closer to Quinn, whose ambition and concern for others challenge her more self-interested idea of leadership. (Chapters 744–752, 777, and 1535)
Coordinating the Cursed faction
After Daisy comes under the Cursed name, Sam publicly credits Helen with coordinating the member factions' resources and assistance. Helen does more than supply troops: she advises Quinn on what younger students need to see from a leader, correctly connects the mysterious “V” combatants to vampires, and gives him a complete legendary-tier armour set made from Blue Arctic Wolf crystals. Her work places her between independent faction commander and coalition organiser, trusted with Daisy's people while supporting a much larger structure. (Chapters 948–958, 1050, and 1110)
Helen also develops romantic feelings for Quinn, although he does not return them in the same way while she is alive. She kisses him and later admits that learning he was a vampire made her briefly question whether her attraction had been manipulated. Rather than withdraw Daisy or punish his choice, she remains committed to the faction and eventually concludes that his unselfish ambition was what drew her to him. That recognition matters to her final choices: she tries to become the kind of leader she believes he would respect, even when doing so costs her personally. (Chapters 1068–1070 and 1400)
The defence of Daisy and her death
When the Dalki attack Daisy from two directions, Helen keeps the faction's strongest fighters at the outer front while Cursed reinforcements protect the shelter. Graham's unexpected arrival as a five-spike Dalki breaks that plan. Helen returns to the shelter, combines her plants with Layla, Sil, and Nate, and helps create both restraint and cover for their strongest counterattack. When Graham survives and begins transforming, she orders the others to leave, draws the shelter's vines and planted growth toward herself, and invokes the favour Layla owes her to prevent Layla from staying behind. (Chapters 1396–1398)
That stand buys time for evacuees, but it does not defeat Graham. The Dalki capture Helen, repeatedly drain her blood, and use her as the subject of plant-related experiments until Quinn finds her dead. Her sisters Ivy and Peach ask Quinn to give her a proper farewell and avenge her. A recording Helen prepared for her own death tells Quinn to continue building a better world and to love someone else instead of remaining bound to her memory, converting her private regret into a final attempt to protect his future. (Chapters 1399–1400)
Jim's later research uses preserved material associated with Helen to produce a powerful Dalki hybrid. That “Dalki Helen” has her appearance and a stronger version of her combat potential, but it is a manufactured being rather than Helen surviving or returning; the original Helen remains dead. By the final gathering, Quinn still counts her among the people he lost and believes her spirit was present during the farewell made possible by Immortui, although he did not directly see her. (Chapters 1533–1540, 2114, and 2543)
Appearance and personality
Helen is introduced with bright pink hair, long legs, and tightly fitted, brightly coloured beast gear. Her visual confidence matches her public role: she is direct, competitive, attentive to political information, and accustomed to being the most conspicuous person in a room. (Chapter 688)
Her early calculations can appear self-serving, but her loyalty to her sisters and faction is genuine. She gathers intelligence before committing, accepts a tactical loss to learn an opponent's strength, and can admit when another fighter impresses her. Her last defence of Daisy shows the development behind those qualities: she still calculates the available outcome, but uses that judgment to send others to safety and accepts the fatal position herself. (Chapters 744, 948, 1396–1400, and 1535)
Powers and abilities
Plant ability
Helen can rapidly grow plants from seeds and control established vegetation. In battle she sprouts growth around an enemy, produces plants that fire explosive spikes, and moves vines or other vegetation planted across a settlement toward her position. These applications let her attack, restrict space, and create a smokescreen for allies rather than relying only on direct impact. (Chapters 1397–1398)
The ability is not unlimited or inherently strong enough to defeat top-tier Dalki. Graham remains uninjured by her explosive volleys, and stones he throws cause individual plants to wither on contact. Her final plan draws on vegetation prepared throughout the shelter, showing that battlefield preparation expands what she can command; the corpus does not establish the plan's precise mechanism or whether it damaged Graham before her capture. (Chapters 1397–1399)
Leadership and combat judgment
Helen is an experienced faction commander who evaluates equipment, conceals her strongest team until it is needed, and uses weaker matches to collect information. She coordinates resources among Cursed subfactions and directs both battlefield positions and civilian evacuation under pressure. Her armour and physical conditioning let her fight personally, but the corpus does not identify a soul weapon or give exact physical statistics for her. (Chapters 688–691, 744, 948, and 1396–1398)
Relationships
- Quinn: Helen is drawn to Quinn's unselfish ambition and supports the faction he builds. Her feelings are not fully reciprocated during her life, but her final message asks him to continue that work without being trapped by regret.
- Layla: Their rivalry begins in a faction duel and develops into mutual respect. Helen ultimately entrusts Layla with surviving, leaving with the others, and making Quinn happy.
- Sam: Sam relies on Helen to coordinate Daisy and the other groups under the Cursed faction, and later blames himself for not sending enough support to save her.
- Graham: Graham overpowers Helen's group, captures her after her rear-guard action, and is responsible for the treatment that kills her.
- Peach and Ivy: Helen's sisters fight with Daisy and mourn her death. They preserve her last message and ask Quinn to avenge her.
Items
No manifest-configured inventory item is assigned to Helen. The legendary Blue Arctic Wolf armour set associated with her is a gift she gives Quinn rather than equipment retained in her own inventory. (Chapters 1050 and 2256)
