Dennis

Dennis is the leader of the Eagles faction whose protective instincts survive the destruction of his organisation, poisoning, and an unwanted transformation into a vampire. He loses the eagle ability that defined his original fighting style but learns Quinn's shadow power and eventually recreates flight with shadow wings. The corpus does not narrate his later death; by Quinn's confrontation with the dead, Dennis appears among the deceased Cursed allies who still choose to defend him. Biography

The Eagles and the Sunshield attack

Dennis first appears as the leader of the Eagles, a medium-sized faction built around his aerial transformation and responsibility for its members. His eagle form gives him the strength and mobility to contest other faction fighters, but a Graylash opponent's lightning can paralyse a wing and force him into a losing exchange. Quinn's intervention helps him survive, creating a debt Dennis takes seriously rather than treating as a temporary convenience. (Chapters 579–582)

That loyalty is tested when the Sunshields attack. Dennis orders civilians evacuated, spreads his wings to shield people from incoming attacks, and stays behind with the fighters covering their retreat. The Eagles' base is destroyed despite his defence. Instead of trying to preserve his title over a shattered organisation, Dennis joins the coalition that becomes the Cursed faction, carrying both responsibility for the survivors and anger at the people who destroyed their home. As the new alliance fights to establish itself, Dennis works beside Blip, Linda, Nate, and the other faction leaders. His squads suffer heavy losses and cannot win every engagement, but he remains willing to reinforce people who were recently rivals. The experience begins shifting him from the head of a single faction into one of several commanders whose strength depends on coordination. (Chapters 603–608 and 669)

Loyalty, poison, and an unwanted turning

Dennis's loyalty can become impulsive. After a Cursed member is struck during the dispute with the Parasites, he retaliates immediately and nearly widens the incident into a faction war. He recognises afterward that the destruction of the Eagles has made him quicker to see every attack as the start of another massacre, but understanding the pressure does not prevent him from entering the next fight. (Chapters 669–689)

Mantis poisons Dennis during that conflict. The toxin disrupts Dennis's control over his ability and sends him into a violent state, forcing his allies to restrain him. Paul's counter-poison offers only an uncertain temporary answer, and Dennis remains in danger after the immediate battle. His strongest weapon has become part of the threat because the poison turns transformation and aggression against the people he wants to protect. (Chapters 689–697)

Dennis later suffers mortal injuries alongside Nate during the operation against Hilston. Paul and Sam use a blood ritual to preserve them, converting Dennis into a regular vampire without having obtained his prior consent. Dennis survives, but vampire physiology is incompatible with his original eagle power; he loses the wings and transformation that had defined his identity. A shadow fighter of the Cursed faction

Quinn responds to the transformed fighters' lost abilities by teaching them shadow power through the Cursed family connection. Dennis must rebuild from a very different foundation. He learns to cloak himself, form barriers and movement spaces, and combine shadow with the strength and senses of a regular vampire. His progress is practical rather than effortless: his reserves and precision remain below Quinn's, and some techniques work only on a small number of people. (Chapters 814–828, 1257, 1434, and 1505)

The most personal application comes when Dennis and the other shadow users combine their power into wings. The technique lets him fly again without restoring his original ability. During battle he activates a golden-aura soul weapon and dives on a Dalki, transforming the flight he lost into a coordinated shadow attack. The moment marks adaptation rather than reversal: Dennis remains a vampire and the wings are constructed shadow, not the biological eagle form taken from him. (Chapter 1022)

Dennis becomes one of the Cursed faction's recognised leaders and uses his new skill set in increasingly specialised support roles. He hides a teleporter beneath Shadow Cloak on Blade Island, scouts beside Borden, and employs Shadow Travel despite its cramped carrying capacity. Contact and the effort of handling another body can expose his cloak, so stealth missions demand restraint as well as courage. (Chapters 1028, 1257, 1434, and 1505)

He remains active through the final Dalki operations, supporting fighters whose individual power often exceeds his. Unlike Nate, Dennis is not shown dying in that war. A later observation that his vampire subclass may not be immortal leaves his long-term lifespan uncertain rather than confirming an immediate fate. (Chapters 1530–1565 and 1580)

An unresolved death and the demon plane

The story next places Dennis among deceased allies connected to Quinn during the conflict in Immortui's realm. He stands with members of the old Cursed faction who defend Quinn, and the manifestations continue fighting with help from Arthur. Their presence represents dead companions rather than a return to mortal life. (Chapters 2476–2481)

The corpus never supplies a chapter showing Dennis's physical death, its cause, or the age he reached after the Dalki war. It establishes only that he survived the war-era scenes in which he last appears alive and was dead by the demon-plane encounter. Powers and abilities

Eagle transformation

As a human, Dennis can transform into an eagle-like combat form with huge wings, claws, increased strength, and a powerful grip. The wings provide true flight and can spread into a shield large enough to cover other people. He uses the form for aerial attacks, evacuation cover, and direct grappling. (Chapters 579–591)

The transformation is vulnerable to attacks that disrupt the wings: Graylash lightning paralyses one and removes Dennis's aerial advantage. Poison later interferes with his control and turns the ability dangerous to allies. Finally, conversion into a vampire makes the power unusable altogether, so none of Dennis's later flight should be attributed to the inherited eagle ability. (Chapters 581–582, 689–697, and 813–816)

Vampire physiology

The blood ritual heals Dennis's otherwise fatal condition and converts him into a regular vampire. He gains the enhanced physical condition and senses of that class and must live with its blood-related needs and restrictions. His exact later vampire rank is not stated, and the narrative explicitly questions whether his subclass shares the indefinite lifespan of stronger vampire types. (Chapters 799–816 and 1580)

Shadow power

As a member of Quinn's Cursed family, Dennis learns shadow after losing his original gift. He can cloak himself or equipment, form defensive and movement spaces, and contribute power to collaborative constructs. With Sam and Nate he shapes shadow into functional wings, allowing Dennis to fly and attack from above again. This application requires combined shadow and does not recreate his former claws or innate transformation. (Chapters 814–828, 1022, and 1257)

Dennis's mastery has practical limits. His Shadow Travel space can carry only a few people, Shadow Cloak leaves a slight outline to a careful observer, and grabbing or carrying a target during infiltration can break concealment. Dennis possesses a soul weapon that produces a golden aura when he activates it during his shadow-wing dive against a Dalki. Earlier battle rules acknowledge soul weapons as part of the fighters' arsenals, but the corpus does not clearly explain Dennis's weapon's origin, independent shape, or full mechanics.
